You beat me to it Bebeduckie!! I was going to suggest taking a look! I personally don’t recommend EVER kicking into anything…unless you already know how to do it…but then again I am also biased as I like the way lifting looks vs kicking/jumping! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Once your strength builds up on spin mode you will be able to hold the pole like in the first picture. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I don’t think that there is a right or wrong way…but I find the first pic is much more controlling!

It’s so funny that you started this thread….my little boy asked me if I would walk on the ceiling for him….him and my husband both laughed when I did! The hardest part was not getting the "popcorn" ceiling pieces in my eye!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Hi and welcome to the forum!! I too am from the Carolina’s…but south that is!:)
I thought you were familiar. We’re friends on myspace. My user name on there is Descending Angels.
Hahaha! Your right…I looked at your pics and I’m like "she looks familiar"!! Glad you made it over here!!

The head to the side is a great tips…I also have to look at the floor when doing the lunchbox. How are you going into it? When I was first learning this I would do a handstand and then grab the pole behind me so that I was in a pencil…from there I would slowly allow one leg to go back and when I felt comfortable I would start letting the second leg go back…
you also have to have a good bit of flexibility and strength in both of your back and stomach…which I know you have! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Sometimes I still have to focus on "relaxing" my back to allow me to bend more in this move.
Can you post a vid? Maybe that would help us!!

Some call this move the gemini but some call it a scorpio…depends on where in the world you are. I find it easier to go by inside leg hang and outside leg hang. Yes it is VERY normal for it to hurt! That is one of the prices we pay to pole! Eventually once your skin "toughens" it won’t hurt anymore. Well done if you were doing this after only a week! Please be careful and not rush learning new moves as if you don’t have the strength yet you may get hurt! Hope you share your progress!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

YAY! Congrats on the new pole and welcome!!

Oh the joys of shoulder mount pain! This was probably one of the most painful moves for me to learn…it took the longest for my skin/bone to get accustomed to…even more so than the knee hold! The only thing to really get over it is to keep doing it…and lots of arnica cream!! Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

It also helps to think of turning your legs inwards so you aren’t just squeezing the pole you are wrapping your legs….I dunno if that makes sense….ahhhh! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

welcome! form is VERY important! there is a great thread on here "am I ready for inverts"…you should check it out!

sorry i over looked your question Kasanya!! sm is for shoulder mount and a sm prance is where you get into position as if you were going to do a sm but all you do is switch lift your legs…this really helps your abs and arms in preperation for the sm…hope this helps!
