You can never go wrong with lifting weights, and I wouldn’t replace one activity for another. I lift weights and pole on the same day the majority of the time and I have not had any strength issues (ie being too tired or something). I found that it makes a great deal of difference to be strong and more difficult moves come so much easier to me than most girls in the classes I take. Poling will also help cut your muscles up and give you that nice definition because it’s resistance training that will get your heart pumping. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    I don’t think it’s 3500 calories a pound. More like 1500-ish but I’d have to look it up… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Yes it is. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about. My mom is a dietition, I’ve heard about this sort of thing my entire life. I’ve also read a plethora of books on the subject. It is 3500, I’d bet my life on it. Google if you don’t believe me.

Ok,ok my bad. Like I said I didn’t look it up, so I wasn’t sure.

I’ll be sure to never doubt your wisdom again in the future https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif .

Small changes can make us feel more empowered, like we’re doing something positive no matter how small it may be. I work on the third floor and try to take the stairs to and from my job. It isn’t much but it gets my heart pumping a bit and might be helping me shed 6 calories or so. Every bit helps right? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I take the stairs too, it’s good not to be lazy with the elevator. I just don’t think it should go as far as purposely turning down your air to burn cals, it gets kinda ridiculous when it gets to that point, ya know what I’m sayin https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

Also…you need to burn 3500 MORE calories than you consume to lose even 1 pound…changing your tempurature will never do this for you.

Sorry but 20 calories a day will not make a single bit of difference in weight loss at all.

I have had mine pierced for almost 2 years and it doesn’t bother me on the pole at all…then again I always wear a shirt lol But it shouldn’t be too much of a problem

I’m average height (5’5"–but that also means I’m tall for a Chinese gal!) but underweight and I completely prefer the 50mm. I’ve tried the 45mm brass at different studios, but it always seems too tiny for me. My hands are relatively small but I have long fingers and when I’m on the 45mm, it doesn’t feel like I can use the strength in my hands in a significant way. I would have to agree with Violet and say that a chrome 50mm Xpole is something you really can’t go wrong with.

Thanks for this comment! I also have long fingers so now I know the 45 will probably be too small for me.

I think I’m gonna go with the 50mm chrome https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    Thanks everyone for your help!

What if I’m tall but I’m underweight? 45 mm or 50? (I think I might just have to measure the pole I’ve been using at the classes lol)

    My DVD arrived yay!

I purchased Vol 3 and I think I made the right choice – as I can do about 40% of the stuff already.

In case anyone else is interested – volume 3 covers covers cupid/princess, superman, straight leg climb, butterfly, shoulder mount preparation, advanced plank, aerial upright V, hello boys (aka venus, V sit), cross ankle release (aka hangback, falling angel), shooting star – as well as some combos / routines to teach transitions between these moves.

So you can use that as a guage when deciding what level to get too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thanks so much for this information! I will definitely buy this video now https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I would definitely recommend weight lifting. It is imperative to build your muscle strength asap and pole dancing will be that much easier for you. I take pole classes and I have been exercising my whole life and started lifting weights when I was 12 and let me tell you – It was so much easier mastering the more complex tricks since I already had strength and stamina built up prior to beginning lessons.

If you intend to begin strength training, make sure you work every muscle group. Often times people want to target a specific "problem area", for instance you are probably looking to strengthen your arms and upper body but do not neglect your lower body. To achieve a well toned and fit body one must give every muscle the attention it deserves.

Right now I am on a 6 day weight lifting routine but 3 to 4 days a week is a good amount as well. Everyday I target a new muscle region in this order – back, biceps, legs, chest, triceps, shoulders and forearms. I do 4 to 6 exercises for each muscle group, 3 sets, 12 reps each. I also do jumping jacks (15 to 20) inbetween sets to keep my heart rate up but if you are just starting you can use the inbetween time to rest. If you do not have the time for a 6 day a week rotation you can opt to this schedual instead – back+biceps one day, legs+shoulders (and forearms), chest+triceps. The work out will be longer but you will only have to devote a small amount of time 3 days a week to complete it. Also it is a good idea to change up your routine every 6 months. For instance if you begin with the routine I just mentioned, later you may want to aleternate to back+triceps, legs+shoulders, and chest+biceps. That way your body doesn’t get too accustomed to the routine you have been habitually practicing for months.

More important notes – if you want to get toned and build strength, add cardio into your exercise routine. I don’t know how often you exercise or in what shape you are in but I’m sure you can figure out what works for you. As you get stronger and build endurance you can pump up the cardio. Building muscle is great because muscle burns fat, but to get lean and cut you have to include cardio.

Wow okay I rambled sorry, but this is something I’m very passionate about and eager to share with others. I hope this helped! Lemme know if you have any questions/concerns, I’m here to help!

ugh, the video on the site made me cringe. i think its hilarious she said "I do not want to see Paris Hilton on my pole!" don’t see why not the way they’re marketing it. big let down from x pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I think she said Perez Hilton…that weird homo celebrity roaster – for lack of a better way to describe him.

I ALMOST bought one of those damn things from my local mall because they were selling them for 100 dollars. Then I stopped to think that it has to be too good to be true – a quality pole at that price??? Luckily I researched and avoided wasting money and potentially injuring myself. Those things should come with a giant warning label! What’s sad is I also researched the Electra pole, and they say on their website that customers can spin and invert on those poles yet all the reviews I read said absolutely do not attempt anything other than dancing on the Electra pole.

    Very misleading indeed.

Thanks Jigsawchick. I have the exact same issue with my hands. Not sure hwy they are so weird, but yeah sweaty yet freezing. I will try the certain dri and if I need the gloves then I will get them too, but maybe the certain dri will work on it’s own.

No problem! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I would definitely recommend the Certain Dri, hopefully it will work for you. I use it on my underarms and it’s amazing, I don’t sweat all day if I’ve used it.
