the one I attend there are 20 poles – 1 for the instructor, 19 for students. They dont overbook, but you have to call ahead to reserve a spot, esp if your taking a beginner class. As you get into the advanced classes, alot of us dont reserve since it hardly fills up. The class is 50min.
Its great to have that many poles and have one per girl but the downside is some of my friends are tall and have very long legs. They have a habit of hitting each other during a spin. I always thought if I opened my own studio I would only have 11 poles and plenty of space to for tall ladies to spin and not worry about hitting someone.

I work in a business casual office. I have one tat on my left shoulder blade. It only comes out if im wearing a sheer overlay with my shirt or im wearing a light colored shirt and it pokes through. A co-worker on the other hand has a huge piece of baby blocks of his sons name on rib cage/side (that was his first tat!!), hes got a AK on his forearm. My boss has a portriat of one of her dogs on her forearm. Both of them have them clearly visible, but we dont interact with customers that much to begin with. Another good friend of mine works for the Dept of Defense, she has alot of tats! The only one that gets noticed is the hibicus flower on the top of her foot.
I vote for just wearing a light jacket/sweater when working with your clients. Working in that kind of enviroment really stressed the professionalism alot. I also think with the kind of tats your wanting arent that big of deal. Its not like your getting 'Thug Life' across your stomach and wearing a midriff top to the office!
My tat is a side of who I am. I mean its only my zodiac sign but its a piece of me. Im also thinking of getting a hip one as well but I wanted to wait until I got to a weight I wanted to be at and maintain it. I also want my grandmothers rosary but im not sure where.

Agreed about Pole Convention. I know Id email her from time to time about questions and she was great about answering them or even offering suggestions. Shes always so calm and cool about it all but I know inside shes freaking out from all the stress.
I want to put on a showcase in my area since we has so much talent and places to learn, teach etc. I just dont have time right now (darn my responsbilites as a parent! lol)

I had both joints on mine jammed. It wasnt bad for actual poling but taking down was a PITA. Xpole reccomends that you equally tighten the joints and check everytime to see if the joints are in line.

Empy – You hit the nail on the head. Theres alot of behind the scenes work that most people dont know about. Honestly I didnt even know about event insurance until I ran my event. Its even harder when your the only one getting the work done. Its alot of work to do what we do – as both a perfomer/competitor and as an organzier. With the battle, I actually lost money. Which I kinda knew it was going to happen since this was my first event. Theres alot of things ive learned from putting that event on. And I know what to do for next time!

DC – P Spot and Pole Pressure
VA Beach – Esteeem Fitness Lucille and Krystle are really sweet
Charlotte – (I think its in Charlotte) Pole Fit Carolinas thats where Karol teaches

I would choose the finish that you prefer, since you are the one thats buying it.
Ive been babied by brass up until the past year. Its was a bit tough for me going from the grippiest finish on the market to some slip. But i have to say chrome and I have become good friends. I choose chrome b/c I eventually want to compete one day and they mostly use chrome or ss.

I had so much fun at the last convention and really wish I could go this year.

They both have thier own place in what we do. For me a compeititon is mentally and physically exhuasting on me. Ive been comepting my whole life – im a former NCA All-Star cheerleader. I spent many of my weekends at competitons. Now as a compeitior in pole, I push myself in the training sessions harder than I have in the past. Im hitting the gym 2-3 times a week, adding a pole session or two in that week as well. The over aspect takes up alot of my personal time. Thats why I when its all over I take some time off of everything and enjoy whats around me. Ive competed 3 times in Ms Xpose and still havent advanced to the finals. Ive had my moments where I just didnt feel like I was ever going to win and thought about giving it all up. But ive gotten back on the horse and kept trying.
As for a showcase, I havent done one pole-related but I had them in dance class. The pressure is totally off and its just 'lets have fun and show off what weve learned'. Im much more relaxed when I perform at a showcase. Theres no heartbreak and theres always a 'lets celebrate' afterwards.
I want to do a showcase in my area and asked alot of girls if they were interested. Alot them said 'well im no Alethea but I want to help out'. IMO showcases should be about celebrating pole in general – no matter how long youve been doing it. Im working on incoroperating that celebration of pole into this years Battle.

What helped for me was a wrist exercise that my husband taught me. He had told me wrist strength isnt really in the wrist its in the forearm.
What I do is get a handheld weight (start with 5lbs) put it in one hand. Have that hand palm facing up over a table, weight bench etc. Your hand and wrist should be over the table since thats the part that is going to do the work. You curl the up and down, so you get the full range of motion. I would do about 10 reps before I would switch to the other hand.
When your finished that your now going to flip your hand so your palm is facing down and repeat that motion.
That helped alot when it came to holds. Im still having split grip issues but I think its my whole upper body that needs help for that.

Im also thinking about seeing the chrio as well. I used to see one a few years ago and it totally helped me out. I felt better, I slept better and I 'grew' a bit too!

MemberApril 18, 2011 at 8:58 am in reply to: Are you watching the new Americas best dance crew? You should be!I agree with anngierm. Its hard to get 4 people to do that same move at the same time. And I do agree this show is based on an entertainment factor. JC said it well that one move looked hard has hell to time for them at the same time. And I agree with D-Trix about jazzing up thier walks a bit. Those 3min are yours to not only wow the judges but wow that audience too, I could care less how many crazy tricks you put in routine – but does it flow and become entertaining?
Overall, it was a good performance would of hoped for a bit more wow to it. But a good intro to getting pole mainstream

Ive learned that putting together x stages for my event. I still like the fact the still kept with the basic concept but made the base lower to the ground. The orgin when fully put together is 200lbs, im not sure about the new ones. X stage is going to be my next big purchase (or just tell everyone at Xmas to pitch in to buy it for me!)

MemberApril 15, 2011 at 6:21 am in reply to: What do you look for in a Pole Fitness Dance Studio?Everyone is providing great imput so I wont repeat what anyone else has put.
The studio I go to there are 20 poles- 1 for the instructor 19 for students. We also have to reserve for pole as well, if you dont show up and dont cancel 2hrs before – you will be deducted a class. We have a drop-in but you can buy classes in bulk and they dont expire. You can only reserve a pole if you have a class card. After visting over places, maybe having less poles to provide more space for everyone. There are alot of long legged ladies in my class and they have to seperate from eachother b/c they are known to hit each other and sometimes us smaller gals have me attacked by a foot. Smaller classes would also provide a more one on one time with the instructor. I really could use that from time to time.
I love open pole, its good to just have fun and not feel instructed.
Someone had mentioned a good looking website – YES! Most people who have heard via word of mouth is going to google you first before they come to your class.

MemberApril 15, 2011 at 6:11 am in reply to: being typecast as a dancer – advice please! As for trying a different style. If there is a studio near you take different instructors classes. Or even look at thier bios on the website. We have some instructors from Xpose who had no dance backgroud and some who have been dancing thier whole lives.
I personally dont see myself as a sensual/sexy kind of dancer. I guess thats just me, (I have a hard time trying to portray sexy to begin with. It just never looks right). I was once told I look more like a background dancer for Britney Spears than a poler. That hurt! But I watched the video they were talking about and saw where they were coming from. I started to take it more as a constructive crtizism than them poking fun at me. For me if I get a nasty comment, I giggle and delete. I dont waste time on it. Im all for constructive critism (excuse me for typing errors) but when you compeletly dog me b/c im fat or whatever thats just wrong. I know my momma taught me that if I didnt have anything nice to say then dont say it all. Maybe some folks sould just get the hint

Just came to my head – Laverne and Shirley! lol

I have a chrome pole as well. When I first got it and after Charleys suggestion I used acetone and gave it a good wiping. You dont know how long those poles have been sitting in the warehouse before they shipped it to you so it may have film over it. Ive still been using the acetone as a cleaner but I may switch to something else.
When I warm up my pole, I do pole climbs using both legs. So not only am I working both sides of my body when it comes to a climb, I can warm up my pole as well. Mine is in the laundry room and Ill run the dryer for about 20min as well.
