It should be possible to straighten the ankle fully & have a great line without worrying too much about the tips of the toes when you’re wearing heels. I’ve seen soft-soled heels for ballroom dancing which DO allow the foot to be pointed however, They look really nice but with less visual impact than our beloved platforms!
If you’re worried about strengthening the feet, I know Veena’s got some great lessons on here to help. -
I’m a bit of a lower leg leaner too! I’ve really tried to go the other way but just end up sliding slowly downwards.
For me, I only feel locked in place with the top leg pressing in towards the pole. I’m so relieved it’s not the wrong way. -

Standing next to your pole, place a looped theraband around the offending ankle (tieing round the base of the pole works great) making sure it wraps your heel & is under medium tension.
Do as many slow raises as you are comfortable with without letting that ankle roll out wards. On me this strengthened the outer lower leg muscles to keep everything under more control! -
I found my new fave pole shorts in the Bloch shop in London, they’ve also got a website. They’re soooo purple & stretchy, I love them!
Bloch design everything for ballet dancers so they stay put really well, I haven’t scared myself in the mirror yet. -
I’ve just seen the video….kudos to that lady! Her moves are amazing & such great flexibility too. What inspiration! X

I’ve been working on my splits about four times a week, I feel like the progress has been quite slow but given where I started from its looking better. I’m not giving trying to get them. Ever!

If you we’re able to mask off the rest of the shoe & spray lightly to get even coverage. Not sure if you can get it where you are, but there’s a craft brand of spray paint called plasticote which works on most surfaces.

Voted for you Veena, good luck! X

If the quality of the website is anything to go by then I would say the clothing should be good, I haven’t got anything by them but I love some of the designs!

I’ve been looking into the whole idea of having wrist support recently after having a lot of pain in my wrists while balancing my upper body holding a splits position, I’m still a fair way from the floor & have to hold a lot of my weight up on yoga blocks. After hunting around I found what seems to be a fairly straightforward tutorial for making a pair.

I agree with a previous poster that the ability to put favourite lessons into categories would be great! Sort of like a personal tailor made workout, I could even have a section for nemesis moves (it would be quite long!) -
I’d love a knitting pattern too! Can’t think of a nicer project now it’s getting so chilly here. Is the pattern easy? I’ve only just learned the basics of knitting. (runs off to fling wool everywhere)

Thank you for your kind email explaining everything about what you do, it sounds very interesting. Your original post read as rather commercial so thank you also for your reassurance on that. 🙂 -
Lol, I know that feeling! I’m always catching myself sizing things up for climbability too, only polers would understand, I’m convinced other people think I’m bonkers!

Wow, she’s an amazing dancer! It looks a bit like Veena’s fan kick but done on her back, one leg is following the other & I think she does a small push with her hand as well to get it started.

I’d be more than happy to test for you, I use my iPhone mainly either 3G or wifi, I also view using my laptop across wifi.

Koidragon, which Sony model are they? Some headphones for pole & hoop would be a godsend for me as I tend to practise quite late.

Thanks Kobajo, you’ve given me tons of good info! I’m thinking I’ll stick with pole simply for pole moves & do my aerial yoga separately, I think that way I’ll get the best of everything in its pure form. 🙂

Sorry, the link isn't working, hopefully I explained it ok! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

@Robinb the R Pole is quite light but I wouldn’t say the movement ever worries me too much, if you look at the pole in a mirror you can see it wobble, but I don’t really feel it when I’m using it.
ChemGoddess is right, the combined price + shipping to the US would be horrible! :-/ -
Hi Momofthree, I took the plunge about two years ago & got an R Pole Play, I like it because it's really & quick to put up & down, surprisingly sturdy & I love the powder coated grip which at 38mm is better for my small hands!
In hindsight, I think having the hard base that goes over the frame legs would be really useful as I could pole wearing heels. At the moment I use wall insulation cut into dairylea wedge shapes to fill the gaps between the pole frame legs & then a pole mat over the top.
I used to have the original X Pole which was great but when I moved I decided not to have anything which could put strain on the ceiling (my house is 130 years old) & also be put up outside when the weathers good.

MemberAugust 22, 2013 at 3:37 pm in reply to: How much space do you need for a pole at home?I used to have an X Pole up in my bedroom when I lived at home & to say it was a squeeze was a major understatement! I had about two feet of room on one side, a bed on the other & a wardrobe four feet away by the corner. I remember having to really be careful where I began a spin or trick otherwise BOOOONNNNGG!! I'd smack the radiator with my feet. Also worth mentioning is that this setup let me down a bit in class as I wasn't used to the feeling of allowing my weight to move away from the pole & get good momentum, I was always hugging into the pole. I now have a dedicated pole & fitness room with a freestanding pole right in the middle, I'm so grateful of the space I have to do things like reverse grab & floorwork.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Count me in too! I've started work again on my splits recently so great timing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif
Hopefully I can get them down a bit more.
