Back when I first did this back in 2010 there was no name (not that I knew of anyway) the first time I showed it to anyone was at the Detroit showcase, and everyone wanted to know what that move was! lol I had no idea people would see it as something new, I’m not saying I came up with it, but I had never seen a jade transition into allegra before! Is this the move you’re talking about? 3:18ish OMG the poles were so slippery for me I thought I would die BTW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38UJvxdB8Hg
I start by holding my jade then reach gripping over the leg allowing the hips to open even more and lower down if you like. I also open my hips in jade as well, I’ve never done a squared split jade.

Omg! I don’t even know what to say right now, I’m so sorry to hear this! Is there anything we can do for you?

That’s great it clicked for you!! Sucks about the cyst, maybe it will go way on its own! My husband had one on his foot and was told surgery was needed, but it went away on its own!! 💜

Fully extend the arm means, to keep the arm straight do not bend the elbow or place the hand near the face, but extend it. It does not mean to reach as high as possible because that would then pull the scapula up and away from the midline of the body not allowing for full contraction of the muscle when you go to lift yourself. This is the over extending I show and tell you not to do in the lesson. Then I demonstrate neutral and they are fairly level.
Neutral is a starting point for all pole work and also proper form in weight training. As you said, pinching or pulling the scapula away is not neutral. The shoulders should NOT be up right by the ears! Let me know if that makes sense.
Also have you tried doing the Up and down and forward and back scapula exercises against a wall or on the floor so you can feel them move.

That’s great to hear the instructor offered an alternative!!! 🙂

If it’s a dance hitch kick, why would they be using a tg and not a split or true grip though? Some people may have pain in tg even if no lift occurs. TG is not right for everyone even from standing.

Hmmm, Saeth, hooking the foot is a beginner option. Pointing the toes is a GREAT way to practice climbing and it’s also great technique. I call it the Performace climb where you use the upper body as an anchor and then lift the legs, doing it this way would also allow you to point the foot more easily. The Basic pole climb is not meant to be easy or pretty, it’s a strength builder!

Performance https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/50fd8f5a-d024-4cbb-a4df-74830ac37250 You’ll see the foot is not listed as a POC in the performance climb 🙂

Do not Kick* lol not I not

I NOT kick into any move with a TG grip! It’s safest to work on twisted grips from and invert OFF the pole not kicking up to the pole from standing.

This is what pops up when you do a search for Pole Sleeves here. I would say for the price go for the silicone pole. https://www.studioveena.com/searches/index?s=Pole+sleeve

Poleisnewtome, you could try adding some conditioning and strength work at home to improve your progression! The lessons for conditioning, most strength and flexibility do not need a pole!

I have yet to try the Silicone pole but I do know you can’t do static spins on silicone. However the xpole silicone pole has spinny mode so you can still use that! It would be a great way to pole with closes on. We just added our new shopping cart to the site so check it out! https://www.studioveena.com/store/index.php/poles.html

Are your legs and pole super warm? If the legs are too hot and sweaty grip is difficult, if the legs are cool and your pole is not warm you will have issues with knee pit grips to. Just something else to consider. This is why I love powered coated poles, I can grip so much better in almost all types of weather.
Technique wise keep in mind that you need to lock into place by driving the foot down towards the floor and not just hooking and keeping the foot reaching towards the butt. You need an angle of the lower leg.
There are several lessons with knee pit grips and some of the tips are different depending on what you are working on. If you have video of yourself trying that would be helpful for us too. 🙂

Keep in mind that the lessons are placed in order and if you don’t feel like doing the 30 day program, try this. Pick a warm up or strength routine to start off with then choose 2-3 transitions and floor moves to work on and 2-4 pole move you’d like to try. Keeping order in mind and reading descriptions can help you chose what to work on 😊
