Hey Janey…not sure why you’d be straining your back on the shoulder stands…my back arches too (dosen’t lie flat on the floor)…if it hurts..don’t do it!! but you could also do these modified where you just lift your legs off of the floor maybe two ft…or flutter kicks!
An inverted V will use your whole core..not just the lower abs…especially when you are tipping back…that is total core…but core also includes your back!
I hope you find something that works for you!
Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I thought about those same options (portable dance floor/under chair protector) but I don’t know how well those would work…let me know if you try

I had a c-section but didn’t start pole for a few yrs afterwards…but take it slow and when your body is ready to take on the demand of pole, you will be surprised at how fast your tone and strength can come back!
Becareful and listen to your body…but like Veena said, talk with your Dr. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’ve heard that a good 3 ft in all directions is plenty…however I personally like to have at least 6 ft to allow for plenty of room for floor work…and plus it’s no fun kicking the wall when doing an extd butterfly! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I am an advocate of doing moves on both sides…although I don’t completely do it myself.
I do all spins and transitions on both sides. I work on almost all inverts on both sides with the exceptions of any hand springs or split grips. I have found that my "weak" side is about 2 mths behind my good side. Usually once I have the muscle memory on my good side I am able to get the move on my bad side fairly easier than if I start working on a new move on both sides at the same time…does that make sense?
I’ve never heard anything about getting confused about your grips when working both sides…that just sounds silly to me! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Is your pole stainless steel? How long have they had theirs?? The reason why I ask is that stainless steel has to be broken in…the more you use it, the grippier it should get.

You beat me to it Bebeduckie!! I was going to suggest taking a look! I personally don’t recommend EVER kicking into anything…unless you already know how to do it…but then again I am also biased as I like the way lifting looks vs kicking/jumping! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Once your strength builds up on spin mode you will be able to hold the pole like in the first picture. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I don’t think that there is a right or wrong way…but I find the first pic is much more controlling!

It’s so funny that you started this thread….my little boy asked me if I would walk on the ceiling for him….him and my husband both laughed when I did! The hardest part was not getting the "popcorn" ceiling pieces in my eye!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
