If your pole is new it might still be slippy anyway, try giving it a good clean with alcohol to help with the grip. The poles at my studio are much grippier than mine at home just because they have been worn down more

Not sure if this has been posted already but try going into chopper from invert to get the feeling of keeping your bum up, then lower your legs down as slowly as you can. That will really build your core up to help u do it from the floor. I struggle with this move too, sometimes I get it sometimes I am no where near. The more I think about it the more I can’t get it! Good luck

I use it on my iPhone, it works great. I paid for the full version-you might as well otherwise you’re just curious about what moves are in the other sections that you didn’t get. It’s a good app to remind yourself of correct technique. It is missing quite a lot of common moves though, but has lots I haven’t seen elsewhere x

I would like to use done of your stories in a short presentation on how poling for my teacher training, does anyone object?? X

Im working on my chopper at the moment…and I got it and held it properly on Thursday, I nearly cried I was so excited!! I dont want to lose it, so every practice includes a lot of choppers..
Also working on my static spins, spent since Oct on a spinny pole so now I need to get to grips with the static…https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Additionally your bingo wings vanish 🙂 Wahooo!
Overall poling has made me more slender and muscular but not manly at all. Good luck with your pole journey x -
with the bondage tape…how does this stop the bruising? Buying some anyway cos I quite like the idea, lol!! I also get bruising on the top of my feet, I am going to take your tip and wear socks when climbing from now on.
I dont know what I would do without this website for tips like this… I just assumed the bruises are normal cos I get bruises EVERYWHERE from poling and generally bruise pretty easily. But maybe it is my technique…Thanks!!

Now that is inspiring Little Jem…I am so pleased pole has brought back your confidence. Go you 🙂

Arrggh-the post above is mine, stupid phone staying logged in on my mates profile!

Thanks Magik, I tried to get my side hooked on the pole too but not sure if I managed it as the arm pain was the focus! There is so much to think about with this move in terms of positioning your body before you can begin to lift your feet off the floor!
Do you practice from standing or higher up the pole? X -
Wow, we all do it so differently 🙂 at first I felt like the intense warm up was eating into my pole time (as someone said above) but really honestly after the different session tonight I prefer it and think I am better on the pole after a good hard warm up. It really gets me in the zone where I forget about everything else and just focus on pushing myself 🙂
Even from the start of beginners class we have been really worked in the warm up as my instructor says if you want to pole well you need to be strong. However she does change it depending on the level of class as I recently went to the first lesson of the beginners group and thought they got a really easy ride.. They didn’t think that though, and neither did I when i started, lol! -
I tried teddy tonight from standing-all I have to say is OUCH! I know it sounds silly but I’m scared of that pain there! Pain on pole sit, climbing, laybacks etc I can handle but ouchy on the arm :-/

Plus poling takes guts to start which is a life achievement in itself 🙂

I only started poling in Oct last year but immediately became totally addicted and by the end of Nov I had my own xpole at home.
I am still totally addicted and obsessed with getting better and better.
In December in took a level 2 exam in pole dancing and achieved ‘highly commended’ for which I have register a certificate and a trophy. The trophy is a piece of tack but I am as proud of it as I am my degree, because I have never achieved anything in sport since I was a small child.
Aside from my achievements so far, I am most proud that I have found something I love and always want to do. It’s all I think about all day everyday- my boyfriend laughs and mimicks me all the time saying ‘pole pole pole pole pole pole’ but he understands my addiction because he is equally addicted to jiu jitsu and MMA. Out mutual addictions have helped our relationship because I now understand why he wants to spend all his time doing that and he is pleased I want to spend time poling.
The biggie is how my body has changed. I am pretty body confident anyway but prior to poling my body lacked any muscle definition at all, within 5 weeks the muscles on my arms starting popping up and then my bum moved upwards and my boobs got firmer and my stomach is hardcore underneath the layer of ‘chocolate and wine fat’ lol!!
Overall, poling is one of the best decisions I have ever made 🙂 I love it !! -
So after this thread started i got thinking about what kind of poler I wanted to be- trick or dance focused or a true mix. I have been focusing on tricks and forgotten spins and transitions. So, last night i found a brilliant song that MADE me want to pole to it and so i practiced a whole hour just doing around the pole moves and thinking about my
transitions… I really enjoyed it and felt a bit sexy and that it looked tidy and smooth for the first time since I started poling… Yey! -
Thanks RoseMay, I am so proud of myself.. I just hope I can do it again now!
-
I DID THE INVERTED V!!!!! Or areial invert / chopper whatever you call it… I can’t believe it!!! Since starting this thread I have been working on my strength every session and working on this move.. Watching technique vids, trying, failing, pull ups, push ups, core work, back work…. And last night I tried and I got it twice!! Now I just have to do it again…get it good and hold it then were on the path to inverting properly 🙂

I have a new chrome xpole 45mm and mine has been fine after a few poling sessions. At first it was impossible to grip. I use a climbers chalk on my hands sometimes and I think that might have scratched it up a bit more than polers chalk (fella seems to think it’s more gritty). Maybe try that ? X

I understand this frustration. My pole instructor is a dancer and she puts together routines to music so well and looks so effortless when dancing.
I am still trying to master the moves both dance and pole…so before I do that, I wont be trying to put anything together myself! Truth be known, I am not a naturally good dancer – unless I have had a bottle of wine first, then I at least believe I am good haha!
I guess it is something that comes with time. When I started driving I didnt get how I would know when to change gear..now its easy peasy and I dont even think about it. Maybe the same applies to pole dancing..in time it will become natural?

Ollie,
well done for competing, you are very brave. My pole exam was nerve wracking enough, I have no idea how you manage to control your nerves to compete in front of all those people. I wish I had know you were competing I would have come to watch, was it in Manc?
I am by no means an expert, but to pass comment anyway…as a newbie to poling I appreciated how difficult the moves you were doing were but I dont think an unknowing audience would have been able to appreciate the difficulty of them, as you didnt seem to hold each move for very long.
You're routine looked LOADS better towards the end…you'd probably got rid of your nerves by then, huh?
Well done… 🙂

Im really glad I started this thread I have truely learnt a lot from it…I didnt even think about doing inverts from hand stands because I'm still working on my hand stands (slightly worried about missing the pole!!), but this gives me a reason to focus on them and it will also help my strength. This means I can still work on the inverted moves I have learnt already at least.
I wish I could subscibe to your lessons Veena, so I could see how your lessons progress but I use my iphone and dont have enough data allowance to stream the videos..when I get the net at home I will be subscribing for sure.
-
So sparrow what you have your students work on before moving onto inverting?
No more inverts 🙁 all in good time though.. 🙂 hopefully not too long! -
I am really going to work on getting into it properly now ladies, starting from today. I know it’s much harder but it looks better and is correct so it will be worth it in the long run.
I just wish I had known better 17 week ago-I could have been nearly there by now!!
How long does it take people on average do you think?
At least I already have strength built up from poling so that will help me progress quicker 🙂
