Yeah you can use whatever really but something with an ankle strap is a good idea! I sometimes dance in ballroom heels too!! They are nice and soft on the bottom so you can point the foot.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

AdministratorApril 18, 2013 at 10:19 pm in reply to: I’m not sure if I’m string enough to be invertingI agree you're so close! I would suggest working on the Intermediate lessons that lead up to the basic invert. Remember, all lessons are placed in order so once you've finished the 30 days you should still try to follow the lesson order. After the 30 days you will probably be able to skip around the beginner section, but you'll want to start at the beginning of the Intermediate section. Even if you're not ready to invert take a look at some of the other Intermediate lessons because many are taught from the floor first or from the reverse handstand so you don't need to invert right away. Also things like Climbs will help you build strength for inverting. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Krista, you are correct with your definition for oversplit. I'm not sure why some use the term so loosely for things that are simply splits or variations. Placing the foot on a block when you do not yet have a full split is not an oversplit. I think some use the term oversplit whenever the leg is placed on something (block, arm, etc.) but it's not really the right terminology. But I agree, you must have a flat split, then from there, the front or back leg moves past 180. A true over split is going beyond a flat split both for middles and front splits. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Sweating is something where grip aids are needed!! I’m so lucky I don’t have that issue!
-
I never used grip aids when I was first learning, I sometimes use them when I practice now but not often. They can sometimes make a mess of the pole and it ends up getting greasy. They come in REALLY handy for performing. The poles can be so cold and often, the room and your body isn't very warm either when performing, so I've learned to keep several types of grip aids in my bag.

I agree chair, floorwork and you could do wall work too! If you want inspiration try doing a search here for floorwork challenges or Chair dance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

ConsidertheButterfly, Try taking a look at the Routines section of the lessons, it's a new section and you'll see different ways to get yourself off the floor and back to the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifI'll be adding new ones all month long. Here is the first video in that section https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/51643705-1e4c-48c7-a77c-25cd0ac37250

Calipolepixie, I have spinning pole lessons. 😉

I don’t remove anything to make “room” for new lessons. I do update lessons but I’ve not taken away.

I'll be posting more new routines with combos next week!!https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

You'd be better off just getting a foam roller and using that for stretching middle splits. I'm guessing it's far less expensive than a stretching machine!!

I know you didn't mean anything by the term "Nazi" it's a common American saying. Being that this is an international site it's totally fine that someone mentioned that it could offend someone, but I know Serzi didn't mean anything by it.
We are all human and make mistakes. I type so fast sometimes I use the they're or their wrong. It's not my problem if someone doesn't like what I do or who I am, it's their problem. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
I feel that pole dance should be about self-expression and be taught as a positive tool enabling us to learn more about ourselves and possibly others. Focusing too much on perfection takes away from that.

Thank you Runemist! xoxo I agree, Randy and Lizz have been great to work with! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

AdministratorApril 13, 2013 at 9:31 am in reply to: Is it better to practice inverts barefoot or with heels as a beginner?Barefoot! Inverting in heels is more difficult and I really feel we should learn any new move barefoot, then move on to heels. To prepare yourself for heeled inverts practice by standing on the balls of the feet, don't cheat and let the heel touch the floor as you sweet the leg up, stay on the ball. When you can do an invert on the balls of the feet, without bouncing, then move on to heels. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I do things I've never seen often but usually you'll find out that it's already been done before. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

The Studioveena pole is a great pole for new dancers. It's a 45mm pole and this is the size I suggest for new dancers. The finish on our pole is also nice for new dancers. One more thing, remember it doesn't matter how good you are, what matters is that you're enjoying the time you get on the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Same way. Steam when you first get the pole an to deep clean then alcohol or windex for daily use cleaning.
-
I use alcohol to clean my TG during practice and STEAM to really get the pole clean and grippy!
