I think someone… was talking about someone else…. saying they were taking some free lessons at at studio…not here??? There are some free sample lessons at the top of the site and I have some posted to my Studioveena Youtube account. The lessons here are not free though, the site couldn’t be supported if EVERYTHING was free. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif I personally think the cost of the lessons is very reasonable, I have worked many hrs on them and I am continuously adding new ones.

Chair and Front hook are not beginner spins in my method of teaching, too much stress can be placed on the inside arm, because of the position of the moves.
As for the spinning pole, static and spin require 2 different techniques. I tend to steer dancers towards static work first. This allows them to have a good solid understanding of how to use momentum to spin your body around the pole. Some dancers dislike working static because they learned on spinny first and feel static was too frustrating to work with…I said SOME not all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif However, spinning poles can be great to work on your strength, because the "spins" on a spinning pole are really just holds! Both have good qualities, I love the satisfaction I get out of creating a powerful spin or pole move with my own momentum though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_dwarf.gif

Here is the video so you can evaluate when you can start working on spins. This is one of the guidelines I use when working with someone one on one.

I can’t speak for other studios but I do know many (not all) do teach spins as beginner moves. I do not!! The structure of my Lessons are all part of my Veena method. I have had far to many emails from pole dancers asking for help because they suffered a shoulder or forearm/wrist injury. Every one of these were beginning dancers and they were working on spins. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
I went into pole dance very strong, I am a personal trainer and had been lifting for yrs. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif I developed my method after having my 4th baby. I had been off the pole for months and had was too busy to exercise so it made me realize how demanding pole really is to the untrained body. I had to start at the very beginning! Soooo, I took a long hard look at all of the spins and pole moves and came up with what I feel is the safest way to introduce a beginner to pole. Its very important to have the proper positioning but without out the right conditioning you’ll be susceptible to injury. And that is why my lessons may confuse some who take studio classes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
Beginner spins are those where your body is facing your pole and using 2 hands, some reverse spins as well. Forward facing and one handed are all intermediate. One armed and split grip spins are no, no’s for newbies! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I tend to be a bit of a tomboy, and pole dance has really brought out my feminine side.Welcome to the site!! Come join us for Friday chat some time if you can. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif If you do go with a permanent pole covering up the holes really isn’t a big deal, unless you have hardwood floors. But ceiling its not a biggy.

AdministratorJune 21, 2010 at 8:03 pm in reply to: upper body vs. lower body proportion ratioDon’t worry about ratio…you’ll be fine! However….I’m not sure how long you have been pole dancing but, most spins are NOT beginner moves. As a new dancer, the focus should be on pole work that strengthens the body. This is how I have the online lessons set up. If your taking the lessons following the suggested order is very helpful in building up strength so you can perform pole spins safely and smoothly. There is no need to feel like you have to loose weight or change some portion of your body to enjoy pole dance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Clean the TG with Alcohol…..I had grip slip issues with my pole about a month after I had it….the weather was cold but humid and the pole seemed to grip and slip at the same time….almost like it was sweating. It didn’t last long tho.
AC will affect the poles grip…..AC tends to dry out the air. Also remember factors like your skin can affect the grip. I have dry skin and do NOT use AC so humidity gives me wonderful grip. I perspire just enough for skin to be moist but not so much I am wet with sweat. BUT if you tend to have oily skin or sweat a lot in humid weather you might slip. Things like Deodorant/antiperspirant will cause my poles grip to become poor.
I have dry skin, no AC and the 70s and humidity seems to give me super grip https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

The online lessons here start off new dancers with strength work first, then pole moves that build strength. THEN you get to spin….Don’t feel bad at all! Spins are not easy…I don’t teach them as beginner moves for this very reason. Give yourself some time and ask your instructor to give you some strength moves to help you. If you have a pole at home you could think about adding the lessons here to your work outs. Like I mentioned before I start you off with strength work and pole moves that develop your muscles so you can then work on more advanced spins and moves. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
