I hear a lot of different thoughts on the certs out there, so hopefully someone will let you know which one is worth the cost! Until you decide on one, and if you haven’t already, you could check out my teacher training manual its free and meant for someone in your position looking to teach others! https://www.studioveena.com/methods/letter

AdministratorOctober 24, 2015 at 10:09 am in reply to: joint hypermobility sydrome and poling? It’s not within my scope of practice to know if this come be “fixed” I would say it’s something to work around.
I would think that if you are diligent with form and focus on not allowing joints to hyperextend, you’ll be able to continue, unless this condition doesn’t allow for that kind of control? The body is amazing so I think if you’re aware anything is possible! Stretching should be done throughout the muscle and not just the joints anyway. That being said you will need to be very aware of form and not settling into the joints but staying active while stretching. I would say stay away from overspilts, I don’t like those anyway because of how harsh they can be on joints! So stretch to keep things equal and comfortable for you, not to contortion level.
I would avoid tricks like twisted grip and you might want to just a partial split grip or elbow grip instead. Spins may also be trouble some if you are not able to control how far the joint extends. There are still tons of things you can do even if you avoid theses moves.

Thank you guys, I’m happy you liked it!
Tropical I have never done corde this was just in our back yard off the tree house! My hands were so torn up by that old rope! I just took things I could do on the pole and hung from a dirty rope. hehe
This video is special and has great memories for me, the house we lived in was my favorite ever, and I loved the yard and the fact the we had a little lake, tree house and woods! I also have my favorite pole space with super high ceilings and room for 2 poles! The video makes me smile because my oldest, probably 10 at the time, did the recording for me. I told him where to go and he even got some shots from up in the tree house, we had a blast! The path you see me walking at the beginning and end became a cool slalom like path to sled down in winter! I don’t know if I’ll ever get over leaving that place….
I really miss making production videos like this.

It was great to see you there!

This video I created wasn’t for a challenge but I think it fits the Halloween and costume theme and I love it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-y39fGsqfk

Yay! That’s great to hear!

Exciting! Yes, feel free to grab anything out of the routines and combo section. There’s stuff in the quick lessons too. One thing I find most important in a performance is eye contact, or at least the appearance of eye contact and interest in the audience also looking like you’re enjoying yourself is really important! Yes, people love splits even if they are not full splits!

Always worth it and you can use them with the lessons here. Looks like rogue bands are just a brand name so I would go with whatever fits your budget.

AdministratorOctober 21, 2015 at 7:26 pm in reply to: Trying to get back into dance after surgeryIt’s nice to see you back!! Sometimes I feel like the queen of “getting back” on the pole. I’ve been off again on again since starting, what must be like 8 years ago! I understand the sadness and frustration of feeling behind or like you’ve lost what you had…but trust me, if you put your mind to it, it will come back!!!
One of the best things you can do is start from the beginning, even though I’ve been at it for years if I’ve had significant time off without any other form of exercise I start with the basics.
Also avoid looking at what you can’t do. It comes back and usually fairly quickly once you’ve already had it!! I still do the conditioning and strength work listed in the lessons. Don’t focus too much on what someone who started at the same time is doing either, you’ve had time off and everyones journey is totally different! You might wanna read the teacher training course to see more suggestions for off pole training, lots of other good stuff in there as well. https://www.studioveena.com/methods/letter
Try working on things you may not have before, like floorwork or low pole flow. It’s a lot of fun and usually no foot is needed!
Wishing you a very speedy recovery xoxo

I’m sorry you feel like you’ve been booted out! I try and stay away from FB drama, I hope they take you back if you’re looking to join again. I’d just try and join again, FB can be real flaky too and I’ve had friends removed and added before….but this was over a year ago.

I’ve got something for all levels coming😉

I will add this to the quick lesson list! However, I JUST uploaded the Remi sit which is very similar! The concept for the top leg is pretty much the same only the bottom leg is moving into a different position. It may help you figure out the pose. I will say if you don’t have the strength to also hold the body weight with the bottom leg, then PULLING the top leg will put a lot of strain on the knee!! HOLDING it for extra security is ok but I would not suggest it as a way of teaching someone who is learning it the first time, because they need to understand that the bottom leg is as active as the top! Does that make sense? Also flexibility and limb length will determine if they can hold while laying back! Once they understand no to pull on the top leg holding is ok if you feel more secure.
Here’s the new lesson Remi sit https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/5626bdc7-13fc-4ea9-ab76-74a30a9aa0eb
On an interesting side note: Once you get the concept of the Remi and Star gazer you can use a OUTSIDE knee pit grip for moves like the Orion! https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/52d4a79b-84d8-4cc2-9480-4bc50a9aa0eb

Have you all been enjoying the quick lessons? I’ve got some new stuff recorded and will start working on them soon! Don’t forget to let your pole friends know about all of the unique combos in this section from beginner to elite! https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view_category/quick-lessons

We have too much content to put on DVD and do not allow downloads. Have you tried to watch video here? If you’re able to watch user videos you’ll be able to view lessons. I’ve known many members who had their computer in a different room from their pole and still found the lessons very helpful. You could give them a try for 3 days free using this code GET3FREE. There are TONS of lessons (over 130) that do not require a pole but will help you build strength and flexibility!

In glad you know what’s going on now! Wishing you a speedy recovery! 💜

Thicker poles requrie more hand strength so this is why it feels so much harder. Any size and finish can be worked with, it’s just a matter of learning, adjusting or strengthening what you need to in order to work with that particular pole.
I’m not sure how long you’ve been poling, but keep in mind that most spins are not beginner level because of the amount of strength needed in the hands, shoulders and core. Timing is also important when doing static spins so that might be part of the issue too. So short answer, don’t give up hope, do some strength and conditioning for the hands, forearms and shoulders, focus on strength building pole work and you’ll get those spins back soon!
If you’re interested I’ve got lessons for both of these spins and for conditioning and strength work. If you’d like to check them out use the code GET3FREE for 3 free days access to the lessons. I know you’ll love them 💜

Bondage tape does grip super well! I’ve also suggested it (years ago) when someone wanted to have the grip of heels without the heels! hehe 🙈 If you have a sore be sure to cover it with a bandage first because the tape doesn’t breathe!!! Still the best thing you can do is work on your climbing technique!
-
I hope you are enjoying the take off program! Sounds like you’re headed in the right direction 😊😊
-
I think you’ll like the lil mynx, and honestly any finish can be worked with and the more advanced you are the better your ability to work with any finish, so you don’t need to necessarily upgrade! You may want a difference size/diameter pole just because it can be nice to try smaller sizes. Since you’ll have warm humid weather stainless should work well for you! When purchasing grip aids to reduce sweat avoid things like itac and . The are great grip aids but not meant for sweat! 🙂 Have fun with your new pole and take a photo with it for us!
