AdministratorJune 4, 2012 at 1:47 pm in reply to: Question about Veena Grip for shoulder mountFor the top half of the shoulder mount the Veena grip gives you the most security. This is the only grip I can use to create a true straight line for the super invert. If you switch the hand placement it's not the Veena grip, and it doesn't offer the same security when the extended arm is on the same side as the pole. With the arms switched the grip isn't bad for the joints so it IS "safe" if that's what your asking, but with my experiance it's not as secure. The balance is different with the hands switched.
To me this is a clean line. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gifhttps://www.studioveena.com/galleries/view/4f8834cb-19e4-4b78-95e5-285c0ac37250

Hi, sorry I missed your post before FirstTimer!! Welcome to the site. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifI also realized that I have forgotten to post the June Challenge https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif I think you have a lovely idea, we did something similar a long time ago.

is it the pop corn kind of artex? If so I wouldn't put up a rubber mat, you'll probably end up loosing far more ceiling bits than only using the dome!
-
Are these grips what you're talking about Capfeb?

Blaque Diamond, if you had a video that would be helpful. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

My first pole room had pop corn textured artex, and I didn't have any trouble. You may loose a few pieces but nothing that was noticeable.

Yes no screws at all 🙂 if you have real hardwood floors you should be fine.

Yay for you!! It is normal for the shoulder mount to hurt, your putting a lot of pressure on a part of the body you normally don't. If you're taking the lessons go back and make sure the pole is in the right place. If the pole is placed farther off towards the limbs of the body, the more painful it will be. Keep the pole close to the neck/face, like you're talking on a phone. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

It sounds like you’ve been practicing everyday. You should give yourself a day of rest in between pole sessions. It’s normal to feel sore though. Watch all of the getting started lessons for each section and you find a more tips and suggestions for using the lessons and stucturing your workout 🙂

You mentioned you tried using the lessons, did you mean the lesson on here? If so, did you start from the very first lesson and watch all of the getting started lessons too? All lessons here are place in a specific order. So picking and choosing might not give you the results your looking for as a beginner.
Everyone has very good suggestions, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifand yes, a fireman is not easy or very beginner. That is why it's placed at the end of the beginner section. Don't get discouraged, I bet if you begin to structure your pole work outs you'll see better progress. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif If you have questions on any lesson please feel free to leave a comment so I can help you out.

Placement and grip is very important and can lessen the pain. If you're taking the lessons I'll show you up close, where to place the pole on the shoulder and placement for hands. I suggest working on both the Shoulder V and Shoulder mount from the floor first, this is also shown in the lesson. Keeping the chest lifted is also addressed in the lessons. It does take time to adjust to the pressure, so don't over do it when first working on this. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hmmm if its just hands then I'm not sure finish will make a big difference for you. You might want to try the brass x pole, Rixi has one you could message her to see what her experience has been. I'm eager to try my brass now that I warm up so much faster…and stay warm! I hated being cold. lol

I have lived in CA, MN and now NV and danced on poles around other parts of the US. I have found that temperature / climate seems to make the biggest difference for me. Not my skin type.
Since living in Vegas I've had the opportunity to dance on Stainless Steel, Chrome and my Titanium Gold. I have not had grip issues on any finish. The climate is dry here and all the studios including my apt. have not been too cold, but very comfortable. My first pole was SS and I had the worst time with grip. I lived in MN it was cold, my grip with SS was ok in summer. I have not had a chance to try my Brass x pole yet, it's still in storage.
I really do feel I have the most trouble with ANY finish if my body is cold. This is why I always ask those with grip issues "are you warmed up fully?" So it's not really my "skin type" but my ability to warm my body which in turn can affect the skin.
I would say I have normal to slight dry skin. Because it's not so cold here in Vegas, I warm up much faster and also begin to perspire easier, which make for better grip for me. I don't naturally sweat a lot. If i am cold my grip is just awful.
Titanium gold is still my favorite finish. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif But I feel with a good warm up you can make any pole workable.
