Wendy was probably my very first pole crush and still is to this day. As a business woman, pioneer of pole and the gorgeous dancer she is…she is everything I aspire to be!

Other than that I don’t really follow anyone.

    ALSO…..

From the stand point of teaching this to women (haven’t had the pleasure of training poledancefan yet!) part of the reason we like it is because it’s a little naughty. It’s fun and yes athletic…but it’s sexy and makes us feel sexy (over time) Many of us say we want the tricks but after we get a few, how many of us want to dance better to make those tricks look better?

Everyday we as women are told to buy this product or that product to look or feel our best. Well, let’s face it – we all want to look great, be in shape and we do everything we can to LOOK sexy and beautiful but how many of us FEEL sexy and beautiful. Doesn’t pole dance makes us feel graceful, fluid and beautiful over the time that we out into it?

I’d hate to see some of the beauty, not just sexiness, but beauty go away. It already seems like no one wants to watch basics anymore and it’s already leaning towards all power moves.

On another forum it was mentioned that pole may suit something like the X Games a little more.

Hey that was ME!!! YAY! LOL!

I am only FOR the Olympics because I think conservatives would back off but onthe whole I don’t want to see it become standardized and something taken from our hands made so far out of our reach. None of us would be able to perform or compete – that’s kind of harsh to US if you ask me.

I like the idea of adding pole to something like the X games because pole can stay as diversified as it is and still be appreciated by a mainstream audience thus gaining it’s own recognition for all it’s aspects. My 2 cents.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean. Can you reference the move in a video?

Roxy, ETED’s certs DO teach you the business end of pole too…and Mary Ellyn is always a PM away for help too. I haven’t even taken her certs yet and she has helped me immensly with a lot of things.

I didn’t realize there might be a lot of people out there that want to start up their own business that may not know the business end of things – especially the marketing. That gets me thinking.

I would start by incorporating splits into your floor work – this will be much easier on your body because you’ll be able to control getting into them.

The first "trick" could be some thing like from standing on the ground lift your leg up and slowly, press it up against the pole in a split. You could also use a split as a dismount from a handstand too – provided you can do handstands and fee stable enough. Lastly a move that most of my super flexy beginners can do and love it holding onto the pole and slowly sliding down into splits next to it. Be sure you have a good grip though – you don’t want to slide too fast!

Congrats on your new found splits! how long did it take you?

Cream – there is also a pole jam in Madison Heights on Friday March 5th if you are interested. I used to work in AA so it’s about 45 mins or so. We would love to have you!

Next time I see you I want to show how I get into Superman. Instead if going into it from gemini – extend those legs out in a V split then you can adjust your top leg and flip over. It’s much less painful.

You are a gorgeous dancer! I love watching you dance. I think we ebb and flow with our poling and maybe you are in a learning phase right now where you are desiring to learn more – you’ve perfect everything you have up to this point – just don’t forget how awesome you are!

Def have her check out NYPD because Wendy is about the best teacher I have ever encountered! She is SAFE, knowledable and will not progress you too fast. Plus her climb and spin classes are also a very good work out, Check out her intro!

I’m really guilty of using this mount – infact I am trying to get my lift back. The main reason I use it is because it’s much more stable than the regular hs mount, also as far as I can tell the TG mount is the best if not the only way to hs upthe pole which is my goal.

The tg is not for those who can’t do basic hs and cartwheel mounts, it’s not for those with problematic joints, it’s not for those who have wrist issues, neck or back trouble, shoulder trouble or weak abdominals.

*if you are pregnant or nursing check with a doctor to see if the tg hs is right for you* lol!

I am in the same boat. I have not heard great things about the bottom loaders and I asked a PS rep if they still had old school poles and she doesn’t think they do.

PS Skinny’s are also about 2-3 weeks on shipping which i assume means they are back ordered slightly. I’m ordering a pole tomorrow and I am so torn. I get a great discount through X pole because I sell them, but I also think SS is harder to train on so will be a better investment.

i would say you at are at an intermediate level. You have a lot of moves down. This is in my opinion the largest category of moves thus meaning we stay there the longest. I was an intermediate for like a year and a half.

It’s tough because the next set of moves require so much core and arm strength and felxibility (to a degree.)

You really want to make sure you are learning mounts like the shoulder mount from someone qualified, not you tube. Not everyone uses the best mechanics on this and some people find their shoulders are too tight to do it right away which means you’ll need to loosend up and condition your body to do it before you start prepping for it.

Another mistake many make – myself included is jumping into the shoulder mount rather than sitting in front of the pole and practicing from the ground. We know that this is the best and safest method.

I understand not being able to afford lessons but what about a DVD? You can get the Vertical Dane DVD’s for about $40 for both of them.

Well, off the top of my head I can’t think of moves that can’t be done on spin mode but spin mode takes a lot more strength than static.

One handed spins on a 2” pole are fairly difficult because the diameter is so large – so if you have small hands you’ll really have to improve your grip – same goes for sweaty hands. They CAN BE done, but it takes slowing your spins way down and exercising your hands/fingers/wrists and forearms.

    Take spin mode easy.

Hi Penny, those are a lot of questions…so let’s start here

Your LM pole is 50mm. So you would want a 2” diameter pole or 50mm to keep with the same grip, for smaller you will want 45mm or 1.75” (they make 38mm but I have no idea where you would get them here in tge USA.)

Because you have a powder coated pole, you will most likely find chrome or stainless steel slippery for awhile titanium or brass would be closer to what you are currently using.

X-pole makes only chrome and titanium (similar to brass in color and feel) but they do not have a vaulted ceiling adapter.

Platinum Stages sells Stainless Steel (comparable with chrome) and brass – real, true brass and these poles can be either multi piece or one piece and platinum stages does have a vaulted ceiling adapter as well as all of their poles are no bottom loading (easier for you to put up.)

LM does make Vaulted ceiling adapters as well but I would not recommend an LM Stainless Steel – their stainless steel is mega slippery. So if you choose stainless steel Platinum Stages makes a great stainless pole.

I hope all of that helps https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Good luck!

Do you have insurance yet? I am not sure the laws in Australia – you might want to talk to someone in law enforcement. I could only give you an idea of US law and our waivers don’t mean as much as they should.

Old School PS poles do not come with an adjuster cover – which at first I was disappointed about, but I never used my cover on my X – it’s just for looks – so never mind.

I don’t think PS sells the old school poles anymore (which from what I hear are much better than the new bottom loaders.)

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif If you are new to the butterfly – it’s much easier to begin practicing from the gemini. Once you get a really firm grasp on the move – it will be much easier to do out of a caterpillar. Doing it out of a caterpillar requires you to hold yourself up and out for a second while you get your grip – so it takes more strength.

Can you do the butterfly from any other moves? Like Gemini?

USPDF uses 1.75 skinny PS SS Poles.

Different competitions use different poles. I would suggest for those training for comps – work and train on the most difficult finish for you. USPDF hopefuls may also want to consider working with a skinny PS pole because from what I hear the smaller diameter greatly changes your leg grips.

I can do the Sitting Doom and the Straight Doom..

The only other dancer I have ever seen do this is Alena Downs…she has the sitting doom in one of her videos…but I was actually able to catch her doing the Straight Doom on a 22′ pole! It WAS SOOOO COOL!! She just let go of her ankles and dropped like a rocket!! She stopped inches away from the floor! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Saks4JkZXZ8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 2:40 ish she does the sitting doom as a slide.

This was the first ever drop that I learned to do. I learned it off this exact video. Alena is the only one I have ever seen do this. I would love to see the straight version! The woman is incredible.

I was amazed at how easy the Jasmine Drop really is. I find it hard to play with this one at home though. It almost started looking like a mistake as we kept rewinding and watching, lol! But I think both Jen and I got it the night we saw the vid https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    Okay…I use it all.

PS Stainless Steel is a matte finish vs Lil Mynx poles which are mirror finish. When dealing with Stainless Steel matte is grippy and mirror is not.

After being on Chrome for about 8 months I found it hard to go back to Stainless Steel full time (even though I occasionally use the SS pole at the studio.) Not impossible though. I turned my heat up and bit, got myself and the pole warm and we had a good time. I found the Chrome to be too grippy sometimes for me – especially in the summer time.

I have sweaty hands – so while my body sticks to brass very well, I still have to deal with my grip issues – so brass isn’t a total cure all.

Titanium – doesn’t really compare to brass for me. I still feel like titanium is slippery. For me, not worth it for the extra cost.

Another thing to remember is that the USPDF uses 1.75 PS Stainless Steel poles. Chrome has more grip than Stainless – so if you are training for competition – go Stainless Steel. Even if you show up and they have brass – be surprised but be prepared.

As far as customer service on both ends I can’t say. I haven’t had bad luck with PS – but we’ll see when I tell them I need a new ceiling plate because my pole went through it. I know X-pole can be a pain, I know 2 people who had issues with their customer service. They did eventually recitfy the matters though.

wow do we really have to take dance class for it? i was hoping to try and learn things on my own and videos….. is that a bad idea? im so glad i got to know u a bit!! im about to order my pole…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif yay:) i hope i can do a few things:) i dont wanna quit on it!!! i really want to learn neat things Rubi!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif well i will go ahead and make sure i look at at the video and the pole "sit" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ur such a helper!!! hehe…. oh and i have another question Rubi… that 50MM pole… the height can be adjusted? to as how high low ur celing is?

There are self taught dancers around but honestly you will progress so much faster, safer and in the proper order of moves if you take classes. When you are alone you have nothing to go by as far as moves that should be learned, exercises to help build the strength so you can begin learning moves, prep work for moves, etc. Plus, you have no spotter when you get to intermediate levels. You want to make sure that you are warming up properly, gripping the pole properly, using the proper body mechanics, learning how to put the tricks together in a dance, getting a good cardio work out as well as strength training work out. There is sooo much to know that I think in the beginning if there is a studio near you – you should take a group class. After that practice the basics, go back for another class when you are ready to move on. Use DVD’s and Tutorials as supplemental education, don’t use youtube to learn off. Not everyone on youtube is using proper body mechanics or is doing tricks 100% properly and safely.
