Hips over head, then lift the legs….that is the key for any of these balance moves. Finding the best hand placement when doing a Hanstand Press and Bending the knees (while feet are on the floor) for the Pencil mount are good tricks to try, allowing you to move the hips over head.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
If your taking them….

I have the vaulted ceiling mount for my x pole and love it. Makes it easy to put up and take down. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Its VERY important your being sure to breath (try making a haaaaa sound) when you're moving up into inverted positions. I think I talk about that in the Basic invert lesson, I know its in one of them if your taking the lessons. Holding the breath can cause these dots and you'll raise your blood pressure too!

If your not seeing any then its time to take a look at it. There are a few different stretches for the hamstrings in the lessons they are all in a row. Also be sure to stretch the quads as well.
Until your hams become nice a flexy you can just bend the knees as you walk your hips over head.

Well said Empy!

AdministratorSeptember 3, 2011 at 3:24 pm in reply to: handstands/elbowstands/iguana – flexibility issue?Yep you guys are right! To easily find a balance point you need to have the flexibility to get your butt and hips over your head. This goes for elbow forearm and handstands too. Strength in the shoulders, back and abs do play a part as well when your lifting up.

@ Cinara I thought you were clear.

Knowing how to fall is fine…practicing falling that i do not agree with. Cinara had some great tips.
Accidents happen on and off the pole its part of life. I never thought I would break my foot while walking into my garage or have severe nerve damage from banging my elbow on a chair while sewing! LOL
I include exits as part of every lesson sometime multiple variations and always encourages everyone to use those and not jump out of a move. When I rode horse and was in figure skating they never had us work on "falling" . Any sport I have done they encourage you to relax if your falling.

Learning to work within your abilities is always best…. start working on moves as low to the floor as possible and as slowly with control as possible https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Pole Dance should be fun, there is no need for everyone to perform every move out there. I agree that learning to "fall" is not a good idea https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Wow looks like a lot of great ones this month….trying to catch up on all of them. Here is a link to Just the Challenges for anyone who is wondering where to find them https://www.studioveena.com/videos/index/challenges

I also love stretching…but….have you tried the stretching routines on here at all? They are easy to follow so you could do what JeHanne suggestied and watch TV (this is what I do) or listen to music while you follow along with me in the lesson. Then you don't have to "think" about what to do next when stretching. Otherwise find a buddy, see if a friend wants to come over. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

In the lesson I explain how there is more to the Gemini and the Scorpio then just hanging from the skin of the leg. You need to understand the mechanics of the move. As other have said, the sides and back of the arm pit is also and important POC as you become more advanced you will not need the back of the arm pit.

I'll chime in if you all don't mind…. I was just thinking about this today.
hmmmm….My least favorite style is just tricks, so that's not me. I like watching other get their trix on but its not for me.
I do love the dancey/artistic side of pole BUT I'm not a trained dancer so sometimes I get frustrated with myself and would like to do more with it but can't.
Sexy Pole…. that is something I don't have to think about it just all flows and comes together easily and I really enjoy it, but yet I don't think of myself as a the "sexy" dancer. Not because I don't feel sexy but…..hmmm I don't know really. *sigh* I guess I feel like right now I'm having a pole identity crisis……
