I’ve been reading the threads about all this and really haven’t been able to form a coherent thought to respond because it just makes me so mad!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif
I’m going to agree with Kari and Day: hearing this made me not want to go to the competition, and I thought it was ridiculous that they charge a yearly membership fee. I’m going to the competition anyway to support Amber as well as the other dancers, plus I haven’t ever been to a pole jam or even met another person in person that poled and have been looking forward to this trip more because of that than the competition. This whole situation is just so…. so… STUPID! The USPDF workshops were pretty much full, they don’t own the dancers, there is no reason that they should feel threatened by another studio offering workshops.
Way to go Veena for offering to have a couple workshops! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I had to admit I was kinda sad when I heard that because I really really want to go to one of her workshops, but I can’t. I could only afford one from the beginning, and it was originally between Amber and Karol. I went with Amber because I kinda-sorta know her "personally" because of being on the site here and I’ve been wanting to meet and pole with her for a long time. (No offense to Karol, of course) But now one of my other big pole idols is going too and I’m too broke. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
Hopefully Veena will be around somewhere and I’ll get to at least meet her in person, anyway https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Body & Pole just added 2 workshops on Saturday March 20th with VEENA!!!!
You can sign up online at http://www.bodyandpole.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Veena was so sweet to offer to come to NYC just to teach these workshops! She felt so bad for all the students that had their workshops cancelled because of the USPDF’s actions against us.
We are so excited and honored to have her at Body & Pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I SO want to go to one, but I could only afford one workshop and I’m signed up for Amber’s USPDF workshop… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I’m going to be hard-pressed for cash for the trip as it is, too!
Maybe I’ll still get to meet Veena in person sometime over the weekend, anyway. I’ll stay optimistic. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi, my name is Ellen, and I am a pole addict. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
LOL I’ll send you a message with my real name so you can find me on Christina’s list https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I ditto what polergirl said… loaning/borrowing money from friends and family is usually a very bad idea because it can so easily break the relationship.
My husband borrowed a lot of money from a friend right before we got married and we still owe him a bit less than half… The friend doesn’t care, he sees us as like a bank account because he’s afraid he’ll spend it if he has it himself https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I resent that because we’re not a bank, and it’s not like we actually have the money sitting around – we don’t have it at all!
So yes, get something in writing and stick to your plan… otherwise, your friendship might be ruined and your pole will be forever a symbol of that.

Awesome, Fleur! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Even though I’ve heard your "story" a couple times already, I don’t get tired of hearing it.
Kudos for teaching shoulders back and down right off the bat… that’s probably my biggest struggle right now, I can’t tell if I’m doing it right! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif Oh, and I’m jealous of your Poleskivvies…
Anyhoo…. yay Fleur! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Just want to triple check and be sure we’re all on the same page. There are multiple W Hotels in NYC. The Poletential crew is at W The Court, at E 39th and Lexington. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gifDitto – sharing a room with THE Dayanara! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I want… shorty shorts or booty shorts that actually cover my butt cheeks! I feel like I’m always hanging out of anything I put on, and it’s not like I have a big butt or anything, either.
I’d love a set of poleskivvies, but they’re a bit on the pricey side… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

MemberFebruary 10, 2010 at 10:41 pm in reply to: public service announcement about doing BOTH SIDESYes, I’m guilty of this as well… I can do all my spins both left and right-handed (I tend to favor the left because it has better grip even though I’m a righty https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif ) but anything inverted is with the right – right hand on inside or on bottom, depending on the move.
Since I’m practically starting from scratch I should probably take the opportunity to learn lefty inverts… heck, I’ve been back on the pole a month and still can’t even do an inverted crucifix! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
So I’m with ya on this one… both side learners unite! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

Thanks RaRa! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I put up a quick vid if anyone is interested… wasn’t by best because I started spinning and didn’t want to let go all the way, but meh.

Also, if you open the thread itself in a new tab you can bookmark/favorite the actual thread… sometimes it doesn’t show up as its own url if you just open it straight up.
I’m not sure what "bookmark topic" does, but the "subscribe topic" thing is just so you get an email whenever someone replies to the thread.

I DID IT! (with thigh-high boots on, but I did it!)
I just uploaded a pic to my profile pics… I didn’t quite have time to lay back all the way (10 second timer, you know). I had more problems with spinning when I laid back all the way than I did with the pain.
I found I had more problems with the pain from the eyelets in my boots pressing into my ankle, lol. I also slid my lower ankle a bit more to the side so that the very bottom of my shin was more against the pole than the ankle joint was, if that makes sense… took some of the pressure of it.
I can’t wait to try this when I get my leg grip back in full swing again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
-
I don’t know what it’s called or how to do it, but I’ve seen the move in some Chinese pole videos – I know Remi Martin did it in at least one video of his I’ve seen. (or at least something extremely similar)
At first I thought she was doing it one way but then watched it again and I was wrong… It’s strange, she’s gripping the pole with the foot of one leg and the knee of the other leg, but the free foot is stuck through the free knee on the other leg… and yes, it does look painful.
So Is gots nothin’. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
Hopefully someone else has some better input on this… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

@Fleur: I’d say polishing moves, because you mentioned them being picked by the attendees, correct? If they get to pick the moves that you help them with, it could be a simple basic invert or something more advanced like a jade. I mean, even if the moves all end up being more basic, even people that are more advanced can benefit from cleaning up the moves that are more simple to them. Does that make any sense at all? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
Teaching combinations, whether they be combinations between simple or advanced moves, is also another great idea, in my opinion. I think a lot of people can do the tricks individually but have a hard time putting them together and/or choreographing them (*raises hand*). So I think your idea of combining both elements in one workshop would be an awesome idea, however I think it would entail a lot of more one-on-one work and/or variations in your "lesson plans" to accommodate for the different skill levels (once again, no idea if I’m making any sense…).
Just a random question: do they have workshops strictly for beginners? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif One that teaches spins, strength training exercises, stretches, transitions and simple choreo, and maybe touching on proper inverting technique. Maybe even including a handout of proper move progression or something of where they should be heading (are handouts typical at a workshop???).
Anyhoo, I think it’s great that you’re trying to include everyone in your workshops, Fleur, very generous of you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

MemberFebruary 7, 2010 at 7:35 pm in reply to: Floorwork Help need cute knee pad suggestion!!I’d kill for hardwood floors to dance on! I have carpet and the carpet burn on your knees is awful… plus you can’t pivot on your feet very well, especially in heels. So I personally wouldn’t recommend a rug, unless you got a very very soft one…
Some leg warmers might go up over the knees, but other than that I can’t think of any cute ideas to protect them. I’m not sure if that’s something you might get used to over time if you just kept dancing on the hardwood, but you might.
Good luck!:)

I get my shoes from shoebuy.com… don’t know if you’ve tried them. I’m not sure if they do wide fit, either. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif But that website has free return shipping (I think free shipping in general, but don’t quote me…), and they have all kinds of coupon codes that you can Google for and find – so at least if you do have to return them, you didn’t waste any money.
At the very least you can take a look… they have Pleasers and all kinds of shoes. Good luck!
Oh, as far as physical stores, the only sex shop I’ve been to had some really chinsy shoes… reminded me of those plastic ones that little girls can get at a toy store compared to my Pleasers. Maybe it’s different with other stores, though… :-/

I’m currently trying to do this challenge, but it is impossible for me to dance for a whole song without having to wipe the pole and my hands! I’ve tried shaving gel, hair spray etc. none of it works! I clean my pole with window cleaner and when i start its perfctly grippy. I alo know its warm enough as ive been dancing for an hour now! I just get so freaking sweaty, then I get annoyed, and as a result i get even sweatier. Half the time in my vids, im wiping my pole… and thats not sexy!
What can I do??!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
Tite Grip and DryHands are also anti-persperants but they are made for your hands. I’ve tried both and I generally prefer the Tite Grip but both work pretty well. It’s good to learn without the grip aids, though, and just use them when you know that you’ll be doing an uncut dance or doing a lot of holds. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Someone else just made a thread about this… I believe Veena said another week, they’re changing to the new poles, I guess.

Thanks SandyBrown! I was worried I overlooked something in my junk email or something… now I feel better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Do you try to eat anything else along with them? Maybe the acidity wouldn’t bother you so much if there were other things in your stomach to balance out the acid; something more basic (I’m digging up memories from science class… opposite of an acid is a base, right?). You might want to try changing up your eating routine so that you have your fruit along with your meals instead of as snacks. Just a thought, maybe a few of the other ladies would have better ideas for you – good luck!

I’m in Amber’s USPDF workshop on Saturday. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Speaking of which, I haven’t heard anything else about it. We were supposed to get an email with the studio locations on Feb 1st, and I didn’t. Were they even sent out? Also, are there tickets for that or do they just ID you or something? Other than my receipt, I have no other proof I bought the darn thing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Same with me and my 7 inch Pleasers… I’m trying to talk my husband into letting me get a 5 inch pair to take to USPDF in March https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
