I wish I could help you……I can’t lift into the move either. I understand the concept of turning the hip ect…but I just can get my long skinny body up there. lol I had been hitting the weights hard but then August came along and all our weeks of vacation sucked my strength way. I can no longer hold the Iron X either. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif I plan on getting back into strength training this week now that things have slowed down. If anyone else has tips that would be great too.

I have 8 X poles totally and non of them have flaked…..as long as your not wearing tons of sharp things and rings that would scratch your pole the finish will be fine. I like chrome because I can never stick well to Stainless steel poles. If you have a chances to try different finishes I would. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Hi, Welcome! I love X pole 45mm …the Chrome finish is a great for new dancers, the Titanium Gold can be tooo grippy for beginners making static spins slow and more painful. Once you get a pole or even before…I have a lot of great lessons for all levels. They also include strength training work both with and without a pole! This will prepare your body for the demands you’ll place on it once you start to learn moves. I think there are some dandy studios in your area too!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I LIVE IN MINNEAPOLIS!!!!!! There a few studioveena gals here in the city. There are some bars that have poles and we go out from time to time and show them how its done. HEHE
One of my favorite places to hang out is in the city an area called "uptown" its very hip and has tons of resterants and cool shops. There is an exotic dancer store called "Venus" in uptown that has shoes and fun pole dance wear. There is also a State Fair going on at the moment, its a fun experience. You can see live stock, carnival rides, concerts and eat lots of fatty foods. LOL
Send me a private message if you would like to meet up sometime or if you have any questions. Nice to have you here in MN! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

No I wouldn’t start from a chair….if you do get up and can’t hold the position, you could possibly come down hard and fast!!! You could smash right into the chair again…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I always teach this from the floor. Remember the farther away from the pole like almost lying down, the easier it will be. If your sitting or standing straight against the pole it will be suuuper hard….
here is the lesson for the SM if your taking them online here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I don’t own a "real" crash mat BUT I HAVE ALWAYS USE MY COUCH CUSHIONS and my HUBBY, TO LEARN NEW TRICKS!
Mats are so important both for the physical and mental reasons. If you have a fear of hitting a hard floor you will not be able to give it your all to learn something new. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_shaking.gif
I wouldn’t attend a studio that didn’t provide a crash mat. If I were in a studio, I would personally prefer something even thicker than the pole mats that are sold at the moment. This is why I have not bothered to buy one. My couch cushions and pillows from my bed are much thicker and softer than any of the pole mats I have seen. I might not be aware of some great thick pole mats though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
As I say in the very first lesson…..ALWAYS USE A SPOTTER AND MAT https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif

I personally don’t care about the suggestive nature of the commercials, but what a double standard here!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

I am personally not a fan of the "prances" for preparing for Shoulder mounts. It doesn’t give you a feel for the whole move…..In the lesson I teach this move from the ground first. It reduces the risk of loosing grip and falling….it also gives you a better "feel" for the move as a whole. If your taking the lessons here it is…
http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2677
Also I teach the shoulder mount (mounting up onto the pole first) not the variation with the legs held out in a V…this comes later.
For grip there are a lot of options out there….I like the cup grip both hands above and behind the head, thumbs on the same side as fingers. I also like what I call the Veena grip. Same idea for the lower hand, but the upper hand…(the hand of the shoulder that isn’t resting on the pole)…that upper arm is extended almost fully and the fingers are on the opposite side of the pole. I use this grip all the time in my vids.
Place a pillow or mat under you….
Sit on the floor….The farther you are from the pole the easier it will be….so you really want to be leaning, not sitting straight up!
With the pole in close on the curve of the neck, pull yourself into the pole using your arms, there will be a lot of pressure, so it important to have the pole in the right spot or it will hurt even more. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
With one leg, lift the torso by press up and way from the floor
The other leg is your "lead" leg and it will point straight up and towards the pole hooking behind the pole at the back of the heel.
If your ready then bring the other leg up…..if not… continue working on lifting (NOT KICKING) that lead leg up to the pole using your abs
Its harder to do it from the floor because you CAN’T use momentum, but it will be safer and it will help you understand the mechanics of the move.
The lesson explains it all much better, but I hope that made some sense…… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
I’m sure others will add some great tips as well.
