AdministratorSeptember 9, 2010 at 1:26 pm in reply to: What makes us unique as individuals in our pole dancingI really do hate being so sensitive about it…..I think it comes from being the youngest in my family. They are all really talented (give us something crafty or artistic and we can master it) and one of my older sisters would sing a lot in church and for everyone’s weddings. We also both played flute. I really loved singing and playing flute but was always compared to my older sister (she was 10 yrs older.) I could sing fine (maybe better than fine knowing my views on myself) and would do some singing in school and church but I was always "just like Linda". https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif or I looked Just like Linda, talked just like Linda. Growing up as a "clone" of my sister I never felt like there was any thing unique about me. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif Once I reached my teens I stop singing solo in public because I didn’t like the pressure of trying to live up to my sisters talents. My whole family is a bunch of perfectionist. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif To this day I still have a hard time singing around her because I don’t want to be compared to her. I"m so silly!! I’m sure this is why I don’t want to compete in pole comps either…..I hope I didn’t over share and cause you to think less of me….but there is really no other place I can go to talk about this. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

AdministratorSeptember 8, 2010 at 10:09 pm in reply to: Just had my baby 2 weeks ago how long till I can pole again?I did not have a C section and it was a very easy birth. You need to WAIT!!!!!…. to start poling or do any ab work until you have spoken with your Doctor. Most Doctors will not understand how heavily we use our core in pole and may give you the go too soon!! So be very clear that this is strenuous and much like rock climbing and gymnastics (to give an idea of level of stress on the body) Don’t rush a C section. You’ll be back on the pole in no time Talk with your DR and most importantly listen to your body https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Sometimes I even take down the comments. I know there is a copy cat mentality and I don’t want to be thought of as one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif I feel like the dancer that has no style https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I need to suck it up and deal with it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I’m always told I dance "like Alethea, or Felix" I actually stopped watching the pros videos because It thought maybe I was "copying" without realizing….I don’t know. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif lol Some day I hope to develop my own style https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

MOTM has not really started yet….it was a something I posted a while back and should have waited. Once we finish some of the changes we are working for the site we will officially begin the MOTM https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Dez…This was a worthwhile experiment, this is a worthwhile thread, and we’ve all had something to learn from it.
I think the original post was fine…..its great to talk about these things. The problem comes in when we start using examples…..even if no names are mentioned it still is VERY personal to the one who knows its them. Think before you post…..and I’m not directing any of my posts to anyone person but all the members who use the site. This is a highly trafficked site and just because someone has never commented or posted here doesn’t mean they aren’t watching… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I know first hand what if feels like to be talked about in what can easily be viewed as negatively on a public forum. It’s really isolating and makes you feel sick https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif
RaquelleStarr, you didn’t do anything underhanded or wrong. If the vid with the most votes gets a spot, of course its going to turn into asking friends for help and support!! Hugs to you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
If we don’t like the way something is run/handled, then let’s address the issue with that person, or business. Don’t enter their comp if you don’t like how they handle things….don’t support/give money to an organization if you don’t like how they run things. Its pretty simple. IF you have your own personal studio or "cyberspace" to publicity post your thoughts that’s a great way to get your feeling across.
STUDIOVEENA WAS CREATED AS A PLACE OF POSITIVE SUPPORT FOR ALL WHO LOVE POLE…….when posting a new topic think…..does this HELP bring the pole community together if the answer is YES then go for it!

Oh E… I didn’t mean taller polers have it easier with this one….I meant its especially important for taller pole dancers to tuck (get scrunchy) otherwise the body wont have the correct P.O.C. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

We emailed each other a few times on YT when we were first starting out. Found out we had a lot in common so that was pretty neat! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif Wow does time fly…..

cardio is a big part for sure…you need low body fat to have the flat ripped look. For a flat tummy the Transverse abdominals are important to train. So moves like the switch (found in the lessons) are great for that. Here is a vid I did on tips for abs

get srunchy…..lol while in your pole sit make sure your tucking the body in and not straightening it up tall, you’ll get a better grip on the pole….its really helpful if your a taller poler. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I have learned that letting the sad feeling of "wishing" you could do this or have that… need to be kicked our the window!!!! LOL IF YOU WANT SOMETHING YOU CAN FIGURE OUT AWAY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN! Don’t get trapped in the "but if I only" thinking… take control and work hard for what you want with the resources you have. When I feel like everyone is better than me I stop watching others for awhile. Sometime we get so caught up in comparing our dancing or number of difficult moves against others……this can make some want to fight harder, but others feel down and defeated. Just focus on YOUR work and perfecting YOUR moves…..I have found that as long as I only compare my progress to well…MY progress then I see gains and feel good about things. We tend to be our own worst enemy….start looking at yourself in a positive way. There will always be someone better than you at something….It sucks… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif but once you realize that, you can let go and just worry about striving for you personal best!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif I don’t know if that was helpful at all but I hope so https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_albino.gif

Do NOT use lotion….you don’t want to slip and fall! You want your skin to stick. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif Most dancers have the opposite complaint not enough grip!I know at first it can be painful, but as you become more comfortable with the moves you’ll learn how to adjust the pressure against the pole and this will allow you to slide. You will also notice it burns less and less. You’ll also stick more when the room is warm and there is humidity in the air. Keep at it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
