I agree with chemgoddes1 !
Ofcourse you are feeling bad about it. You were set up to believe you should be able to do it, in your second class.
I've been poling for 2 years now, and iI spendt most of my first year, learning and perfecting spins, the longest one for me to get, was the chair spin. That didnt happen until last summer 1½ year in my journey. Its a tough one! Please dont feel like you are pitiful or a whimp, because you are not. Your instructor just works in very mystirious ways, and I would actually adress the issue, because not only is this making you feel bad, but its not safe. You mentioned that some of the other girls, you did do the spin, had skin tears on their wrists, that strongly indicates, that thats because they were hanging from the pole, and NOT lifting, like you should. If you are abled to lift with one arm, push away with the other, then your wrist actually dont have contact with the pole.

Im in med school, and most of the women there, are very casual dressed, but many of them complimented my shoes, and I even convinced one of them to buy a pair and try out a poledance class 😀

Doing great spin photos, is tricky because its all about timing. Not only for you, but the photographer as well. You need to be able to hold the spin for at least 2 rounds, and do not go very fast. Then its up to the photographer, to get the focus + angel just right. When I do spins fr shoots, we agree on taking maybe 100+ pictures, and only excpect 5 good ones, however its worth the trouble. And if you find a spin pic, that you just love, but is out of focus, just go with that in the editing. Concert black/back add motion or gaussian blur as a vignette around you, just touching your figure enough to get some more blur on you aswell. Other than that, the best thing is to practice poses and moves before the shoot. Focus on being able to have enough control to not turn around on the pole, when you are doing your trick, because if its a studio shoot, there will be lamps and such, making it difficult for the photographer to move to far, to get the angel right. Another thing is, to show pictures of the moves you want to do (Veena has a great gallary here) because often the photographer doesnt know what you want to do, and they might take the picture at the wrong time and they might not have the equiptment to take several pictures right after eachother, leaving you in the air for a long time, which is not good or save with the warm lights. Remember a towel 🙂

Completely agree with Katana! 🙂 Im too skinny for some moves, and I've let them go 🙂 A poledancer doesnt have to be able to do all the moves in the book, its important to enjoy and perfect the ones that are in your body's reach. Poledacing is for everyone, because it can be so many things. Crazy amzingly athletic, ballet, hiphop, sexy, fitness, dancing around and so on, but most importantly, it should always be fun, so just take a go at it, have some fun with it. Dont rush into any tricks, thats important for everyone, and remember to enjoy that feeling, when you get something you´ve worked on.

I must admit that I dont understand the frustration over poledance and porn and so on.. I respect other opinions ofcourse, but this just doesnt bother me. Im very good friends with a popular danish porn star, and she rocks, and she poledances like a pro 😀 When she dances, she doesnt dance for the athlete aspect, but because it makes her feel sexy, and therefor her style is sexy. She is a sexy poledancing pornstar, and I would love to dance like her. But then again, I dont have to deal with people frowning on poledance. Here in Denmark, people know that this has become very popular as a sport. Im proud to say I poledance, and the responses are always "yeah, that has become sooo popular to do!", "Cool, I wanna try that" "Omg thats soo hard" "Can I try" "can you teach me?" I know thats not the case for everyone, but it makes it very hard for me, to want to take pole away from the strip aspect or porn. I also love the way it is right now, there's athletes, theres sexy dance. I dont want either to push the other out. Besides, if pole wasnt in the stripclubs, before it became popular as a sport, I dont think it would be as empowering as it actually is. It is empowering to dare to be a sexy, dancing woman and still be strong as hell. It would be boring if it was just all about gymnastics. 🙂

Its important that I wash my hands, right before using it, otherwise it doesnt get sticky on my hands, but if I do that, its a winner everytime. I used the gloves with tack for the first year, they were amazing, and lasted the whole year, until I had worne of the tack. Non tack, never worked though.

I just cant do it!! 🙁 And its pretty sad, because normally with prev. nemesis moves I finally can do, I never lost hope that I could do it someday. With the ayesha, I dont think I'll ever get it.. The problem is that Im strong enough, but to scared to do it, because I dont feel like I can hold my balance.. 🙁

Heck, I dont even think I've ever lost my grip. Uhh Im gonna go tell everyone I know, that Im a highly trained professional poledancer.. Right up there with Oona and the rest. Lol…!! 😀

I have really thin thighs and a huge gap between them. I cannot for the life of me, do a CAR, but I have no trouble doing leg switches. What I do, is I tilt my wheight. I start with gemini then Sort of like into a reverse teddy, pushing my wheight to one side, then into a pike, still pushing my wheight to one side, making the one thigh push against the pole, and then I go into scorpio. I can do this both fast and slower and it feels secure all the way. You should be able to do it, even though you have beautifull slim legs. Mine are more slim, chicken like, so if I can do it, so can you 🙂

How you got into poledancing: Heard some random girl on the bus, talking about how she trained poledance. I had never heard of it being a sport, youtubed it and found tarakarina
How you found out about SV: After showing my boyfriend a video of tarakarina, he secretly ordered a pole and he also found SV and purchased the first year for me, because he knew I wouldnt want to dance in a class.
if you were a pair of underwear would you be a thong, boy shorts, bikini cut or granny panties: Bikini cut. -
Mighty grip is all I use, it is a wonder product to me. No matter what the weather and temp. is, it never fails on me. I have never ever seen anyone, including myself, leave a trail of white "smoke", but if that has happened, it sure does sound like its due to too much powder. You only need a tiny amount, and give it a couple of min. to get warmed up, then its sticky.

Welcome back PoleFeline 😀 If you go in to lessons, its the first that comes up, and then you can just click "see all" and start from day 1 🙂

I get where you are coming from, but most that I've talked to, and myself, didnt realize that this is actually hard work, its mostly "that looks effortless" or "it would be so much fun to spin and spin" – I had no idea of the strenght it takes, or the fact that this even needed research. The reason why Im commenting it, is because of the fact that this person is new and this is her way of doing research. 🙂

I understand you tallicachild, I dont teach pole, but when my friends are over, they wanna jump on that thing, upside down and I never allow that. However, I dont think it helps the poster to know that it frustrates you, its just the way it is, most that start out, wants to be up side down. All we can do is give our advice if we feel like it. 🙂
As far as the questions about tips, I have one. Wait awhile, purchase Veenas lessons, and go in her order. She really understands what needs to be learnt first. I think I trained for about 6 months before trying the first invert and I still after almost 2 years, work hard on controlling it. Dont ever jump, always tuck. 🙂 And remember, its not the goals you reach, its the journey that matters 😀 -
Tacha666 – Yes static makes a huge difference! I think it has something to do with friction. I never used to practice spin work on static, until I learned one-handed spins on it. Now Im addicted to getting every spin on static aswell. And great to hear that you had fun on static! Sounds like you are even more close o it, than you thought 😀 yaaay!
-
It really worked for me. Its also the way Marlo Fisken recommends and that girl can spin with one hand!
-
Its not stripperish, because of the siple fact, that you are not stripping 🙂 Thats the technical stuff. The feel of your style is sexy and sensual, but I think your husband, maybe confusing your style with stripperish, but really its sexy poledancing. Maybe he doesnt know the many different styles there is in poledancing. Just a few is sexy, ballet and trickster. I think you are a sexy poledancer, because you pay alot of attetion to the flow, slow movements and such, whereas a trickster would be more of showing moves after another, paying most attention to strenght and ballerina style is all about lines. I love your sexy poledance style, and I really dont see the stripper. Even if there was a stripper aspect, I say enjoy it. Strippers are HAWT!

The last 6 months, I've been working on one-handed spins. I would say, that starting on static, is the best and the safest way to learn it first. Spinning pole, takes soo much more strenght and I flew of the pole and hit my shoulder, the first time I tried one-handed, because I didnt start on static. The best way to start, is by walking around the pole, in a steady tempo, try making smal leaps, where you lift your feet of the ground, for like a 1-2 seks at a time, ontil you feel stronger in your grip, and arm(s) – remeber both sides. When you feel ready for the next step, try walking around the pole with steady tempo, and then tuck your feet and legs, and just slide down, with one hand. Before you know it, you have it on static. I still dont fully have it on spinny, but once I do, I'll let you kow how it happened 🙂 I think the last 5-6 vids on my profile, shows my progress on static, so feel free to take alook.
