Have you seen a dr yet? Do you know for sure it was an injury or could it have been muscular soreness?

If it’s an injury don’t continue to dance, you’ll need to take time off, we use our core including low back to stabilize and do so much in pole! jsheridan, has good advice.

Often low back pain and injury comes from weak abdominals, and just weak core muscles in general. Improper body mechanics and technique can be a cause as well, so when you do get back to poling make sure to spend some times training the core and you’ll wanna be careful and be strict on form.

Taking a week off won’t put you back and won’t allow muscles to atrophy significantly.

People can let themselves be offended by anything. I think it’s all in the intention of the person, don’t over think it.

October 27, 2015 at 6:34 pm in reply to: The no-twisty club?

Many instructors don’t understand that the twisted grip can be harmful. Sometimes it’s immediate injury like if the student isn’t flexible or strong enough and they are kicking into this grip. Sometimes it’s injury that creeps up over time with heavy use.

I RARLY use it and ONLY if I’ve been poling consistently, my shoulders thank me for that! The rare time I use it I’m inverted or for single arm handstands and I’m transitioning to something else. It’s less taxing on the shoulder if you are closer to the pole and inverted. Reaching overhead while twisted or moving far away from the pole in some transitions using TG can be risky! Even when using regular ol split grip we need to be careful not to over do it and watch both the upper and lower shoulders!

    Oh that’s exciting!!!!!

My tips would be relax and enjoy yourself, no one will know if you did a spin where you had planned an invert so don’t stress over forgetting choreography! I usually just freestyle but anytime I’ve planned choreo, I listen to the music over and over while laying down and visualizing the routine. This video has tips for creating a routine. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/52f8463f-3884-4318-b2fd-2d1c0a9aa0eb

If you normally have sweaty hands they will probably sweat more so take some time to try grip aids that work for sweaty hands. Dirty girl is the only one I can think off right now so hopefully someone else will have a suggestion for that. DON’T use itac on the hands.

Polar, I can see if someone has used the FB link to share from their video, so when you share you’ll need to do it through the big blue button otherwise you won’t qualify. While I would LOVE to see everyone sharing publicly you still qualify if you share within a group.

Sharing one more, this one was challenging again due to costume also I was a bit heartbroken to edit the video with effects because I had been able to dance cleanly through with costume! BUT I did like how the effects finished my creative process. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4cc6fd72-7ab4-4e36-bd8e-5bed0ac37250

Yes, you can use a performance video 😊

  • P.S. I should add my comment was refering to high level comps that you see shared around FB and streamed online….not local.

  • It depends on the level you wish to compete at! Now days yes, most have contortion and gymnastics training, this wasn’t the case even a few years ago. I’ve never had any gymnastics or any formal dance training, so it is possible to reach goals of flexibility and high levels tricks without that background! However most high-level comps are full of highly trained athletes. I don’t want to discourage you but if competing is high on your list adding other types of training is a must!

If you haven’t read it my teacher training course offers some insight on levels, pro verses elite and so on. https://www.studioveena.com/methods/letter

Yes, I have a ton of info here! As a new pole dancer the best place to start is the 30 day take off program https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/50d407f6-6738-46d9-bca7-32260ac37250

If you don’t want to follow a program just start by watching the very first lesson here https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view_category/beginner-pole-lessons and it will explain how to use the lessons 😀

If you start at either of these points you’ll find info on how often to pole, tips for training flexibility and all kinds of stuff! Let me know if you have any other question.

Do you NEED to take it apart? I have on old xpole, that was this style and ended up just leaving 2 of the pieces together because they were stuck.

October 25, 2015 at 10:32 am in reply to: Recommendations for Building Strength?

HI! There are a LOT of great options for building strength here! I’ve got at least 9 full length strength routines you can do both with your pole and without. I’ve also recently added 20 new strength and conditioning lessons and none of them require equipment or even the pole.

If you do the 30 day take off program you’ll find it guides you thought building both strength and flexibility. There is also a Veena’s tips in the lessons that demonstrate 30 exercises for pole strength building (not pole needed) and a core strength Veena’s tips as well 30 exercises https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/530187f1-d550-48e8-a069-12cc0a9aa0eb !

October 24, 2015 at 10:17 am in reply to: Chrome vs. Stainless Steel?

For me SS has never been better than Chrome so if you find that slick I don’t think SS would be better for you. If the slipping is due to sweat than brass might be a good option. If you think you slip because you don’t feel like the skin grips Titanium, and Powder coated works for me. I like my brass too IF i’m dancing in a humid climate. I find I can grip any finish if I use this grip aid combo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgvvc2uvcFw
