This is the one thing that I dislike the most about the xpole. I take mine down frequently and clean and lube the threads each time..but they still seem to give me a work out when taking the pole down. A few weeks ago I ordered the new quick release tool and they help alot…but it still takes a little elbow grease. I so want a one pc pole!!!

more and more studios are opening their doors to men…but I don’t know if I would have had a man come "try out" the studio the same day as the regular female clients…that would make it a little akward I would think…sorry you had this experience!

Hi and welcdome to the site! There are loads of information and tons of very supportive people on here! It’s easy finding a stud/joist in popcorn ceilings..all you have to do is tap…if it sounds hollow then your not on a beam…I have an x-pole and popcorn ceilings. It can remove a little bit of the popcorn..but it will most likely be noticable only to you!

This is such a scary move for me! I’ve tried it to both a gemini and a scorpio…gemini is easier, but scorpio is less painful! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I also find superman to be easier…and less painful to get into from a hip hold/pike position as compared to a gemini…I think it has to do my "american" thighs! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I have popcorn ceilings and was found while putting it up only 2-3 very small crumbs came off, I have not removed it yet to see but I can tell the ceiling appears to go up as the pole is tight against the joist on the other side. My husband is worried sometimes that it will tear part of the edge around. I told him don’t worry I’d pay for it. LOL

are you sure your pole is centered on a joist? I’ve had this happen but only when it wasn’t in the right position.

I think Joy does a great exit from the pretzel spin and I’ve been working on doing it this way also…

the foot that is wrapped around the pole needs to drop to where your toes touch the floor and as you spin, your body can unwind from the pole and pirouette off of it….I have a vid at home where I did it on spin mode…I’ll try to post it tonight after my class.

okay…so there are two ways of doing a CAR…1. is grip the pole b/t thighs above your knee and 2. grip b/n calfs below the knee. Which are you trying? Probably the first one I assume. Before you try to lean back go ahead and tilt your legs into position.

    try this:

Sit on pole in pike position
cross feet and swing legs up towards your ceiling (you will lean back slightly)
once you have a good grip, use your hands to walk your upper body down into final position.

Sometime it helps to learn this in reverse. Do a handstand, wrap legs around pole and grip and then slowly lift arms/body up to sitting pike position. I actually learned it this way first!

That is great that your hubby agreed to get you another pole. The majority on here will suggest X-pole. They are very strong and easy to use. Platinum stages is also a very good pole. 50mm is the standard size, but you can get a 45mm if you have super small hands. There are many finishes to choose from: X-pole comes in chrome or titanium gold (which is much grippier) and platinum stages comes in stainless steel and brass.

As far as Veena’s lessons…go in order. The videos at the beginning have great exercises for building the strength that you will need later on to master more difficult moves! Remember to take your time and not rush moves as you can get hurt. Always work on the basics even when you become advanced! Practice makes perfect!

The more you practice your floorwork, transitions, spins etc…the more fluid you will become in your movements and you will eventually get to a point where you can dance for your husband with out having to plan out a routine! Which I personally think is MUCH hotter!

I hope you share your progress with us! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

are you sweaty? You could try putting some rosin or tite grip/dry hands (both are deoderants for the hands) on the inside of your thighs. I know If I’m a bit sweaty b/n the thighs then it’s hard for me to grip. Is your pole warmed up before you try sitting on it? If your pole and body are warmed up and you’re not sweaty then it might just be that you aren’t squeezing your thighs together hard enough…I dunno, but I hope you figure it out…

Oh…how high up the thigh do you have the pole situated? Lower, middle or upper thigh?? I have found pole sits to be MUCH easier the further up the thigh you have the pole…just be careful!:)

maybe you should post a vid so we can see exactly what happens! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I think we all go through plateau’s…well at least I do. I’ll have a really good practice and the next 5 could suck…I had one of those practices tonight actually! I’ve found that if I’m getting frustrated while practicing I stop working on tricks and dance for a little bit…after all I do want to work out…sometimes I’ll even pop in a pole dvd to get some inspiration! If you don’t have any dvd’s…just look on yt. The one thing about learning new moves you have to learn it mentally and physically…you need to allow your body to develope the tolerance and muscle memory of the move. If you did it once…you’ll get it again. If you have yet to get it…be patient, you will! Practice! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
