I really don’t think my hubs is jealous (we were already married when I was a dancer) that I posted it here, he seemed like he was genuinely excited when I told him that I had posted. I think it was more that he was embarassed (embarassed is probably not the right word to describe it, maybe disappointed is more accurate) that I wasn’t as good as the gal he watched and that I’m just not worth watching until I am.
Although that wasnt me you quoted, i just wanted to make clear what i mean by "jealous" in my previous reply to this post. I don’t mean jealous as in feeling angry or threatened by other guys seeing you, or worried about you doing it in public. I mean "jealous" in the sense that he’s away at work, and you’re home & get to play.. this type of jealousy can actually lead to a sort of competitive attitude, where a person wants to make the other feel that what their doing isn’t so great. And this in turn can actually make himself believe that it’s really not so great, and this eases his envious feelings.
I just honestly cant believe that he thinks you’re not worth watching- your video had many sexy elements in it, even if some of your moves weren’t exactly perfect. but whatever, like you & i & others said previously, doing it for yourself is what matters most. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

MemberSeptember 4, 2009 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Embarassed by Husband Finding my Practice Video 🙁Faerie-wench- i got so sad reading your post- it’s so discouraging to feel like something that you’ve worked so hard at & are so proud of is unappreciated, especially by the person that you want to share it with the most! And who wouldn’t want their guy to enjoy watching them & find them confident & sexy? I actually just watched your video, and i really think you’re doing great, and the last thing i would say is that you look insecure! Actually, you seem extremely confident in your dancing, & i give you major props for uploading an unedited video (and to all other women here who do the same)! It took me 9 months to get the courage to post an uncut video. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif
So i really can’t see why your husband would think that and have that attitude towards you about this… but then i thought about it (cos this type of issue seems to be so common & i get really frustrated by it!) & i agree with kobajo that some men just feel a little bit jealous or intimidated by their women pole dancing.
Plus your man is away in Iraq, and his woman is at home dancing with a pole & uploading videos. I wouldnt be surprised if actually he did watch your whole video, but because he feels abit intimidated, he wants to make it seem like its no big deal- sort-of like a defense mechanism to ease his own feelings about it. And like you said, you can’t know what kind of day he was having, being a marine surely isn’t a job that fosters a stable emotional state!
I’m not saying this just to make you feel better, i’m just trying to think : if i was a marine guy in Iraq, and my wife sends me a video of her poledancing all sexy (cos your dancing WAS sexy, regardless of the cute funny stuff), meanwhile i’m stuck at a base or smthg with a bunch of other men, taking orders, worried about war or whatever- I don’t know, but i think i’d be a little jealous, & so i’d try to persuade myself that its no big deal, thus acting indifferent to her about it, and maybe i’d come off a lil hostile too, not wanting it "to get to her head". Don’t know if that makes any sense, but i’m having a hard time explaining it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
Either way, i know it sucks, but please don’t let him affect how you feel about poling.. like you said, do it for yourself, and if he likes it, great, if not, OH WELL! all of us here like it, it’s obvious from your comments, and most importantly, YOU like it. But you never know, maybe when he gets back home & settles down he’ll have different reactions. I understand you not wanting to dance for him now, & you don’t have to, but i’d let him watch if he’s there & just be indifferent as to whether or not he likes it, since you’re doing it for YOU. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Oh geez , sorry this is so long, hope i wasn’t ranting on & on.. i just get so upset when we women get so negatively affected by men’s attitudes about something that we try so hard for, and want them to enjoy watching us do. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

i had a carpet under my pole till a few months ago & had no problem dancing on it, even in heels (i can’t do the splits, so no problem with that either, lol).. maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to it. Now i have tiles under my pole, and this hurt my feet and knees at first, but i got used to that now, and actually i slip & slide sometimes when i wear heels, especially with twirls/pirrouettes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I’d think that wood floor is best, but how would you be able to keep the peices in place if you dont do the whole floor? That plastic carpet protector thing might work- i dont know but you could try it and see! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif -

MemberAugust 10, 2009 at 3:10 am in reply to: Should the pole be centered on one joist or in between 2?Most houses in the US have joists that are further apart from eachother than they are in the UK, which means that the pole should be placed under only 1 joist. Otherwise, if the dome sits between 2 joists without being under them (cos they are far apart), then the pole may go through the ceiling.
Find out what type of ceiling you have, because if it is concrete, you wont find any joists and it’s safe to put your pole just about anywhere you want. If it’s plaster, then i think people have said that you’ll have a hard time finding the joists.. but i’m not too sure about that.. there was another post about this recently under the "poles" section i think, that may have more info. Good luck!

YAY i’m in chat too & soooo glad that some awesome girls came in on an otherwise very boring sunday night!
-
jeng- i’ve just recently started working on this myself, and have only done it a few times out of many attempts, so someone else will probably be able to help more than i can. Just wanted to tell you that my first attempts were just like yours- i felt like i didnt have the strength to even BEGIN pulling myself back towards the pole. But practicing it builds the strength that you need. You have to really reach back with the free hand, and it feels really really awkward when you do it! I have to strain alot to do it still, and i get pole burn on my thighs 100 times worse than i did with superman.. hopefully that will go away. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
-
LOL my "learning process 2" vid is full of clips where that happens to me. I just assumed that it was a strength and grip issue, since i kept practicing it untill finally i could let go of the bottom hand without going down anymore. Just keep practicing!!
-
welcome back! looking forward to your video! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
-
i just watched it (i’m tigiee on YT) & you were fantastic! love all your combos & you’re so strong!! good luck!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif

if you find out that your ceilings are concrete, then yogabeachbabe is right about being able to put it anywhere.. my ceiling is concrete, and i can put my pole anywhere no problem. i really hope that is the case for you too, or at least that you can find out the ceiling info like veena said.

i agree with georgiamarie.. that’s a great idea to try to get your mom to go to a pole-dance class with you! then if she changes her mind about it, that might help to persuade your father too. Or show him the more athletic-styled videos.. there are many on youtube as well. I’ve noticed that the majority of polers from the Netherlands are especially fitness-oriented. And of course once you get it, you can dance however you wish. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Just to be clear- as i’ve said in another post, i’m not for lying to parents or trying to persuade them that pole-dancing isn’t sexy (and this isnt considered lying anyway), but when it’s a matter of getting a pole or not, you gotta do whatever works!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif good luck & let us know what you do! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

omg! i hope you heal fast!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_elephant.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Glitter you’re so cute! That’s so sweet about your dad helping you so much with the pole, he sounds like really cool dad! i really enjoyed watching this newsletter, and by the end your chair spin looked fantastic, even though you’re not used to using static mode! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_albino.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

sorry to reply so late, but i hope you’ve already talked with x-pole, like foxy said! They’ll know what’s best.. usually they say it’s better to get a larger extension and use less pieces rather than using many smaller extensions. I got mine from the UK x-pole, so maybe they have different sizes than the US? i don’t know, mine was 50mm in length.
-
My ceiling is just a little over 9ft., and although my x-pole fit with all the pieces it came with, i had to unscrew the adjuster almost all the way out. I ended up buying the 50mm extension (although i had to remove one of the smaller extensions that it originally came with… and now it’s perfect, and the best thing is that i barely had to unscrew the adjuster at all, i omitted the cover cap completely, so i can use my pole all the way up to the ceiling!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I think Veena has said that she doesn’t sell extensions on the site, but you should double check with her. You can definitely buy them from x-pole’s site.. I got mine from somewhere elset for about 50$ (shipping included) brand new.. but can’t remember where since someone else ordered it for me. I think it may have been Craig’s list, but i can find out for sure if you want to know. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
