Raquelle, maybe take a step back for a second. NO ONE criticized your talent (which is the gist of what competition is about), NO ONE accused you of cheating, and NO ONE is trying to bash you or bring you down. I think we want everyone to succeed in their dreams and goals, as well as wanting the art/sport of Pole Dance to expand athletically and artistically. I think that Empy started this thread so we can all think for ourselves about what competition means. It was in no way directed as an attack on you. Another member asked questions about the rules regarding east coast/west coast and the length of the submission video. You told us very clearly that your vid camera/editing was broken. I think everyone knows that now and gets it. It was also brought up that there are no rules about which regional you can submit for. I, personally, am not such a fan of viewer voting, but I get the feeling that USPDF is trying this so that more regular people can feel like they’re more involved and kind of participating in the event, as well as exposing "friends" who may have never seen pole dancing at this level before. I, for one, am not able to attend either regional and I am never going to compete in either regional. Yet with the viewer voting, I do feel excited about it and I want to know more! I don’t think that anyone feels that you don’t deserve to be in the competition. I would hope that the fact that you are one of the three would boost your self-esteem. I know this is going to sound harsh, but: you might be the only one who feels like you aren’t good enough, and frankly, if you don’t feel good enough, even if you win the title of Miss USPDF 2010, it’s not going to prove it to you.

Nothing in particular seemed to cause an outbreak. All would be normal and suddenly I would feel enormous heat burning my veins. Hives would erupt and it looked like tribal sacrification. Unfortunately, people usually don’t find out what causes hives (not sure about rash). Benadryl helped initially & then wore off. One doctor finally prescribed Zantac, the heartburn medicine. I can’t remember why she said it worked but it was a miracle pill. I hope the relief is just as simple for you!

I was really stunned when I read this thread! My heart literally stopped when I read the post from Caramel. And then I saw that it was dated from last year. Wow. Well, first things first: CONGRATULATIONS Azriel! You are such a beautiful person inside and out, and to watch you grow and evolve as a dancer and now a teacher has truly been an honor. I’m always so blown away by your grace and your smile. You really set a standard of dancing and of determination to go for your dreams. You are such an inspiration to everyone! Second: thank you for keeping Caramel close to our hearts. Funny, I was just thinking about her the other day and how I wish I got to know her better. She will always be part of this wonderful, supportive and encouraging community. We don’t get to choose our family, but we definitely get to choose our friends. I’m so happy and grateful that we all chose each other!

I think MichelleH has a great point about choosing moves/transitions that you feel good about. In my personal opinion, in a competition or a performance, I think watching someone do a fantastic and smooth "easy" move and seeing them totally nail it, is a lot more exciting than watching someone struggle to pull off an "advanced" move because they think the judges might score them higher. On the other hand, I’m not quite sure what the criteria is for judging your competition–whether they score higher on showmanship and presentation, or difficulty of the tricks. Still, I love seeing someone just own the stage and own the moment. I was at the CA Pole Championship last year and my favorite dancer (who didn’t win, by the way) was a girl whose energy practically screamed out to the audience. Maybe she wasn’t as "smooth" as, say Felix, but she really made me cheer for her. Rock your routine and you’ll rock your audience!

You’ve got to post a link to it so we can all read it!
Really wonderful news. You truly deserve it! -
Wow, that’s such an annoying situation to be in! While the studio management or instructor MAY have some legitimate reason not to return emails or calls, I see it as extremely unprofessional–especially as they are in a business that deals with people! I mean, I’d think someone would have the decency to at least give you some sort of response that they’re extremely busy or have a personal emergency. Maybe make a last ditch effort and clearly explain that they’re potentially losing clients if the clients feel unheard and unimportant? As for your class, it sounds like you shouldn’t be taking it personally. I mean, it sounds like someone needs to override the computer system to allow you to take the more advanced class. I don’t think they’re trying to stop you from taking it, but rather that their office management stinks. Sorry you’re having a hard time.

Hi Sam! Welcome to StudioVeena. I’m sure you’ll love it here. Everyone is great and there’s so much information on the boards. I think there’s going to be a London pole jam coming up soon?

Sounds like figurehead. I’m not sure how to link it, so: if you go to http://www.wikipole.org and type in Figurehead in the search box, the image should display. Hope that’s it.

Fawnia is a really sweetie! I was very lucky to take some classes with her in Vegas and you’re absolutely right–she was always smiling and encouraging and made everyone feel spectacular. Thanks for the great interview!

I wish I’d lived in either to get nominated!!! Every time my husband flips past the show, he always comments how I need to be on it because I dress like such a slob. I’d kill for a good makeoever…sigh…
