Remember though, the more everyone talks about it like it's normal, the better it will be. Not talking about something makes it seem like that something is wrong. Show them videos or even this site! I still have family that doesn't approve of what I do but I'll keep on talkin! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I don't recommend the Twisted grip anyway. It works for some, but if it's not used with caution, you can really hurt yourself. The method for doing a handspring with a Twisted grip is not the same as the regular Handspring anyway. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Here are the Grips for The Handspring and Cartwheel…Handspring your kicking the feet forward and up Head goes back…the Cartwheel your Kicking behind and up head moves forward.

The wall stretch is pretty intense. You might want to try other stretches that will allow you to control the intensity a bit more. Lillybilly makes a great point. Check your form, it may just be a simple alignment issue. If you're taking the lessons here, the individual stretching lessons will cover proper alignment. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Do you have knee problems? What kinds of stretches are you doing that puts strain on the knee, there maybe other options. Is the pulling you feel during the middle splits possibly coming from the calves? Have you tried foam rolling before stretching?

If you can put the pole lower than 15 ft you might like that better. I’ve danced on tall poles and I prefer 10-12ft. Anything over that and it gets pretty bouncy, when you use it.

The girls are right, you don't need to loose weight before you buy a pole or start dancing! If you are interested, the lessons here are perfect for beginners. You do not need any dance, gymnastics or fitness background. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif We sell X-pole here, and I suggest the 45mm Chrome or Titanium for beginners.

I think you might be thinking of Tarakarina's videos. She use to pole in a garage and had a rug down. I've never had my pole in a garage. I would think putting a big rug down would be more comfortable than dancing on the concrete, so you could try that. Also check out this thread about making a pole dance floor!

Yeah, I steam my new poles right out of the box. I've done it both ways, in pieces or put together, I steam it several times when the pole is new. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Using a foam roller can work nicely in place of a machine…..my guess its it's cheaper too, and of course you can use it for other things as well!
I demonstrate how in this routine, I think it's near the end around min 19. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4e2d837d-6f9c-46f6-93df-22110ac37250

Many of the larger competition will have 45mm poles, they may also have one 45 and one 50. The smaller competitions held in studios will of course vary depending on the studio. Many older studios have 50mm poles. The 45mm is becoming the "standard" pole. If you have access to 50's and 45's that's great!!
