This is a good idea!
I did 20-25 mins stretching yesterday after the gym, I don’t know names of stretches but I’ve been following a "set" that we do at our classes every week. I try to stretch every other day – every day if I get the chance.
I am already noticing the improvement in my front/back flexibility but my side splits just don’t get easier. I am going to try the V Stretch against the wall tonight as I think that might help with my inside thighs – they feel so tight!
I’m going to aim for another 20-30 mins tonight I think https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks Georgia,
It gives me something to look forwards to when I know what could be coming up next! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Just been checking out all those moves on Wikipole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Nice to see a fellow UK-er https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Welcome to the site!

I have been doing lessons since June and have learnt to invert safely already – we have learnt the basic invert and inverted crucifix, we are now doing pole sitting (which is already becoming my nemesis lol), thigh hold, and loads of spins.
I am much more comfortable when upside down so what I meant (I aren’t very good at explaining am I! Lol) is what comes next? When I’m upside down and in an inverted crucifix all we do is slide down into a handstand position and do different "poses"? When will we learn to put our hands on the pole and maybe take a leg off or something? (yes I am deffinately crap at explaining what I mean! Haha)
-x- -
She was quite strict I thought! I was glad to have Lisa back – put it that way!! Lol. I did feel like I’d had a good workout after that session though as she didn’t let us stop – AT ALL!
My legs were really battered the first few weeks, I had a constant bruise on my calf from climbing, the same bruise seriously lasted about 6 weeks lol. Do you have the Blitz boxing boots? I think these have helped with foot bruises! But I think when I get my pole at home I will mainly pole with bare feet – maybe some heels! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
-x- -
Yeah that’s why it’s so appealing I think, Lisa always tells us not to worry if we can’t do something straight away as there’ll always be something else that we will pick up really quickly – a bit like my V Sit/Wrist sit, I find that so much easier than sitting! Which just seems the wrong way round lol.
My little girl can do the basic invert and likes to try spins aswell. She can’t wait til weve got a pole in our living room lol.
Oh god I remember when Sue @ P4F asked us to invert on our wrong side! My ribs bruised so badly – I couldn’t get my head round where my legs went from the other side lol. I sometimes find my left side stronger in spins – even though I use my right side as my "good side". I am left handed though, well a little bit ambidextrous! So don’t mind trying things on my left side – I just can’t invert on it haha.
Speaking of bruises, I haven’t had many just recently! My skin must be getting a bit more used to it as I used to be black and blue every Thursday after our Weds class!
-x- -
No we don’t do it from a climb yet – we just pull up onto the pole and cross legs then move chest to the side and lean forwards a bit – which just makes my shoulder get in the way! – and then we are supposed to put both hands on our knee. Oh the pain! lol Just thinking about it makes me squirm a little!
The day I sit on the pole is going to be my biggest pole achievement so far I think. Everything else I’ve been able to do after a few tries but this is really turning into my nemesis!
How long did it take you to pole sit? Did you find it quite hard or was it just something that came naturally to you?
-x- -
Lol atleast I’m not the only one who likes to pole in the park! Love the vid!
Weve just got back from the park! There were loads of kids and parents there today though so only managed a few spins – small ones as the pole is close to the aparatus! I did some pole pull-ups aswell for a bit of muscle building. I need to find a new pole to practise on lol – might go and look for some traffic sign posts or something!
I was so determined to pole sit last week though and I just couldn’t do it – no matter how much I tried (and it was A LOT of times!!) I did get a bit better grip than the week before but I just can’t seem to push my legs close enough together – I keep saying to Knickers that I need her to physically wrap my legs in knots before I’m gonna do it! Lol
-x- -
Yeah we do kick up into a "basic invert" position (that’s what it’s called on wikipole) then from there I can do the inverted crucifix but then we slide down to put our hands on the floor and do different types of handstands (I’m guessing this is to build up our shoulder and wrist strength) if you look on wikipole it’s things like the "handstand with attitude".
Just read you second message – yeah that’s what I meant lol. I can do the "V Sit/Wrist Sit" – I did this first time! I think it was because it relieved the pain on the thighs lol. I think that is the only "right way up" move that I like at the moment. I love being upside down!
Our group started as quite a full class, weve lost 3 members and gained another 2 – one lady who wanted to go back a level as she didn’t have a lot of confidence in her class full of really good learners – so she’s joined ours and feels a lot more comfortable now!
There’s only 1 girl who can’t get up into the invert position yet – she tries every week and Lisa really helps her but it’s just not happening yet – I think this could hold us back on upside down moves! She ends up just standing there while we practise handstands etc. and I don’t think Lisa wants her to feel left out.
I would say the rest of the class is pretty similar – everyone has things they can and can’t do and I think we all learn at a similar level really (apart from the 1 girl I mentioned above).
Oooooh it is only 6 weeks til my bday! I can’t wait for my pole – mentioned it to my OH this morning that he may want to think about ordering it soon! Lol then he started reading over my shoulder and asking what type of pole it is!
We have actually booked a private session on Friday but there’s 4 of us going (including the no-invert girl!) so Lisas time will still be spread a little but hopefully she might teach us some new things – hopefully upside down!! Lol and I am SO determined to sit on the bloody pole this week – 2 lessons – fingers crossed!!

Hi again Debbie,
Well done on doing your butterfly on your own! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif and good to hear that you had a good lesson!
I am finding the pole sit so painful, I don’t think I’ll ever do it! I feel so much more comfortable upside down than doing upright things with a thigh hold! The handstand that Lisa taught us the other week (and said it might take us a while to learn?!) comes quite naturally to me, she suggested another type of handstand and I did that too.
Can you remember what level you started learning inverts holding the pole? You know like now we do "handstands" with our hands on the floor – when do we get to put our hands on the pole as support? I can invert, crucifix and then I have to slide down to reach the floor – when can I just put my hands on the pole and DO something? Lol (if you know what I mean?)

MemberSeptember 23, 2009 at 10:48 am in reply to: Pole dancing shorts. Help. Need your opinion 😀I would prefer the medium size I think but I only pole at a studio – when I get my pole at home I would maybe use the minimum coverage ones. I think – like some other girls have said – that all of the different sizes would be good for different occasions though!
Good luck! And don’t forget to let us know when you’ve got the product finished https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’m glad that I came across this thread as I’ve been looking for exercises to help build my ab strength and remember doing headstands when I was younger – controlling them on the way up with bent legs etc.
I am going to start trying them against the wall – as I do with my handstands.
Thanks for all the great advice! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

MemberSeptember 21, 2009 at 7:34 pm in reply to: Splits – Train One Type Before Another? Thanks for your reply https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I will give that a go next time as at the moment I’m holding for 30 seconds and repeating 3 times. I usually do my stretches at the end of my cardio workouts so when I’m at the gym tomorrow I’ll try the 10 second hold and see if it makes it any easier with the side splits https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

They look fab! I got some "Mrs Ward To Be" ones just like that when I got engaged to my fiance lol. I have a feeling they are from the same seller and they have lasted aaaaaaages!! Really good quality! Didn’t even think about using them to pole since I only get the chance at the studio or the park hehe.
-x- -
Aww congratulations! She is gorgeous! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Enjoy her while she’s so small – it won’t be long beofre she’s joining you on the pole! Hehe! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
-x- -
Hey! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Welcome to this fab site! I am also in the UK. How long have you been poling?
-x- -
Lol well I hope that you listened to her after seeing your pics! You don’t look old or fat to me hun, they look fab!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif The only place I can take pics is at the park! And it’s a skinny pole so I can’t even do a crucifix (not even an upright one – let alone an upside down one!!).
Wow I never realised there were so many different places to pole in Hull and surrounding areas! Lol. My dad works at a gym (well it’s a sports medical centre but I use the gym as it’s free hehe) and I’ve hinted to him that when I have been doing pole dancing for quite a while I’d quite like to teach it – at his gym! Lol he thinks it’s a good idea!! I just wouldn’t want to take business away from P4F after they have taught me all I know – if you know what I mean?
The gymnastics sounds a good idea! I have seen them advertised at Woodford as we usually go there swimming (even though Haltemprice is a lot closer! It’s just better for the kids being able to walk in and out etc!) so I will have a look around at prices! £30 for 8 weeks doesn’t seem so bad though! I will see if she fancies it! I used to love gymnastics! I only wish I could still do the splits! Lol.
Do you do strength training at home? I do but struggle for ideas without a pole. I need to focus more on my abs as they are the weakest part after being stretched so much through 2 pregnancies lol. I do my handstand practise and can see so much difference in my arm and shoulder strength – what kind of things do you do?
My OH thought your "pole cemented into the garden" idea is genius! He wants to do it now (I have a feeling this would be INSTEAD of my indoor X Pole though! Which I don’t agree to! Lol). Do you have your lessons in the upstairs studio?
-x-x- -
Yeah gymnastics could be a good idea! I think she would quite like that – are the lessons expensive at Haltemprice?
Haha if only my Grandad knew that his Birthday money from him this year will be contributing to my pole!!
I didn’t even know they did lessons at Purple Door? Lisa @ P4F had someone go to her for some lessons from Purple Door and she said she was really quite bad, throwing herself at the pole and stuff lol. How did you find out about lessons there? How much did they charge? I would quite like to try a spinny pole lol.
Yeah I got myself some shorts today from Sports Direct in St Stephens. I think they should be short enough for pole – but only Wednesday will tell! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Can’t wait to try them out!
Just been looking at your profile pics – did you just take your camera to P4F? Are we allowed to do that? I’ve never thought of asking but wish I had mine with me all the time lol.
Wow I can’t even begin to imagine the pain from an inverted thigh hold! Ouch!! I am already dreading the pain that this week will bring!! (Well I am also looking forwards to it – as no pain no gain!). I looked a right sight covered in bruises at the swimming pool today! I bet people think that my OH beats me up! Especially the pole burn on the insides of my arms – how could any normal person bruise there?! Lol
-x- -
Aww your son is a good age to be able to play around on the pole to gain strength! I’m hoping to teach my little girl the basics as it will really help with core strength and she doesn’t really have a hobby yet. She loves to sing and dance but we can’t afford to put her in a stage school or anything like that just yet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
I think your son is probably about as impressed as my mum! Lol everytime I mention pole dancing she changes the subject, I’m sure she still thinks it is seedy and I’m going to end up working in Fantasy or Purple Door! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Once I get my pole at home and she sees what it is REALLY about I’m hoping she might change her opinion!
We have just learnt the walking back running spin (I’m sure they must have more simple names lol) – a bit like a sunwheel? I really liked that one! We learnt the thigh hold for the first time this week too – omg the PAIN! I can’t sit on the pole yet as it hurts sooooooo much! I don’t think I’m ever going to do it!
We have a lady in our class who I think is in her 40’s and she is doing great! That’s what I think is so good about poling – it doesn’t matter what your age is you can still learn and still do it! It makes no difference if you are 18 or 50 – you all still learn the same way and usually at the same kind of pace https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Tired to get my mum to come……you can imagine her response!
Going to buy some new pole shorts tomorrow and I can’t wait!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Good idea!
I am following the Slimming World plan and for breakfast had: 1 Weetabix, a chopped up apple with a Mullerlight yoghurt on top with a few grapes.
I went to the gym at lunch so only had an Alpen bar for a snack.
For Tea/Dinner I’ve just had ham, poached eggs, slimming world chips and peas – yum!!
-x- -
I wrote a really long reply earlier at work and then it made me log in again – and it disappeared!
Anyways…..what my post said was…..How cute that your little boy practises the splits and handstands with you! How old is he? I was teaching my little girl (she’s 6) how to do handstands against the wall yesterday – bless her she was trying so hard but didn’t have enough power in her kick to ger her leg onto the wall. She still practising though – never gives up https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Lol @ your hubby going upside down first time, my fiance tried to go upside down at the park last weekend when I was practising some handstands – he said it looked easy – so he had a go and bruised his ribs lol. Now he knows why I’m always black and blue! AND he can start appreciating that it isn’t easy this pole dancing lark! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I think my OH will want to go on my pole when we get it. He says he won’t but I showed him Jungle Cat’s vids from on here last night and he was impressed! He didn’t realise it could be such a masculine thing I don’t think!
I have tried both the 45mm and 50mm poles at the studio and 45mm is so much better for spins and hand grip isn’t it – it’s just harder for leg grip! I think I will go for a 50mm when I buy mine, I need more to grip on! The firemans pole at the park is the same as a 45mm so hard to practise climbing moves on.
Aww you never know – you might gain a bit more confidence and join us in the show next year?! I don’t for 1 minute think I will be really good by then – just a bit better than now I hope! Lol. What sort of things are you learning now at your level?
-x- -
Wow that sounds cool! What pole have you got in your house? Mine will be in my living room too – nowhere else to put it but I don’t think that it will stop me using it – my little girl already wants to learn! lol.
I know what you mean about the practise sessions – I didn’t really know what to practise but got a bit of inspiration in the end lol. I just can’t wait to pole at home! I pole at the park at the moment – the only place I know with a firemans pole!! Lol
-x- -
Oh wow you are pretty advanced then?! We are only just on level 3 so not in the show but hopefully will be next year! Are your one on one lessons with Emma? We have booked a private session with Lisa for a couple of weeks time. I like going to the practise sessions too just for a bit of extra pole time!
Do you have a pole at home? I am getting one for my Birthday in Nov and can’t wait!
-x- -
Thanks ladies!
I have just got back from the gym so only just seen your replies! I didn’t stretch at the gym just incase someone was going to tell me it was a bad idea! I will do tomorrow though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Good tip about getting a warm bath before stretching! Sometimes I want to stretch but don’t really want to do the whole warm up thing if you know what I mean? So that is really good advice https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I’m glad that it is ok to stretch everyday, I feel like I need to up my stretching time now as I can see a slight improvement just from our classes!
Thanks again ladies – I love this site https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
