POLE – ELITE – COMBO: This requires a strong handstand off the pole and flexibility in the hips and thighs. The thumb is down in true grip. More balance and strength is needed for this variation than in the twisted grip handstand.

  1. Veena, I can do the single arm handstand coming down from inverted crucifix, however when I try to do it the way you explain in your lesson my lower body starts falling into the pole as soon as I lift my standing leg. What muscle groups do I need to strengthen? Is it the core that does the lifting of the leg?

  2. You need to have the hand placed on the pole at the right angle to allow for stability with that arm. It feel much different than a handstand in front of the pole

  3. worked on this today and OMG it’s harder than one would think! and kinda scary too! so after a cpl frustrating fails, 1st of all I was like “ok I’m tired but seriously? can my arms just not hood me in a handstand anymore? this is crazy!” so dialed it way back to check on that: yup, can still handstand into pole, even almost deadlift, so that’s not the problem… 2nd: figured it must be 1-armed-ness of this being the problem, so kicked up the handstand a notch (again, still back against pole, 1 leg helping to balance, and… yup still got that too… tried again and STILL no luck getting this. ok then when all else fails with a lift to an inverted position, then try descending: bingo! from a Gemini was able to get outside hand placed on floor, and sort of finish it all from there… now I’m getting REALLY tired and feeling it more and more everywhere, but I’m nothing if not determined, so still unsatisfied w/just lowering into this, try AGAIN (yes I love the abuse)… realize I’m juat good old fashioned chicken, so I need a spotter (mat won’t work, bc need hard floor under me), but no one around so pulled up a couch close enough to pole to sandwich me in aND “catch” me of I need, or even just to lean against… KINDA helped, tho it was a bit in the way, but it was all I needed to conquer that fear factor… ok a few more attempts, and… OMG FINALLY. So I guess moral of this insane story is, (a) wow Veena, cool move! and extra kudos for making it look so do-able and smooth and ez, when it’s anything but! (b) that said, it IS do-able! esp for some of u younger and stronger and more lithe (& hopefully more rested!) young’uns out there… (c) a spotter is a good thing… (d) no need to be as crazy as me and insist on getting this in a single 1/2 hour setting… just take ur time BUT, don’t give up! ever!!! like always in pole… ever… love every nutty and glorious and frustrating and hilarious step of the journey! enjoy!

  4. Hi Veena, I did a move like this but in reverse at my lesson today but I don’t know what it was called!
So you start with one hand on the pole and one on the floor with your head upside down and then you spring up using the inside leg for momentum but your outside knee pit catches the pole- any ideas?!’
It’s really annoying me what it’s called so if you could help I’d be so grateful!
