Long story short….50s were standard because that’s what we in the US and Canada saw in strip clubs, some clubs had even bigger poles made out of all kinds of stuff. But venders like Platinum stages who provided poles for a lot of clubs manufactured 50mm. So that’s what we who decided to teach it used, because that’s all we knew existed. As we started meeting polers from around the world dancers realized that the smaller the pole the more grip control and often more extension and mobility you can get out of a move. Pole companies are always wanting to sell more and introduce new product so now you have a selection. 38s are awesome, but my 40s are my babies right now.
I still remember when the first 45mm was made available in the US, I also remember being one of the first few here in the US to use the 45 TG finish 🙂
This was in Dec, 2009! -

Remember the terms DANCE, FREESTYLE, OR PERFORMANCE will put your video in a section where member can go view full dances. Clips are fun, but there’s something about sitting down and watching a whole dance (even if it’s clips put together) that makes for good entertainment and inspiration!
Please give your support to the members who put in the time to create these videos, I know how time consuming it can be! Great work everyone, I love seeing your creativity!!!!

Hi there! Three months isn’t a long time to have been poling, unless you have previous back ground in fitness or have been taking class several times a week this whole time, this spin is probably not appropriate for your level. A spin like this is an adv. intermediate level spin. It requires both shoulder strength and flexibility, and while less strenuous on the body than the reverse grab, it’s still not beginner level. This is probably why you feel strain in the hand/wrist.
You might want to ask your studio for an alternative for this spin. You’ll find tons of great lessons here (in progressive order) to help you build strength and mobility for spins like this. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons
As for tips: Static spins are all about timing so understanding which is the push leg and which is the swing leg is helpful. For this spin the outside foot is the push or in this case “planted” foot and what was the inside leg is the swinging leg, giving you the momentum you need and helping you pull away from the pole. Having the feet too close to the pole when doing static spinning is common, so make sure you’re not standing too close.
