I hope you get to come to Spin On Fitness. I’m going on vacation on August 6th so hopefully I can make it to a workshop on August 5th instead.
-
I can do the flip no problem but I can’t split right now so I wanted to try landing on the pole itself in a sit for example but not sure the best way to approach that.
-
I have had both titanium and chrome. Much prefer the titanium. Much grippier than chrome although yesterday it was so hot that I had a hard time gripping with my hands cause they were too sweaty although the rest of my body stuck to the pole nicely.

Does anyone know how many people Elizabeth is going to allow to sign up for the pole jam? My folks live nearby and I’ve been to her studio before so I might just have to come back to visit but won’t know until next month if I could come.
-
Thanks. I actually registered for her online workshop last weekend. It will be my 2nd online workshop with Karol this year. Guess I should be glad I at least have that option since there is too much drama going on between the pole studios in this area.
-
Well I’m no longer going to Karol’s Pro Workshop in Pittsburgh. The studio owner contacted me this morning to say she refunded my money because the workshops are already full with her current students which I think is a lie myself. She heard I might begin teaching at another pole studio that is over an hour away (which isn’t the case currently) so I’m guessing that’s why she won’t let me come to the studio to go to Karol’s workshop.

Well I decided to go ahead and book my spot for Friday night https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hey Roxy, glad you’re back on the pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I’m sure alot of us on the forum will agree that poling makes us happy even when other family members don’t get it. You’re a great pole dancer and certainly inspring to me! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif You are certainly lucky to be able to do something you love.

My hubby has never been happy that I pole. Doesn’t like when I talk about it or spend hours surfing the internet looking for youtube videos, etc. I admit I’m addicted to poling but there could be alot worse things. He spends alot of time playing xbox so as long as we are not neglecting each other I think its fine.

The workshops were really more of using the pole for strength training and conditioning, etc. I had to do a private lesson in order to work on any pole tricks themselves.

Do you think you’ll be having these on a regular basis. I come to visit my folks in Burlington every few months and would love to attend one. I won’t be able to make the one in april though, which sucks.

Try buying 2 baby crib mattresses. They work great.

Even this past weekend I was showing my hubby a video where I caught my first twisted grip handspring which I’d been working on for months and he seems unimpressed and annoyed https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I use my dom hand on the bottom and my sub dom to grip with my elbow. This one is hit or miss for me. I find the forearm grip, split grip and twisted grip more secure.

I’ve only had one major accident. First time trying the jacknife and I lost balance and didn’t catch myself with my legs and landed badly on my arm and hit the cement floor. My upper arm was buggered up for almost 6 months and still occassionaly hurts.
Lesson learned (have a spotter and crash mats).
-
I originally took a 6 week beginner course with a studio then purchased my own pole and Jamila’s Art of Pole. Looking back at the classes I took they were helpful however they taught us to invert on our last class and I realized very soon afterwards I was definately not ready and suffered alot of back pain under my shoulders because of that.
If you are going to go to a studio make sure they have people teaching that truely know their stuff. Even studios that have competent staff may not be the greatest at teaching. Doing and teaching are completely different.
If you do plan on learning on your own I recommend taping yourself so you can see what you are doing right and wrong, get a good set of CDs such as Jamila art of pole that break down the moves clearly rather than just watching youtube videos and have crashmats and someone to spot you.
-
I couldn’t afford one of the crash mats so I just went out and bought 2 inexpensive baby crib mattresses and place one on each side of the pole when I’m practicing new advanced stuff. Works great.
-
I always tape all my pole practices then watch them back especially when I’m learning new tricks so I can see what I’m doing correctly and what I might be doing wrong.
-
Yes its quite easy as long as you have the split grip aysha down pat. From you butterfly all you need to do is bring both legs off of the pole. Just make sure before you do that you feel you are stable in your split grip hold.
-
If you don’t want to drive into Toronto you could go to Milton (about 1 hour away). They have a really nice studio
I’ve been there before and enjoyed it when I was out visiting my folks.
-
If you can do a butterfly are you able to do a split grip aysha? I found practicing that before attempting the cartwheel was helpful because it helps you to understand what your end result will be if you are attempting either a cartwheel or handspring mount.
Also trying to do a cartwheel mount into an extended butterfly can also help.
What I found helped as well is when doing the cartwheel mount is to make sure you look up at your feet when they come off the ground and make sure you lock that bottom arm in.

The temp plays a part. I was at a pole jam on Thursday at a studio and had no problems at all but tonight when I practiced at home on my xpole I had absolutely not grip even though my pole wasn’t hold.
Seems like when ever the temps here drop below freezing I have this problem.

Welcome aboard. I used to live in Innisfil, Ontario.

My hubby isn’t thrilled about me poling either because of what its associated it. I get excited when I learn something new and want to share, but I can tell he really doesn’t care. We basically have just agreed to disagree about it.
