@ Casey Kill, there is a lot of info on stretching and flexibility in the lessons here. I have individual lessons that break down each stretch and there are also 3 twenty min Flexibility routines. 2 for splits and one for back mobility. The "Getting started stretching" has all the info on how often to stretch as well as other info too.
You may find answers by simply reading the lesson description too, so check it out. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I would stay stretch to maintain while pregnant, do not work on gaining flexy. I worked to maintain, because your body produces relaxin, and this hormone makes everything "relax" preparing the body for birth. Some women can't even lift weight or walk because it affects them so much. I was not one of those who it bothered, but I still didn't do any flexibility training. You could easily go too far and injure yourself if your not careful. So its something to be aware of while training for flexibility.
Always talk with your DR, but chances are they wont understand how intense you'll be stretching. LIsten to your body always!!

Yep all of this is covered in the lessons.
Here is a demo video that will give you some idea of where your balace points are in the different "stands" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmIciddJyPY&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=12&feature=plcp

Athene30, I do not have a dance or gymnastics background.
Thanks guys, I still do not see myself as "famous", that's not what I'm working towards anyway. My goal is that everyone, both women and men regardless of age or size, are provided with the tools to allow them to enjoy pole dance!
You guys should look back on some of Charley's old video's, she has become such a fluid, expressive and controlled dancer!
Age is a number….. check out this woman who started hula hooping at age 55 and she has osteoporosis!!! Check out her video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic1EiT8N5eo&feature=relmfu

Hi, eva X, I didn't start pole dancing until a few weeks before I turned 30. I have 4 kids. Although I have not had the desire or time to compete, and I'm not famous, I'm proud of what I've accomplished.
You can do anything you put your mind to! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

A few easy tips:
Work on Elbowstands and Handstand against a wall.
Stay calm…the more comfortable you are in the pose, the less effort it takes.
Always BREATH.
Find a focal point.
Once you are able to do a basic invert, work on holding the pose while staying calm.

abcollin1, has some good suggestions! Sometimes our body is telling us we need to rest. Also take a look at diet and make sure your getting enough of everything as she suggested. Low iron can also make you feel sluggish. After a work out, make sure you are eating something, you need to replenish carbs and protein. If you feel your diet is good then seeing a dr would be a good idea. Your not pregnant are you??

AdministratorOctober 21, 2012 at 5:50 pm in reply to: Did you ever become stiffer dispite continous stretching?I have heard this complaint pop up several times before. The common culprits seem to be:
-Stretching too far
-Flexibility training too often (as in everyday)
-Flexibility training when the body isn't ready (not warming up enough)
-Poor Technique
For the purpose of the lessons here I use 2 terms. Stretching and Flexibility training.
Stretching is gentle and is meant to MAINTAIN your flexibility. And it can be done pretty much anytime. Don't bother using stretching as a WARM UP! Its NOT a useful "warm up" Plopping down to do static/holding stretches as a warm up or before working out, had been shown to do nothing. Stretching is a great after you've done your workout and would like to "remind" the muscles to lengthen and relax after all their hard work! These are done without pushing to the limit!, you are focusing on maintaining.
Flexibility training, you're using stretches to Improve flexiblity, like working towards achieving the splits. These sessions are intense and you are pushing yourself, there for you NEED a rest day to recover.
Professionals who dance, their bodies become accustom to the work load, and you may see them training everyday. But this will often come with a price as well, if they do not allow their bodies down time later on. Injury due to overuse is very common for pro dancers, gymnasts ect.
Our bodies NEED time to recover! I cover all of this info and more in my stretching lessons if you or anyone else is interested. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4dd66731-eab0-4b4a-aa13-41ad0ac3725
We are all different and some will find they need more rest and others can do with less. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

AdministratorOctober 19, 2012 at 3:16 pm in reply to: Waking up with a random song in your headI woke up this morning with the song Heart Alone, running through my head….the one where they sing "and now it chills me to the bone". I don't know why! lol
I once took an afternoon nap and had a vivid dream that the brakes on our pick-up truck failed….we'll guess what….later on that same day, they failed. AND it happened in the exact spot as in my dream. Thankfully we were just fine and ran through the light without anyone hitting us!
I see things out of the corner of my eye often, or I feel like I do. There are also certain homes or area where I just don't get a good "vibe". https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Pencil mount https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4d4ffed8-d100-4206-ac8d-194a0ac37250
Again, please remember the lessons are in order to allow for proper progression. The AKA names for moves are always listed in the Discriptions.

JhennD, All lessons are place in the order in which you should work on them. So if you can't do the previous lesson then you should not move onto the next. There are a few exceptions, because not every move is suitable for everyone. Also in the descriptions, I'll sometimes give you links to exercises you could work. In the descriptions I'll sometime include what things you'll need to know (***) before moving onto this lesson. Sometimes I'll say it in the lesson as well. All grips are covered in the lessons, and there are close ups of them as well.
We are always working on new and exciting things. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

AdministratorOctober 18, 2012 at 12:55 pm in reply to: I don’t go around very many times on spinsSpins require strength and timing as well as proper hand and leg placement. As you mentioned, you will find you'll have more revolutions around a smaller diameter pole. The more you trust that you can DO it, and have the right placement down, the stronger your leg and arm swings will be.
In the lessons I do talked about where your hands and body should be for each spin, and it's not just the leg the sweeps that help with momentum, but for most static spins the body will have to move in a direction away from the pole as well. Spins do take a of strength. If you can achieve 1-2 revolutions your doing just fine. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

You might already know all of this info on this vid but I'll post it, for others who might have the questions about spin mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtinAzp17s0&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=5&feature=plcp
All of the spin lessons here also cover using a spinning pole. There are slight adjustments you need to make. Like most everything, just keep at it. Imagine how slowly you move through water and try to translate that sloooow movement on to your spinning pole.
