Funny you should mention the size difference because after I read Dayanara’s post, I can remember in the studio, they had installed a "45". I tried it once or twice. Everybody claimed it was easier for learning but I didn’t care for it at all. It seemed really insubstantial–almost flimsy. I mean it was properly installed but it always felt like it could snap. I agree that it was a real killer on the inner thighs. I can totally believe that it might have been smaller than 45.

Sorry Eagle, didn’t mean to imply I had a negative reaction to the Aradia poles! I just liked the way I’d stick to Poledanzer poles better. The Aradia poles were great but I remember it taking a while for them to warm up whereas on the Poledanzer, I could do stuff immediately. But maybe it had to do with the air temperatures in the different studios more than the poles themselves. One thing that does stay in my mind is that the teacher that introduced me to Poledanzer poles always praised their understanding of the spinning mechanism so if that’s important to you, that might want to check it out.

One time in a ballet class, my slippers were feeling particularly slippery on the wood floor (usually not an issue on marley floors), so I tentatively trod into the rosin box on demi-pointe. Boy, was that a mistake! I came pretty close to twisting my knee and my ankle during the rest of the class. It was so sticky that my body went one way and my foot stayed exactly where it was. I’m pretty sure that if you were to use that kind of rosin on your hand, it would rip your skin off (and you’d probably see it stuck on the pole–ugh). I’ve heard of using rock climbing chalk for poling, but have never tried it myself. Maybe gymnasts use it for the parallel bars AFTER they’ve taped up their hands or use those hand guards???

I used to take classes at the Aradia in Vegas and liked their poles very much. But I don’t recall them having removable poles though. In my personal opinion, my skin likes the brass Poledanzer poles better. Each person’s body chemistry is different and will react differently on different metals depending on environmental factors as well as hormones. I know you’ve been debating what pole to get so I’ll throw in my 2 cents: if possible, go to as many studios and clubs that have poles as you can. Play around & see which kind your skin responds to. I’d love to hear the results!

If you go to the hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc) and get a studfinder, you should be able to find the joists easily. There are instructions included in the packaging of the device, but if you are unsure, just ask someone there for help.

This thread is so cute and interesting. I really love hearing everyone’s stories!

I used to be a Yoga instructor and I used to live on South Beach (FL). I think I had wanted Yogababe for an email account but it was already taken, so I inserted the "beach" part so it could be read as either Yogababe or Beachbabe. But really, my name is Sasha, which actually sounds more like an exotic dancer’s name than yogabeachbabe!

I know I’m not givin up! it’s just that my video was unique and different from all the other submissions I saw because I incorporated my ballet/lyrical dance training with my pole work and I have a different style that’s why I don’t get it. Not saying everyone elses were bad because they deffinitly were all awesome, but the styles were all similar and I though doing something different and unique would get noticed….they offered to critique in my rejetion letter so I asked them for it beause I really don’t understand what I did wrong, so I’m waiting for that!

Can you please post your submission video? I’d love to see pole dancing with ballet and lyrical components.
Also, sometimes it takes a while for things that are "different" to become accepted. Before Fleur won West Coast last year, almost all the girls wore shoes, and since her victory, I’ve definitely noticed a lot more girls dancing barefoot. It sounds like it would be very enlightening and an honor to received critique from the judges. I’m sure all your students love your style and so does the studio where you teach. I’m in such admiration of all those who had the courage to set a goal and actually go forth on their journey to reach it. Every single submitter deserves applause!

I just had the best mirror experience! I went to an architectural salvage warehouse and bought 6 sliding mirror doors (approx 6 feet tall) for…wait for it…$45!!!! I probably could have bargained them down to $40 or possibly less, but I didn’t want to be greedy about it. My husband said that the rollers (that slide in the closet tract) come right off. And because they’re built to be closet doors, they’re a touch more durable than freestanding mirrors. I’m so thrilled! So ladies, look to see if there are any salvage places in your area and you might save yourself a bundle!

I’ve never been to a Pole Jam before, but from what I understand, aren’t you all going there to have fun? It’s not a workshop or master class, right? I don’t think it matters what level you’re at, or if you’re rusty, or if you can or cannot do this trick or that one. It’s a great place for people to meet up who all love to pole. As for your classes, just because you don’t have access to your pole doesn’t mean your teaching skills rot. Mental imagery really does work and now you’ve got even more motivation to fine-tune your warm up on the floor and cooling down stretches, etc. You’ll ride this out and more than likely everything is going to be fine. You may be twisting your knickers into a knot when you don’t need to https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif . Keep repeating to yourself that everything is going to work out beautifully.

It also helps to press your legs out really long. Imagine you’re touching the far wall with your toes. The more extended your legs are, the more you’ll be able to push your hips to the sky. Post a pic!

That was amazing! Loved those splits and the move where you rolled down the silks was spectacular! It’s incredible how smooth and easy you made it look. Bravo!
