I watched. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I am not a "believer", but I think that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about your actions….the only thing that matters is that your true to yourself and your heart is in the right place. Christians need to relax and leave the "judging" to a higher power. *steps off soap box* https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Keep on dancing JC https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

AdministratorDecember 1, 2009 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Things to know BEFORE you buy a pole!!!hey everyone! I am FINALLY getting a pole and have decided to go with the 50mm x-pole. Should I get it in chrome or titanium. I want to get the right material and they’re only like, 50$ apart so I’d rather spend the extra bit and get the better one.
what do you guys think?
I like Chrome, because the Titanium gold has more grip and I LOVE to do spins on static mode, so a really grippy pole isn’t as good for that. After you warm up your body and the pole Chrome is great, I like the silver color better too. LOL -
One year!!!! Wow, time really fly. Your year video was great too, Azriel. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

AdministratorDecember 1, 2009 at 12:32 am in reply to: USPDF March 2010 – Pro and Amateur NationalsVeena I’m pretty certain that March has both a pro and an amateur division. The pro being only for those who qualified through regionals or through last year’s event.
No I get that Empyrean…..I meant, I would think about competing in regionals next year. As far as I could tell there is no "Pro" division for regionals. I haven’t looked on the site about that yet but thats just what I have gathered so far.

AdministratorNovember 30, 2009 at 10:51 pm in reply to: USPDF March 2010 – Pro and Amateur NationalsVeena…if I’m understanding this correctly, entering the regionals is like entering the amateur at the comp in March. Either way your status is "amateur" and you’re competing to earn a pro status.
Just out of curiosity I would be interested in knowing the concept behind why they chose "pro" and "amateur" as the titles as opposed to maybe "elite" or something else?
Yes, I think that’s right….I think. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif but in March I believe everyone is "amateur" I don’t think they have a "pro" status comp at that time.
I too would like to know the concept behind Pro and Amateur, I just don’t wanna put anyone off by entering a comp that is really for Amateurs only, when I have a pole business. you know? If I were a new dancer, and I saw someone enter an "Amateur" level comp, who instructs and owns a pole business I would be put off by that and wonder what they think their doing. I’m probably just totally misunderstanding the whole category thing. I know I would have a snow ball chance in hell if I were to enter Pro. (not that I can anyway) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
But here’s the thing, I love the thought of performing I can get up in front of people no problem, but not competing, (a trickster… I am not) my mind begins to think..ohh..their judging you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif and its way to stressful to me. I have been working hard to not compare myself to others and I think this would be detrimental to that goal….for me anyway. Maybe it would be a good thing, I really don’t know. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I could go on and on with excuses, but it all comes down to I’m a chicken poop and I’m confused about the "Pro" "Amateur" thing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

I would like to try a 38mm, I love my 45mm you have a lot more control over your moves on a smaller pole, but there are some moves that are more painful on a thinner pole…I https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif would love to see the 45mm become the standard pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

AdministratorNovember 30, 2009 at 8:14 pm in reply to: USPDF March 2010 – Pro and Amateur NationalsI have decided I wont be applying, I feel really odd going for Amateur, I’m not saying I’m too good for it (trust me, I’m super amateur when it comes to competing in ANYTHING.) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif but, as the owner of a site, I don’t was discourage any new dancers from entering. I may give the regionals a go next year. I consider anyone who makes money off of their dancing as a Pro and in my mind that means instructors.

I teach the teddy from standing, that way you can really get your side/back across the pole, if your just trying to use your arm pit, it will be much harder than if you get your side involved. Empyrean is right about body fat, making a difference too. After I had my last baby I found that a lot of moves were more comfortable, but now that I have lost the weight, oooohhhh how that pit hold HURTS!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif There are a few moves out there that will just get less painful over time, like the knee hold too. I also find doing the teddy is less painful on my 50mm same goes for the knee hold. Keep working on it, as long as your in the right position it will get better, just keep at it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Yes PLEASE know how it goes Ottersocks!! I"m still unsure about the book myself, I feel it could have been written better with maybe some more info on the muscle groups, but I’m guessing maybe he was trying not to overload the average person with to much info. I really wanna know how it goes for you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I still have to tried the stretches myself, I just haven’t had a chance yet. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif

Everyone learns at a different pace and in a different way….it all depends, I mastered a cartwheel mount before I could do a superman! I do have my lessons placed in the order MOST would progress in, but there are always exceptions. The new lessons will help break down things even more, and I let you know what you might want to be working on before you try a move. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Don’t worry your not weird or anything, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif adding strength training move to your pole work outs can help you get some of those moves you find difficult right now.

REST!!! It sounds like it could be medial epicondylitis…..a fancy name for injury or over use of the wrist extensors. It could be something totally different too, but when you feel like you may have injured something try this.. R. I. C. E. REST, ICE, COMPRESSION, ELEVATION. You may have over used the muscles or cause a small tear. If you feel a pain while dancing and it doesn’t go away after you stop using it rest, rest, rest. If it continues to be a problem you want to see a DR. I will have some great exercises in the new lessons for helping prevent this kind of injury. Here is one of them you can work on once your feeling better

You can try massaging the forearm too….I hope you feel better sooooooooon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

When I lived in North Dakota and Minnesota I was affected by SAD, I found that once I had started pole dancing I didn’t have as much trouble with it. It would get pretty bad before that. Its funny now…I live in sunny California and I find myself really missing those cloudy days, all the sun is kinda annoying to me, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif but I wonder if I would get really depressed if I moved back to the clouds https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

AdministratorNovember 28, 2009 at 5:33 pm in reply to: I hate The Chair and it obviously hates me 🙁Don’t feel bad verucablue….I think people underestimate the amount of strength some spins require. If you don’t have a solid chair spin you shouldn’t move on to a Reverse grab, unless you enjoy injuries. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif but seriously, in my new lessons most spins will not be labeled as beginner, I feel too many use all spins as beginner moves, but really pole climbs, sits, elbowstands, and hold and so on…are much better for the beginner to work on. When your spinning your holding your own body weight AND you have added momentum to that equation, adding more weight of course. So don’t feel bad if you can invert but still have troubles with some spins. If you having troubles you may need to start working on some strength off the pole or with your pole. Spins require, hand, forearm, chest, upper back ab and a lot of shoulder strength. Also it might be helpful to take a look to make sure you technique for spins is good, if you don’t have the proper form down, you’ll begin to have troubles with the more difficult spins. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
A vid might be helpful so we can see whats going on…it might be as simple as you being to close the pole.

If your new to pole dance and exercise you don’t want to be working on moves every day!! Pole dance is a full body work out and you need a day of rest in between your work outs, to let your muscles recover so they can grow. Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t work with your pole everyday….I’m just suggesting you don’t work on spins and moves (inverts ect.) every day. Transitions, floorwork and such are fine, just save the heavy tricks for every other day, working on the exotic movements would be fine to do daily. If you push and push, you are far more likely to end up with an injury. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif So take your time and have fun. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Make sure you have lined up the Xs on the base of the pole with your little screw holes. Tighten well. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
