im so sorry honey!!! i will keep you and your hubby in my thoughts xoxo

I’ve also been working on the elbow stand mount onto the pole, you have to use your abs to get your legs over your head onto the pole and then use them again to roll up and actually mount the pole, plus it looks fancy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif good luck!

Also using family size soup cans or water bottles full of water or sand can work in a pinch if you really feel like you need some weight training, sounds ridiculous but I’ve done it before lol

MemberMay 12, 2010 at 2:21 pm in reply to: felt like quitting, advice on non pole supporters?ugh I’m sorry you’re going through all that, it sucks when your SO is unsupportive because I feel like they should be more supportive than anyone! The bf I had before my current one was an asshole and didn’t like that I poled or posted videos even though he had no problem going to strip clubs and watching other naked girls pole dance https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif but needless to say we are no longer dating! My current bf is awesome and supportive of it so you might just have to sit him down and ask him what exactly it is about your poling that is upsetting to him. He might feel kind of silly when he can’t think of a reason or has a reason like being jealous etc…then you can explain to him why you do it and he might see it differently. But I’m sure your bf has some hobbies of his own that he spends money on like going to sports games or out to bars etc so it’s kind of ridiculous to tell you not to spend your money on poling if he spends his money on recreational things too…and I’m pretty sure he does since I doubt he sits at home all the time and does nothing for entertainment https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif He also might be afraid you’re going to start dancing and want to try stripping, personally I have no issues with stripping but a lot of boyfriends including mine don’t want their girlfriends doing it and in their mind pole = stripping. I think if you sit him down and have a non-confrontational disucssion about it and maybe show him some videos or have him browse this site a little bit you might be able to change his mind. But don’t give up! For every one person that is unsupportive of you I’m sure you can think of three who are so keep on poling!!!!

Chemgoddess…if you don’t mind me asking what size are you? I’ve been looking for a sports bra but I am a D so I need something with support and all the supportive ones in my size look like granny bras, it’s impossible to find cute ones but I like that one! If I see a light pink one at my wal mart I can pick it up for you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have problems with this too…I can do elbow grip aysha and straight edge so I feel like split grip should be doable for me since I can do elbow grip but nope! Every time I try split grip aysha I face plant…I think it is more of a balance issue for me than strength but it could be both who knows!! I will have to try these tips and see if it gets any better, thanks for starting this thread !!

MemberMay 9, 2010 at 2:18 pm in reply to: Pole School offers classes to 10-16 year oldsI read the articles and all the comments from moms saying how they would never allow their child to do such a thing…..
but then last night I watching that "toddlers and tiaras" show and I have a pretty strong feelings those are the same moms who are putting their 2 year olds in a full face of makeup and a bikini and having them prance around in beauty pageants. Not there’s anything wrong with that but I get a kick out of how many things are "acceptable" behavior for young girls but pole fitness is not one of them. Also, even if the pole classes were sexual which they clearly aren’t, you’d pretty much have to lock your child in the house and never let them watch tv, use the internet or read magazines to keep them from getting exposed to anything sexy or sexual. However I think if we had a more open view of sex and things like that in this country pole dancing wouldn’t even be such a big deal, but kids seem to want to experiment with things theyre not "allowed" to do hence the teen pregnancy rate being so much higher than in other countries. But I have noticed that a lot of parents would let their child walk around in a midriff baring top and shorty shorts before they would ever let them take a pole dancing class or get tattoos or anything like that, since pole dancing is so slutty and wrong….*hits head against wall*

MemberMay 6, 2010 at 2:10 pm in reply to: Official weight loss/toning up progress thread…Jorshi you are doing awesome! I need to follow your lead obviously especially with the soda drinking thing…I was raised on it and it’s sooo hard to give it up. But yesterday I did good and only had one cup of coffee and water for the rest of the day…I know I can’t give up all caffeinated beverages https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif and coffee is a better choice than pop. I was reading my fitness magazine yesterday and someone had a quote that said "No one has ever said they wish they hadn’t gone to the gym" so true! I need to get that tattooed on my face so I see it every day https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I’m going to need to post here when I need you guys to light a match under my butt to get myself going again!

MemberMay 4, 2010 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Official weight loss/toning up progress thread…How is everyone doing?! I have to say that I have fallen off the wagon a bit….I have a ton of stuff going on and I also have been having some tummy problems that have been making me not able to go to the gym and not eat properly, its very frustrating! We are going on vacation the second week of July to Disneyworld and I know we will be at the beach so I really need to step it up, no excuses! Someone come light a match under my butt please https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif How are you other ladies doing???
-
yes kiki please post! everyone here is super nice and honestly i think everyone is good no matter what level they are….there’s always something to learn from other dancers no matter how advanced or not advanced they are https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

congrats, thats a tough one! im working on the aerial sm right now…the way it’s going hopefully i will be able to do it before i’m 80, ughhh!!!

No kicking allowed…the ones that tell you to kick are doing it incorrectly. You should never kick into an invert because it’s a bad habit and also if you can’t lift yourself into an invert you probably aren’t ready to do one so if you kick you could get injured. You can do it without kicking, just give yourself time to build the strength first, it took me 3 months to invert and much longer to do it effortlessly. I have this pole DVD and when the instructor taught an invert I remember her saying "don’t kick into it, it seems easier now but will affect your form negatively in the long run" and I found that to be true, lifting yourself into an invert is a good gateway move for other inverted poses/building arm strength for more advanced moves. good luck!

MemberApril 17, 2010 at 2:12 pm in reply to: How limited will I be because of my background?I understand where you’re coming from, I feel the same way because I also have no dance or gymnastics background, can’t do the splits, am not very flexible and had NO strength when I started dancing. But after doing it seriously for a year, I have been able to do things I never thought I could do, even though I still can’t do the splits and I’m still not Aleathea flexible…..but, from where I started, I have come a looooong way and I can almost do the splits. I have had a hard time when I see people on this site *cough cough Fleur* who have been dancing the same amount of time as me or less and are at a much more advanced level than I am. But I have to keep it in perspective because I have my own strengths and weaknesses so I think it’s hard to compare yourself to other girls who have dance/gymnastics backgrounds, if that was the litmus test for a good pole dancer I would be considered super crappy! And Litlbit from this site I believe is in her early 50’s and has just recently started training to be a body builder and says she’s never been in better shape, so I think it’s never too late to start training yourself for pole/dance/gymnastics whatever you want to do to get where you want to be in your own personal pole journey.
