I don’t remove anything to make “room” for new lessons. I do update lessons but I’ve not taken away.

You'd be better off just getting a foam roller and using that for stretching middle splits. I'm guessing it's far less expensive than a stretching machine!!

April 13, 2013 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Foot-Nazi’s Are No Fun

I know you didn't mean anything by the term "Nazi" it's a common American saying. Being that this is an international site it's totally fine that someone mentioned that it could offend someone, but I know Serzi didn't mean anything by it.

We are all human and make mistakes. I type so fast sometimes I use the they're or their wrong. It's not my problem if someone doesn't like what I do or who I am, it's their problem. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I feel that pole dance should be about self-expression and be taught as a positive tool enabling us to learn more about ourselves and possibly others. Focusing too much on perfection takes away from that.

April 13, 2013 at 9:31 am in reply to: Is it better to practice inverts barefoot or with heels as a beginner?

Barefoot! Inverting in heels is more difficult and I really feel we should learn any new move barefoot, then move on to heels. To prepare yourself for heeled inverts practice by standing on the balls of the feet, don't cheat and let the heel touch the floor as you sweet the leg up, stay on the ball. When you can do an invert on the balls of the feet, without bouncing, then move on to heels. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

April 10, 2013 at 9:33 am in reply to: What size pole

The Studioveena pole is a great pole for new dancers. It's a 45mm pole and this is the size I suggest for new dancers. The finish on our pole is also nice for new dancers. One more thing, remember it doesn't matter how good you are, what matters is that you're enjoying the time you get on the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I use alcohol to clean my TG during practice and STEAM to really get the pole clean and grippy!

    Verticali, has some great advice!

Gail, if you're ready to work on the lessons on your own remember to start with the "Getting started lessons" Place at the beginning of EACH lessons section. These lessons will tell you how often to workout and give you tips and advice on how to use the individual lessons.

Here is the first one to watch. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4dd006a7-c45c-4c1e-b6b6-4a870ac37250

Nymph, I don't have dry skin issues here in Vegas! Yay! Also once I started using lubriderm lotion I didn't have as much trouble with grip in the midwest, my biggest issue now is more that my skin cools off so much that I have no sweat to help me grip. I love how well my body grips the SV pole in the cool temps. I was pleasantly surprised! We'll see how it handles sweat pretty soon because the temps are climbing 🙂

Calipolepixie, we will not be at pole expo this year, however if I'm in town please shoot me an email and you would be more than welcome to come try out the pole!!

April 6, 2013 at 10:15 pm in reply to: Swelling on top of foot from doing pole climbs

It's normal to rely too much on the foot when first learning however, as you mentioned, try to focus on pressing into the pole with the inside of the knee and use the front of the shin to climb as well. You should also be using the upper body a lot when doing a basic climb. To aviod over using the foot try climbing with the foot pointed, it's challenging but will help you feel how to use the legs more. Keep in mind there are several methods for climbing though!

The performance climb allows you to use the inside of the knees more then a basic pole climb.  Here is the lesson for the perfomance climb https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/50fd8f5a-d024-4cbb-a4df-74830ac37250

and here's another, the x ankle climb https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/f7c4b0ac-b91e-11df-856f-001b214581be

Athena30 both brands are great poles! But I love how FAST the SV pole goes up and down. I hoop a lot in my pole space and to be able to take it down and put it back up in seconds is soooo great. I like the powder coated grip for my body and the switch from spin to static is fast. Oh and it's light so moving it around isn't any trouble.

I think it's on the Red end of the purple spectrum, I guess Webmaster and I see things differently! It's basically our logo color.

If you already have a 45 I think trying a new size is a great idea. I love my 45s and my 40. I use my 45s the most though, and it's quickly becoming the standard size.

April 4, 2013 at 10:16 am in reply to: Does weight training impede flexibility

It can, impede flexibility if you do not stretch after your weight training sessions. I have been lifting for over 12 years now and know first hand that if I don't keep up with flexibility training I will tighten up. However, I have some of the best flexibility sessions right after lifting! I get some of the best results when stretching after strength training, this is why I feel it's important to do flexibility work when the muscles are very warm.

When I do my weight training I stretch in between sets and then after I've finished lifting.

As far as becoming bulky that is more of a genetic issue, I'm a tall, thin, endomorph so "bulking up" would be very hard for me. Shorter women tend to look more "bulky" because the have shorter limbs, it does not have to affect your flexibility though.

Good Zoeyxxxx, yes Megan, getting the butt up is the hardest part! You have to make sure your gripping really low between the legs with the hands when you start so your head is as far down as it can be.
