  • Hi pisces just curious when you injured your shoulder two years ago what symptoms were you having? I ask because I’ve had a weird shoulder injury for three months that I think was from using my gymnastic rings. Doctor just told me to take ibprofen

I was also frustrated when I would get the same response from teachers but now that I can do it (still can’t start with straight legs however) I kinda see what they mean. Your body is a lever in this move so yes tilting the head back does help distribute the weight since it weighs a few pounds. Things that helped me:

Don’t face the mirror while doing it
    More core work
Get the pole crunch down pat!! When I was struggling just to bring my knees to my chest, that next step of tilting back seemed impossible. Build enough strength so that conditioning move isn’t such a struggle anymore and holding your weight before tilting back doesn’t seem like such an impossible task.
Doing a bunch of pole crunches on both sides (holding onto pole and bringing knees up to chest) probably helped condition me for this move the most and one day it all just “clicked”

Have you gotten a second opinion on options? Btw was this a pole related injury?

Hi Veena I’m only holding my top foot sometimes bottom. I climb, bring myself to the side of the pole and hook my top leg while tipping myself sideways
With my bottom hand under my legs, then I jut out my hips or try to, and pull on the back of my top foot.

So I just learned the Marley and every time I attempt this move right underneath my ribs is painful for several days to the point where I can’t even invert anymore. Anyone know why this is?

I’m at 30 for lumbar and 15 for thoracic. So does this mean we’ll have a hard time with back bends like we can’t get the nice bendy back that’s needed for some moves like the ballerina etc?

  • Awesome I listened to everyone’s advice and I demoted my membership with the studio and have decided to take up studioveena. I’m hoping one class a week with the studio and studioveena to supplement on the days I’m going will be enough to help me progress? Thank you

Natasha Wang posted this article on her fb https://www.unitedpoleartists.com/news/2013/08/featured-blog-inspired-vs-discouraged/. It's a featured blog by Sparrowhawk Isis about how shes seeing pole morph into a competition of pole power moves and fonjis AKA a gymnastics showcase and less about dance and expression which is what she originally fell in love with.

Sasja Lee also made an interesting comment about the direction that competitions are taking:

Furthermore, besides politics, I believe competitions have taken on a different focus recently. I often ask, if one isn't a trained gymnast, ballerina, or contortionist, where do you fit into a competition nowadays?
