I think I was lucky to be brought up with 2 women who had very different perspectives on their bodies. One lady was not happy with her body, but didn’t mind me seeing her naked in the bath whilst I washed her back or when getting dressed. The other lady used to walk around brazenly naked and often in a morning I would be woken with a her leaning over me in naked glory to open the curtains singing “wakey wakey”.
I learnt that I wanted to be modest with my nakedness but proud of my body and all the glory that it beholds.
Each ounce of fat is a memory of the too good times (eating too much, drinking too much, usually whilst in good company) and each toned muscle is a memory of hard work and effort and my body size and shape is the mirror image of my Mum and I am grateful that she shared her beautiful genetics with me.
Only tonight, I found this http://www.thenuproject.com whilst mooching around the net and I think this work is beautiful…I love the human form in all it’s shapes and sizes. It makes me sad when I see people feeling bad about their beautiful bodies

I run, I do weights (a variety of squats and deadlifts), full body fitness class (light weight endurance class with a focus on core work) and occasionally I do hoop and silks as well as pole!

It isn’t a sharp pain it is definitely muscular as it is relieved from massage and pressure on the pressure points.
I will try all of the suggestions above to help it. I feel it is brought on from doing handsprings too!

I was having this discussion only yesterday, I think it’s a combo of hamstring and lower back flexibility and strong quads to keep your legs up….but I am no expert..

I agree with someone’s post above about following your heart and that you shouldn’t be prevented from being honest about who you are just because someone might not like it.
As a professor I am sure one of the specifications for the role will be demonstrating good practice with regards to equality and diversity, I would hope the institute would demonstrate the same and not show prejudice to someone who poles.
Each to their own but I also would not operate ‘two personas’ either by having a personal and pole life. I am who I am and if people don’t like it they can shove it! For goodness sake, I’m a poler not a murderer!
Pole in my opinion should not remain a ‘little secret’ as this perpetuates the image that its something that should be kept secret and it’s not. If you normalise pole to others they are more likely to normalise it too 🙂
Treat others as you wish to be treated!

UK Veeners meet regularly! There is a group of us that started meeting last year and I think we are on our 5th pole jam in January 🙂
So far there are 12 of us. If any more UK pokers want to join us when we jam just get in touch, although we are usually up North, Stockport, Manchester or Lancashire.
We have such a great time and are all different levels and have all been poling from 5 years to a couple of months I believe. No one is not welcome!

I posted some before and after pics on my profile, I think they demonstrate what pole does clearly! I didn’t start pole for a particular reason, I.e. Lose weight / tone etc, I just started.
I bought a beautiful dress for my friends wedding 3 years ago, I started poling 2.5 years ago, I went to try that dress on last year and that dress no longer fits, it’s about 3 inch too big all over (annoying as it cost me a small fortune!) I didn’t set out to get smaller and I don’t feel like I have but the dress doesn’t lie!
I know I have muscles and muscle definition now which I have never had. I was looking at pics from about 2007-2010 yesterday and can’t believe how different I look, especially in my posture.
I feel generally body awesome. I didn’t feel body bad before pole but I didn’t feel body awesome either.
I LOVE POLE and everything it does for me, body and mind 🙂
