My teacher has both the old PS stage as well as the new Xpole stage and while I haven’t used the Xpole stage myself, she has said that it’s really, really heavy. But I guess that won’t help you until you lift it and try it on your own!

MemberNovember 16, 2009 at 1:29 am in reply to: pls help with an ‘exotic dancer’ questionHave you tried GoGo dancing? Lots of girls gogo in Vegas and they have a ton of fun, but ultimately don’t make a huge load of money. Most girls do it on the weekends in addition to whatever else they do during the week. There are even major GoGo dance contests here at Hard Rock, I think. I’m not sure what the girls make but in the upscale clubs, the girls are not allowed to accept tips. Or look for Burlesque troops. I think that SaschaPoles is in one. Let us know what you’re going to do!

What total crap! I can sum it up in one word: JEALOUSY.
OK, I know this sounds really rude but it has been my experience that many (NOT ALL) middle-aged (which I am), middle american, conservative women don’t respond well to beautiful, thin, sexy, empowered young women. Either it reminds them of who they had wanted to be when they were young, or it offends their moral fiber–whatever!
I would have paid you double that to be the chair you were grinding on.
Love ya.

Thank you PhillyPoleJess for posting those links! That definitely clarified a lot for me.

I just voted, too, and I’m going to every day. I’m really hoping you win!

Welcome to StudioVeena! You’ll love it here. This is a really friendly and unique site where everyone is totally awesome. Veena is also working on new lessons so even if the studio is too far away, you can always purchase her lessons to learn moves from basic to advanced. Keep us all posted!

Happy Birthday Sexy Mama!

Congratulations! That’s so awesome! Level 6 is a big accomplishment. That’s great that you and your class have gone through all those levels together! The performance sounds like a lot of fun.
I choreograph A LOT these days and find that the best way for me is to listen and listen to the music before even moving my body. Then I start picturing different moves in my head. Only then do I actually get up and try them out. Is the performance just for fun or is this an exam type event? I agree with Sissy about making sure your wrist is completely healed before whipping out those killer moves. Probably the best advice I had been given is to set up a routine just like playing pool: make sure you’re set up for the next trick/move. There’s nothing more disappointing than watch a great pole trickster perform amazing moves and then watch her bumble with transitions–you know what I mean? I don’t know the song you’re talking about but I think you’re already on the right track with the floor work and then the possible flying body spiral (such a WOW move!). Keep us posted on how you’re doing!

Oh Trena! What a wonderful anniversary to celebrate! Congratulations. You are such a key component to this site. Love you a ton!

I want SO MUCH to go, but it’s my son’s 4th birthday party on the 24th!
So I will be cheering Fleur on from a bit of a distance, but I’m there in spirit!
GO, FLEUR!!!!
(I have no doubt that she’ll do fabulously–she’s such an incredible dancer!) -
Wow, Velvet, that’s so exciting! Please take pictures of you and your new pole…I mean, exercise room!

I can’t find out who won! I had to leave before the competition ended. All I can say is that there were some incredible dancers there–wow. It’s was really inspiring and there were some really mind-blowing moves. I wish it was a more audience-friendly venue, though. I got general admission tickets and from where I stood, I couldn’t see ANY floorwork whatsoever. But I still can’t find out who was the winner! I can’t believe no one has posted it yet!

Coincidentally, I’m going to be in the LA area on the day of the California Pole Dance Championships! Are there still tickets left? Is anyone here going????

Another question: do I need to be able to do the caterpillar before moving on to some other moves? I must admit, as I have no strength, that I totally get stuck, head down, because my arms just won’t push me up lol!!!
Monkeystar, if you feel like your arms are not as strong as you would like them to be, try activating your hamstrings as well. I, too, was/am struggling with the caterpillar and was working with Fawnia one day and she said that because her hamstrings are strong, that’s what she uses mostly in the move. So instead of pushing up with your arms, think about engaging your legs to bring your bum to your heels. It really made a difference to me!

Caramel, the world seems like a colder place without your warmth and your sweetness. We will always miss you. Your time here was too short, in our opinion, but in that space you made a huge difference to many of us. You touched all of our lives and we will forever be changed by knowing you. Thank you for sharing yourself with us.

Just wanted to give a shout-out to Drkfaery. Thank you for going out of your way to get those SFactor shorts and for sending them out! You are really awesome. I mean, you went out of your way to do something for people that you don’t even technically know! And, as always, a shout out to Veena and Webmaster for bringing together THE BEST people in the world! I am so grateful to be in community with all of you!

I think that it doesn’t matter whichever leg you hang from–once you grab the pole and release your leg, you’ve got to get your body to the other side of the pole and then come up into an aerial chopper to come back into your leg hang. I’m not positive if this is what poletwista is talking about, though.

Happy Birthday honey!
I’m pretty positive you will achieve all the goals you set for yourself!
Have a great day and a wonderful time with Pink on Friday! -

I’ve never heard of anyone getting disqualified from the competition–or rather, if they did get disqualified, it was for bullsh*t reasons–not for being "professional". All the clubs here care about is if you bring lots of friends to watch and drink, and if their existing clientele like you or not. My friend entered an amateur comp and was probably the most advanced dancer there in terms of technique and tricks and actual dancing. Do you know who won? A girl who really looked the part and whose most advanced move was lying down propped up on her elbows performing "jelly legs" (basically you stick your legs straight up and wiggle them, clapping the sides of your shoes together every once in a while). I was totally outraged for my friend, but learned quickly that it has very little to do with talent in this town. So if you want to compete, go for it! Go have fun and screw the rest.

Oh Jalin–so sorry about your injury, but thank you for posted about it. Hopefully more newcomers will read this thread and listen more carefully to their bodies.
Hope you heal quickly!
