    Hi Lebe!

I think you might be able to benefit from some exercises to increase your upper body strength while you wait for you pole. Do you have access to a gym or weights?

Even if you don’t, there are tons of exercises you can do using just your body weight. I personally love push-ups to help develop shoulders and arms. Pull ups are good (if you can find a bar to hang from lol), chair dips or any kind of dip using whatever you want to dip off of LOL.

Squuats and lunges can help strengthen your legs … you’ll need that for squeezing onto that pole for dear life LOL.

You can also do some ab work (crunches, planks, leg raises) to start strengthening your core…cuz you’re gonna use that alot too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

Right after I wrote that I put my hand up and imagined I had a pole and I see that I actually don’t keep my hand very high for RG. Maybe just above my head? Is that right?

Veena, should your hand not be high up on the pole? I always tend to grab up high anyway for most spins…should I keep my "holding" hand lower for it?

I had the same prblem with my butt hitting the pole when I first started trying the RG. I was told to arch my back more. It seems to be helping…well I haven’t seen myself yet….but it feels like it is LOL.

They consider poles "toys" which is exactly what the peek-a-boo is. A toy for playing around with. Spinning around and shaking your booty for your man to spice things up. It’s not meant for real poling and hopefully people looking to buy a pole for real "poling" will know better.

I second Veena. I’m a beginner too (3 months in) and I am always in awe of people who have been poling as long or for a shorter time then me. Don’t ever compare yourself to anyone. It’ s a waste of time LOL. Just keep on dancing and as you improve be proud of what you can do! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

I wanna see! I wanna see!

I have an iphone too and use it a lot to watch pole vids during the day (because my job has banned youtube from it’s computers). I however, cant see veenas lessons on my phone or other videos posted on the site for that matter. I just get that blue lego box with a "?" mark on it where the video should be…

don’t let your weight hold you back from trying everything you want! I have seen very big girls climb a pole like a snake and do a whole lot of other stuff too! It’s about building up the strength!

    Congratulations on your climb!

Here are some other spins you could work on kasanya:
    Reverse Chair
Chair with one leg extended (not sure of the name of this one)
    Forward Falling Spin
    Backward Falling Spin
Front Hook Extended (where you bring your outside leg out and around to meet your inside leg)
Cradle Split (Cradle with your legs in a V)
    Just some suggestions…

    try Standing fireman too!

I like the idea of changing my pole workouts. Maybe not spinning and inverting everytime I pole. Maybe on my lifting rest days I can work on transitions and floor work. That sounds good…..the problem is sticking to it and not trying to spin and stuff when I’m supposed to be taking it easy lol. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

    Hi Natalie,
First off I want to say that I’m sorry that you feel so miserable. I know how irritating and stressful it can be to bounce from doctor to doctor as they try to figure out what’s going on with you. I myself am a Dermatology nurse and I’m very familiar with the type of biopsy they probably did on your hand. I’m guessing it was a shave biopsy maybe? How painful is it? And did they tell you anything about managing the pain for it? We do biopsies all day long on all kinds of body parts and mostly on soldiers who are very physical by job and can’t usually tolerate many restrictions so we are always finding ways to minimize recovery and speed healing. I’m interested in the bumps you speak of and if you have a picture of them I’d love to take a look and maybe even show the Dermatologist I work with. The mores eyes on the condition the better, right?!

As far as your mental state, I know you’re frustrated and bummed. You may not be able to grip very well but you can still work on dancing with the pole and doing moves that don’t require the use of that hand, maybe work on some one handed stuff with the other hand?
Try to stay optimistic. I know you’re not feeling 100% but when I’m stressing about my injuries and illnesses I just think of how bad it could be. A quick story…

I am a runner, or at least I was. Recently I started suffering from severe foot pain, not related to anything. They just hurt. 1 hour into my work day and my feet are throbbing. I was popping motrin like Candy to ease the pain and that wasn’t even helping all that much. Eventually I started having abdominal pain and it turns out I gave myself an ulcer from all of the motrin I was taking. Now I’m on more meds for the ulcer (and the bleed it caused which gave me anemia which caused all kinds of other issues) and on top of it all…my feet still hurt! And I need my feet! I am registered to run my fav 10 mile race in october and I was all depressed about the possibility of not being able to do it. So I go to see the podiatrist who prescribes me special orthotics. I go to a major military hospital (Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC) to get my feet analyzed and have my custom orthotics made. I show up to the clinic ready with my sob story about my poor little feet and I’m seated in the waiting room with soldiers missing all kinds of arms and legs. See, the wounded warriors back from war come here for their care. When their arms are blown off in battle they come here to get prosthetic arms made. When they lose their legs in an attack they come here to get new ones. And I’m sitting here with my achy feet. Sitting there watching them come and go in their wheelchairs and crutches made me almost embarrassed to even be there. “At least I have feet to walk with” was the mindset I had when I left there.

Days later in my clinic we see a patient of ours who is a very accomplished runner with skin cancer. He has registered and planned to run the same race I was doing in October. We have been talking about it for months. But his skin cancer is so bad he has had to get radiation and chemotherapy which has made him so sick he can barely even walk. He gets blisters on his feet for no reason and is broken down from a runner to a cripple. This week I start my training for that race, achy feet and all. I do it because I can and he can’t. Yes it hurts. Yes it sucks. But at least I can do it, or maybe come close to doing it. While I work my way through a run he lays in bed in pain with sores all over his body that continuously blister and bleed. I’m not at 100% top of my game…but I’m a whole lot better off than he is.
When you think of your condition and your issues think of the other side of the spectrum. You are ill and do have a condition that limits you, but at least you are able to get up and walk to that pole right now. You may not be able to do what you want, but you’re able to try variations. You’re able to stand. You’re able to function. I don’t mean in any way to trivialize your condition. I only hope to bring the brighter side up and maybe give you encouragement to know that when you think it’s bad and you’re frustrated, just think of how bad it could be. Then force a smile to your face and do what you can, because there are so many others that can’t even do that.
Ok, that wasn’t a short story and I’m sorry. I went off on a tangent, but hopefully you’ll learn to take your condition in stride and do what you can do, and be grateful that you can do that.

Ahhh yes, the frustration of fitting pole into a weight training routine. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

You are right, pole is a full body work out. With that in mind you need to decide on what your focus will be. Pole or weights? If you go all out on both, you run the risk of overuse injury and burn out. Depending on how many work outs you have a week you could try poling only 2 times a week, having one of those days on a non lifting day and one on a lifting day, So you would pole before or after your work out, depending on what your goal is. If you focus is on strength do that first, then pole.

You could try doing an upper body and lower body split for your weight training. So one day lower and another upper, than the rest of the week is free to pole. Sooo that way you could still do some pole work on your lower body day., leaving only one day of just upper body training to work around. The possibility are endless….so think about what your focus is and go from there. Are you looking to improve your strength for pole or do you just miss going to the gym?

I love to lift heavy to and I use to do bi, tri, shoulders,…. back, chest…2x a week and legs 1x a week before I found pole dance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif Make sure to give your whole body at least one full day of rest.

I now try to do one full body a week and then pole when I get a chance.

I think my focus is a combination of what you said. I miss the gym and working out and seeing the results but I also want to get stronger for poling. I think what I’ll need to do is do full body workouts 2-3 times a week and then pole during my off days. But I’ll probably be somewhat sore on those days which could be bad for poling but also good for working off the lactic acid build up of my Strength Training. Or I could workout during the day and then pole later before my soreness kicks in and with enough time between the lifting and poling for my muscles not to be fatigued….hmmm…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
