I totally agree with you Cinara when it comes to the Aysha and strength. Also with the split grips, that bottom hand should not be taking much weight (if any) at all. I get emails were students have been taught split grips spins and reverse grab spins in beginner classes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gifand had ended up with injuries. I think people see spins as simple or beginner moves because they are done from the ground and not up on the pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

XLauraX, don't rush into one handed spins! These can be just as harmful to your body if your not strong enough and do not have the proper positioning as inverting can. I consider all one handed spins intermediate. in fact only a handful of spins are in the beginner section they are all placed at the end and most of them are half spins. You must build up the strength in the shoulders, wrist and hands before you fling your body around the pole. I know spins seem easy to learn but that does not make them appropriate for beginners.
Can you do a controlled Pole Hold for 3-5 sec's or 2 breaths?
Can you do a double Pole Climb?
Are your basic spins (ones done with 2 hands while facing the pole) done with control and proper scapula engagement?
When you can answer yes to these then you may be ready to start working on one handed spins https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

You should be!The girls did a fine job https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif and yes it would be crazy hard to get that many dancers to perform in sync on pole!! However, the manager or who ever encouraged them and gave the thumbs up for THAT show is not very wise!! They call themselves a CONTEMPORARY pole dance group, so WHY perform against dancers who do HIP HOP AND CRUNK?? Maybe I am not familiar with the show and they have all styles on? They did a great job with the abilities they had, being from what it sounded like, fairly new to pole. It was amazing that they were brave enough to get up there and represent! It was just silly for them to be on that show, but they did a fine job!
Getting on a show is about having the right manager and knowing the right people. They would have been better off performing for America's got Talent or a talk show in my opinion.
I think if these girls were on studioveena ( I know we would all welcome them if they were ) and had mentioned they wanted to do ABDC we would have encouraged them to go a different route so they could showcase their talents better. I hope to see them dancing again! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

AdministratorApril 15, 2011 at 8:59 am in reply to: being typecast as a dancer – advice please! Not sure I can be much help, I'm not a big time pro performing all over so…..I don't really think I have a style anyone expects from me? yes, no?? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif LOL
However, I try to represent most styles (I am not to good at just tricks). I do know that some videos/styles appear to be recived better by pole dancers here and YT than other styles. People who do not pole dance seem to love anything I do! In fact, my latest video most have not seemed to care for it. I really go through phases when it comes to how I dance, all depending on if I feel angry, sad, frustration…ect. Sometimes it will bother me when I put my heart into a dance and people are like…meh…but you can't please all of the people all of the time. I now dance, perform or post whatever I want for myself and if others don't like it…well….there is really nothing I can do so I try not to worry about it.
I guess what I'm saying is…dance for yourself and you'll never have to worry about what others think! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I am the type of person who needs some kind of daily exercise or I am crabby and depressed! Don't think of "rest" days as a day when you do nothing….you can have an active rest day. Work on some flowing movements on the floor and around the pole, stretch, (stretching gives me the same endorphin high as working out) and kind of cardio like walking, swimming or light yoga is fine too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Otter….the Veena grip is more difficult than the Cup in my opinion… as in, takes more strength at the beginning phase of the move, and its also much safer at the top of the move. The thumb is not in front of the pole, it wraps around, but knuckles are facing away from the body. It is also a pretty neutral grip, if you have the ability to raise your arm over your head…..no twisting needed https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I have a few grip variations in my shoulder mount lesson. I also teach you from the floor first so you are able to work on the mechanics and strength from a safe point. I don't like any of the grips where the arm is twisted, so I try to avoid them. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

HI! Welcome to the site! Runemist had some great advice for you. And yes, she is right, I do hoop, although not nearly as much as I pole. I have not hooped for months now. The warmer weather has made me feel like heading outside for some hoop though! Anyway welcome again and if you have questions feel free to ask. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

If your taking the lessons the Tuck Invert will help prepare you for Aerial Inverts. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4cbc4b23-b534-4d1a-9978-3b990ac37250

I tend to loose weight quickly once I start doing cardio so I also have to watch that I eat enough! I also rely on the smoothy and protein or energy bars. I choose ones that are high in protein and calories for after my workouts. If you find your gaining weight then you want to fine bars and shakes that have less calories. I found If I dance a lot drinking power aid helps keep me from feel sick after cardio.
Hey Hooked….I have a killer pole workout routine coming soon. We'll get those legs and abs in shape!

Pretty sure its a normal thing KaeliColette. The same feeling happens to me on days where I have done a lot of walking, like at a zoo or museum. My muscles don't hurt but I just ache all over (like growing pains) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Yes it will get better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Also something to remember…you'll be most sensitive to "pole pain" around your menstrual cycle.
