Wikipole.org is the best site for finding names and pictures…

My loose organization methid is this
Beginners – tranistions, basic steps around the pole, floor work, lifts/kicks from standing, spins with leg grip, sit
Intermediate – spins that do not have leg grip (carousel, boomerang, chair etc.) climbs, beginner plank, cross knee release, basic inverts/poses
Advanced Intermediate : caterpillar, cross ankle, bow and arrow, reverse grab spins, split grip spins, corkscrew/body spirals, inverted combinations using basic inverted poses, spinning inverts
Advanced : repel moves, reverse climb, armpit holds, aerial inverts, shouldermounts
    Super advanced, knee holds

I categorize moves by what their next step would be and how they condition the body. Most students stay in the intermediate portion.

I have beginner, beg intermediate, intermediate, adv. intermediate, beg advanced, intermediate advanced, advanced, super advanced

Awww, that’s really sweet of you guys but I stole it from Anastasia Skukhtorova and her pole art video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-n4HfNoU54&playnext_from=TL&videos=AYVGFzhwdyg

I have an X-pole and I do love it for the winter, the chorme gets super grippy when it’s humid out though and I stick right to it.

In the summer I use my Platinum Stages Stainless Steel pole – in the winter it’s nearly impossible to do much when it gets dry out.

Most people prefer chrome, but I have found as long as you don’t us a lil mynx stainless steel pole, you may not find much difference between the two poles.

I’ve been spending a lot of time exploring wikipole.org lately and I saw the daredevil. Decided to try it out last night before I taught class. It was hot and super sticky last night which made it easy to hold the move. Got it on the first try. It turned out to be easier to do than I thought it would. I’m sure it will be harder when it isn’t so hot and sticky. Anyway just thought I’d share my experience.

I didn’t find too terribly difficult but I didn’t like the way it felt looking down at the ground and you have to be head first down…it made me very cautious of letting go. Sticky pole helps a lot, I’ve been doing it all over the brass poles at the studio – high humidity + brass = sticky fun.

Well done getting it first try, I had to situate myself quite a bit.

I know! A lot of people think they are ready to just start doing big tricks without even considering that they need to figure out how to use their body, move their body and build cooridnation.

I’m glad she loved the class and am happy she realized how difficult even the most basic level of dance around the pole is.

For someone who is around poles all day I find it hard to find time to pole just for me.

I *almost* get sick of pole dancing because I do it so often. On my days off the last thing I want to do is touch a pole so it’s a lot of forcing myself to work on new things, set goals and work on ideas for vids.

Even though I have a pole room, I still rarely pole when my bf is home.

    https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Congrats!

this was a move that I found MUCH easier from a climb than from the floor because your body kind of needs to sink into it.

I am sooo sorry, words cannot express what you are going through and I can’t imagine. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

As for returning to pole – dancing is great therapy and like Veena I suggest working on transitions and just dancing around the pole.

    FREESTYLE https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Not having any sort of background in dancing besides doing it in my kitchen…the freestyle works best for me but I suppose at this point I tend to do a lot of the same things in the same order.

a couple of things I teach my students that I hope you will find helpful:
    1. There is no right or wrong in pole dancing only safe and unsafe. only perform moves you are very comfortable with and not moves you are still working on
    2. Find a piece of music that really speaks to you, music you can get lost in
    3. If you get stuck for what to do and find yourself simply walking around the pole, pull out all those transitions, pirouettes, back bends, slides, kicks, step arounds
    4. use the floor, the wall and the open space around you and fill it with you!
