    The suggesting for the hand and elbow stands are to get your body use to the feeling of going upside down, a cartwheel is nothing like a handstand really. Just so your not confused about why I would suggest that. People who have never done much inverted/upside down as a kid, have a scary time with things of that nature, when they are older. I still say find a more understanding instructor. lol

    Thanks everyone,yeh I think my bodytype is close to a mesomorph. I’m tall and hourglass shaped but I can gain fat easy. I’m almost always on perminant diet so I don’t think I could cut back any more than I already do,unless I stopped eating all together! Yeh I prob need 2 do more cardio but most of my spare time is taken up with the pole just now. I take it things like going on the treadmill might help??? I haven’t a clue about cardio to be honest lol. Just hope I don’t get any more muscular in the arms! Or ill end up looking like a man!
    Ok wait, I never said to cut back on food or go on a diet……I said to eat a well BALANCED diet. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif Out bodies need food. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif If you eating as little as you say you are that can be a problem too. If you starve your body it will hold on to any fat you give it, (to put it simply) not eating enough can play a big part in weight gain too or not loosing weight. I just wanna make sure you don’t go starving yourself…..well balanced meals, 3 times a day, with 2 small healthy snacks. Cardio is anything that raises your heart rate for a significant period of time. Swim, walk, DANCE, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif those are all great for cardio. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

    I was wondering what a half spin is as well. Is that just a spin that you don’t take all the way down to the ground?
    Yep that is the half spin Kali.

    Also, what’s an example of a pose done on the floor?
    a pose on the floor could be a B hook and such.

    I’m still saying a pose is from the floor…and a hold is up on the pole to me. I was also assuming an inner thigh hold would mean without our hands (thighs only) but in the example she is doing moves that involve hands, so which ever way, I’m gonna go for no hands and pose from the floor. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Don’t stress to much about it, this is just a good place to give you all a starting point, don’t worry if the moves you choose are not the "proper" moves. Just do your best. I still have to decide on which moves I wanna do!!

    Awww don’t give up! It sounds like you just haven’t found the right gymnastics class. Starting with that kind of exercise is very scary for someone with no background in it…so don’t feel bad at all!!! Have you thought about working on some yoga, this can work well to get you in touch with your body and you can focus on balance too. Having good body awareness is key in learning new tricks, both on and off the pole, some have it naturally some have to learn. BUT YOU CAN LEARN. The mind body connection is so important. I would also say spending time working on elbow and handstands…first with the wall then moving on to the pole can be helpful, doing them often will help you become more accustomed to the inverted/upside down feeling. Our bodies are amazing and you have to learn to trust your bodies ability, once you do that the sky is the limit!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    I don’t know a whole lot about the new PS poles….But as far as space for dancing….A good guideline is to, hold on to your pole, then extend both arms out to your sides (so your making a T) If you can walk around the pole with your arms out like that and not run into the wall or anything else you have a nice amount of space. If you want to use a smaller space, it can work, but you’ll want to avoid spins and stick with inverts and moves that keep you close to your pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Good point amyxshi, here are some basic body types

    Endomorph
    * Soft Body
    * Underdeveloped Muscles
    * Round Physique
    * Weight Loss is Difficult
    * Gains Muscle Easily Like the Mesomorph.

    Ectomorph this is ME…..somewhat…I gain muscle pretty fast.
    * Delicate Built Body
    * Flat Chest
    * Fragile
    * Lean
    * Lightly Muscled
    * Small Shouldered
    * Takes Longer to Gain Muscle
    * Thin

    Mesomorph
    * Hard Body
    * Hourglass Shaped (Female)
    * Mature Muscle Mass
    * Muscular Body
    * Excellent Posture
    * Gains Muscle Easily
    * Gains Fat More Easily Than Ectomorphs

    Most people are a mix of these…everyone is different.. I love Pantera’s strong body type, but I know I will never have her shape.

    Well, It is true that if you have existing fat you wont see really defined muscle (you wont look cut..as they say). This is why some very thin people will look all muscly, but they don’t have a ton of strength, they just have low body fat. I would love to have more fat on my body, its not comfortable being bony, (I know most people don’t believe me) I liked my post baby body better than at the moment…after I loose all the baby fat. I say celebrate your FIT and SEXY self!! You can totally tell when someone has muscle as opposed to only fat and a strong woman is a sexy one. Now flex for us babe! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

    If you do want to loose body fat, (you sound perfectly sexy to me) try adding some more cardio in addition to your poling. A well rounded healthy diet is key too. Non of those fad diets, just a balanced one, and cardio, cardio, cardio.

    lol I like that book too!! So yes, your gripping in between the knees and back of calf and heel, engaging your hamstring, AS your pressing away and up.

    To move up…Try to get yourself into a ball at the top of the move, so press allllll the way up (get squishy)

    Then switch your grip to a elbow or forearm using the hand that was at belly or hip height (not the lower hand) lower hand stays. Keep your legs engaged and working while you make the quick switch with your arms!

    Then you can get your balance and slide the legs up the pole. Slide them up don’t just take them off the pole!!!! Maintain contact with the pole as they slide or you might fall on to your back (I HAVE DONE THIS) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif Repeat the process. The only time I have ever taken a fall off my pole was doing a caterpillar up be careful and use some cushions below. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

    These are not stupid questions…..I just did a lesson for each of your problems https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif They will be up soon. I even have an exercise that will help you work on your inverted crucifix position without having to invert. Charley has excellent advice https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
