I had so much fun meeting everyone there – congrats to everyone who competed! It takes a lot of guts to get out there – way more than I will ever have! And Charley – your "freestyle" was gorgeous and I had no idea until you told me. I really enjoyed meeting you finally! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Yay! I am so glad that we got to see this taken care of and that Mars did what was right. Maybe I will order some pole M&Ms of my own now! I am very relieved that I don’t have to give up the peanut ones. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Count me in, too! I can’t help but recall their slightly racy ads with the slutty green M&M….how is your silhouette more provocative? So ridiculous. There’s worse stuff on the news that kids see all the time.
edited to add that I was so mad I didn’t finish reading the whole thread – glad I’m not the only one remembering the slutty green ones!

Sissy, don’t sweat it – it was great to see you, even if it was just for a few minutes. At least you got the giant grand tour of Charlotte, right? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Great job – that’s awesome! Balance and shifting your weight plays a big part in this stuff. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I took my first class in March of 2009 at a local studio here, and signed up for their series from there. The studio wasn’t all that – I learned some basics, but also missed the boat on some of the safety stuff, which is super important. I figured out that I wasn’t going to learn what I wanted to at that studio, but there weren’t a lot of other options here! Roxy-Pink was really my teacher more than the studio teacher was – she worked with me during class and at open pole. But I really didn’t see myself being able to progress into the tricks that I wanted. We still have some pole play and I love being around her – she’s so cool and I always pick up some new stuff! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
Alethea Austin ended up teaching a workshop at the studio, which I got to attend. I was SOOO intimidated, but she was great! As an added bonus, Karol Helms was there and I got to meet her. That was pretty much the luckiest day of my life – Karol became my teacher from there. I get a lesson from her once every month or two – other than that it’s a lot of watching youtube, practice, and poring over these forums!
The one thing that I wish was a little different was I miss having a studio where you can be with other people. I loved that when I was taking classes and really liked the girls in my class – it was fun. Plus I got used to being around other people! That is a big struggle for me now – I’m so used to practicing on my own that I am a little shy and self-conscious poling with others. I would also love to go back in time and tell myself that even though the tricks wouldn’t come overnight, they would come eventually! I started off very hard on myself – now I am loosening up and having fun with it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Hi Jeng,
The way that I worked on this that helped me was to work against a wall. I would put my hands a good bit from the wall, and then would lean my body forward as far as possible-until I was touching the wall. The further out I started, the more I could lean into it and the easier it was. As I got stronger, I could get my hands a little closer to the wall, and then the pole. I usually go a little bit off to the side – I don’t touch my head to the pole.
This might sound crazy, but I can’t have my hands normal for this (fingers pointing forward). I rotate my hands out so that my fingers are pointing backwards, or out to each side. For some reason I can press into them better that way. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Good luck – I hope some of that made sense and helps you!

Ahh…this is a topic close to my heart. When I first started pole, he asked me as his one request to never post videos online. And his reasoning was logical – he, also, did not want anyone "perving on his wife". The other reason is that we both work for very conservative companies that may not see it the way that I do. I agreed to that – almost a year and a half ago.
I would never, ever, post without his knowledge – I respect the boundary that we agreed to, but I see this forum as being different than a youtube and a safer environment. I also feel sometimes like I miss out on being as involved here as much as I would like to because I am not able to be. To be perfectly honest, most of what I have focused on is tricks – I would love to say that my dancing was so smooth it would set the loins of the world ablaze, but I can assure you that is not the case! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I am thinking about seeing how he would feel about me posting a clip here asking for help with a move. That seems like a less drastic way to approach it than a whole video. We will see!
