Yeah, I just posted my very first video (after being on SV practically since the beginning!) and I ran away from the computer because I was afraid. When I got back on to peek, I had gotten a lot of comments and responded to each one. I would hate to think that someone took the time to watch and comment, and think that I wouldn’t take the time to respond back to their kind words or encouragement! I do think that responding personally by sending an email is a good idea, but I would hate to invade someone’s personal cyberspace if they hadn’t invited me in, you know what I mean? I think Webmaster is working on something but it would take a huge amount of work for them. But it would be nice…

Might you be trying to squeeze the pole between your hamstring and your calf? That might be why your calf is sore. Try to relax that knee-hold just a little bit and see if that’s better. And of course, just like Roxy said, stretch!

Wow, London, CONGRATULATIONS! Don’t let those insecure, threatened, ungrounded, bitchy girls get you down! That’s so amazing that you won! I’m so impressed that you even went and entered. I don’t know what it is about our society that makes us so defensive about everything. It’s sad that those girls were so scared that you’d "take" money out of their pockets and had to bad-mouth you. Maybe if they knew you weren’t gunning for a job, they’d be a little more considerate, but at least here in Vegas, amateur nights are really tough because you get so much attitude from the girls who are working. So sorry about that part, but so happy for you for winning! Big hugs to you!

My sisters ended up getting me one for an early birthday present and it is truly easy and AWESOME! They got me the Ultra HD 8GB. It costs around $200 but I saw it a week later for $179.99 at Costco so look around for bargains. Since my husband is away monday-friday, I take videos of our son every day to send out (to him, to the grandparents, family & friends, etc). I have a Mac, so it’s super simple. So far, I haven’t put a pole vid out there yet, but when I do, I know it’ll be super easy. The only thing is there’s not a lot of panoramic view so you’ve got to film your dance from fairly far away. I’ve been experimenting with distance and have gotten a lot of dances on film where you might only see me from the waist down or even from the knee down! All in all, I LOVE this camcorder.

It is organized by Mariana Baum the répresentante of the WPDF in France…
Suzie Q will be in the jury and will make a show during the competition…
The weekend of September 19th and 20th, her will give a training course to pole dance paris, I am going to participate, I am too satisfied… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
It is a competition opened to the men, there will be 4 men and 10 women who are going to participate.
I think that a lot of people saw this website but I put the link :

    http://www.poledancecompetition.fr/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Doroty, I’m not sure about the competitors in France, but I think you’d be right up there competing for the top spot! In other words, I think you’re an amazing dancer!

I was going to order it, but now that I’ve read this, I think I’m going to wait! To be perfectly honest, I had emailed Shawn asking about her certification course a LONG time ago and she didn’t get back to me for 3 months or so. In the meantime, I had called up one of her affiliate studios and they told me that she had an injury, but that they’d find out for me and they’d call me back. Never heard back from that studio. I know that stuff happens, but if you’re in a business, it would be wise to at least return phone calls, even if you’re telling the customer that you don’t have any information!

Wow, Angel, thank you for being so absolutely candid. I teach at 2 studios, both of which are primarily Pilates studios and that is why they’re doing well. The group classes (all forms of exercise, from yoga to kickboxing, etc) are not doing so great–like Angel, I often see 2 or 3 signed up, but sometimes just 1. For this particular studio, the group ex is additional income for the owner. In the other studio, the group ex room is very new and so we’ll see how it goes. I can tell you for certain that when women come in to try pole class, they LOVE it. But it’s a total mystery as to who comes back and why. I keep expecting the women to be more like us–fall in love, get hooked, and view class as a necessity! I am so sad to hear that the Bombshell Ballroom closed!!!! Although I did not know her personally, I thought Starrgrrrl was phenomenally talented and her dancing was crazy charismatic–I loved her style so much. I was once told that if I wanted to open up a studio (be it yoga or something else), I’d have to have enough money to float the studio for at least 2 years (meaning, 0 profit). Nowadays, I’m going to guess that it would have to be longer. I don’t think you’re being negative, Angel, but pretty realistic. My opinion is that in this economy, you would probably be better off teaching all the classes without expecting a paycheck, and then when you’ve built up a business and a reputation, start hiring other quality instructors.

Yes, that was the exact advertisement I saw. I love the idea of a removable brass pole, though! PoleJunkies, I was hoping that you might have a personal comment to this new line or what you think is the difference between this pole and another. The ad certainly makes it seem awesome, but thought you might have personal experience with it since you are the Canadian PS representative (queen!), right?

Ooops, I was about to post that they sell them on her website, but now when I went to look it up, they no longer have them. Aren’t they just the cutest? I had seen them and wanted to get one a while back…shoulda just jumped on them when I had my chance! I have a skort from lululemon, but I was told that they don’t have those anymore, either. Tennis skirts come the closest, but I have found that the shorts part underneath are sometimes too long for poling (for me at least). I bet you can make one. Or maybe Veena could! Yay–hey Veena, let’s add to your studioveena line!

I LOVE the idea of building community within the class so that the students really look forward to not just taking pole class, but also to seeing the other girls. But I would never, ever allow a student to spot or teach another student unless she was a pole instructor that I knew personally and trusted. Just because you might be an amazing dancer, doesn’t mean you necessarily have the knowledge to spot another student. Hell, there are a lot of pole instructors out there who can teach moves, but really have no clue as to how to spot or cue the body–believe me, I’ve been to their classes! There are also liability issues there–if a student gets injured in class while another student is teacher them or spotting them, it’s still upon the teacher present and the studio itself.

$25 to $40 a class? All of the studios in philly pay at least $50 a class

Hell, I’m going to have to move to Philly!!!!
One of the studios where I teach only has 3 poles so we max out at 6. I can’t imagine teaching 20-28 girls! Wow!

I was wondering if anybody has had breast augmentation AFTER they got into poling. I wanted to know about the differences in before and after, in terms of strength, endurance, etc. I mean, there’s the obvious "hey, suddenly there are big ole knockers in my way!", but I wanted to hear about other experiences. I had also heard from a fitness instructor that she never fully regained her strength back after getting her boobs done (she didn’t really care, though, she was very happy with her procedure). Anybody have any stories?

Your story is really inspiring and I’m really glad you told it. It’s also nice to see women who are around my age pole dancing!
And yes, you should feel very proud of yourself!!!!

    Simulpole: Your husband is hilarious!
By the way, ladies, have you seen the picture in Glamour magazine that’s making all these headlines? There’s this beautiful woman sitting in a chair mostly naked (nothing showing, of course) but in a g-string and her sweet belly rolls hanging out? IT’S AMAZING! Turns out that she is this 20 year old plus size model (who is, like, size 12, and that is BELOW the average size of American women), and she’s totally unselfconscious about everything. It’s really an awesome photo.
