Looks sort of like what I’d call a Brass Monkey, but your arms are wrong for that. How did you get up into it?

Microfibre cloths work well too when you’re wiping the pole down.

And what is this rubbing alcohol I hear everybody going on about? I’m in the UK – is it an american thing? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I also read the question that someone asked and the seller said if she sends a medium and they don’t fit she can change them for a large or small! That is good to know because I do like to try before I buy! Lol.
    -x-

That might have been me asking https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I couldn’t decide what size to get and the seller told me that the medium were about a size 12 but they had been told in the past that they came up small so they were happy to change them if the sizing wasn’t as expected. We like helpful sellers like that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

thanks for this post! (and the replies too!)

I have been using two pairs of Primark knicker shorts (dunno what they are really called but they are in the ladies underwear section and they look like shorts!) I have to wear two at once or they are erm.. see-through but the Ben Dover once look just sooo much better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I like the design on the back of them as well https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Don’t know how long it would last once you start washing them like……

Not thought of using underwear. i wear two pairs at the moment – I wear Thinsulate underwear shorts and then baggier ones on top but it’s all abit bulky round my waist. I just don’t have the confidence to do the tight shorts thing yet – hopefully it will come one day! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

You know I’ve been looking for decent pole shorts in the UK for ages. They seem to either be too short and tight so they’re more like booty shorts and I’m not really comfortable showing my bum off (yet!) or too slack round the legs so you show everyone what you had for dinner when you do an inverted V.

There are some of the pole schools that sell their own shorts but I think they are quite expensive for what you are buying. If you type in Ben Dover on ebay, they look like quite good shorts (althought I have yet to buy them – am intending on doing that), tight but not too tight and short but not too short if you know what I mean! I think they are around £10 plus postage.

Other than that, I’m no use to you whatsoever https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

The other way to loosen these is to put those tightening bars in and then brace one against the floor and give the other a smack with something to shock it into turning – rather than just trying to pull on them. This seems to work for me.

    Hope that makes sense.

I can’t see the picture, but how is a size 12 plus sized??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif

About your shorts, I combatted that by getting some really tight shorts to go under my proper shorts – I’ve had many a girl show me what she has had for her dinner in classes and really didn’t want to do the same so I found that short tight shorts under my normal ones has solved any worries I had about showing off more than I wanted to.

And don’t worry about what you look like hun! You’re profile picture looks great – even though you might not want to believe it yet. And the more you pole, the better it becomes – I used to have quite a flat tummy in my late teens, early twenties, but as I’ve got older it has got bigger (along with the rest of me lol) but I have noticed a change since I started poling a year ago. The change has been really gradual, but it is getting better and I am much happier with my body now than I was this time last year.

I don’t drink coffee, but I do drink a lot of tea throughout the week – wonder if that has the same effect? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Woo-hoo!!!!!! I got the split grip ayesha a few times last night at class – held it once, by resting one of my legs on my top arm but am most happy with me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Thanks for all the tips on here. I now need to work on the swinging legs like Dayanara – it seems to me my bum is too heavy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif and tries to go off to one side. Mind you, I think this is all about working on my core and getting that strengthened.

It’s so good when you nail something new isn’t it? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

There is Adam J in London who runs PoleFX – http://www.polefx.com. I know they are central London, but wouldn’t be able to tell you what line he was on.

I think it’s best if you work on your forearm grip aysha and the caterpillar before doing the elbow grip and split grip aysha, just so you can built strength in your bottom arm and practice balancing your body when letting go of the pole with your legs.

Do you have your usual dominant arm to the bottom? My problem seems to be that I caterpillar up – get the elbow grip and my positioning all right and every time without fail I slide back so my body is up against the pole. You think it’s probably just a case of building up some more strength in my arms? And that grip hurts my elbow – am presuming that’s normal tho because every pole moves kills when you’re first learning it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif

I found that if you don’t let your arms drop too much it is much easier.

My pole teacher gave me this as an exercise: climb the pole, do a pole sit, holding with your hands, release the sit and bring body to the side of the pole, engage the abs and bring your knees up to your elbows as many times as you can.

What yogabeachbabe says is a good idea and that is pretty much how I learnt – I started by doing the pole sit and then bringing my body round the pole and using the inside foot against the pole to just give myself that initial push up. I could only get my foot on and then use that to pull myself up at first, but it gets easier with practice. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thank you so much for the tips on these grips. I tried them (again!) last night, but I just can’t seem to get it. I get upside down and my brain empties on to the floor https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

If anybody wants to do a tutorial – making it an idiots guide to the aysha and the different grips, I would be eternally grateful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have problems with this move as well – I’m doing it with the split grip as I have yet to be taught either elbow or forearm grip. I get my body lined up straight with the pole to take my legs off and as soon as I start lowering my legs, the weight of my bum swings me to one side! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I can’t seem to keep myself in line at all.

And then there’s the grip! I’m so worried about my grip going that i am nervous about taking my legs off. I have managed this a few times, but seem to forget how to do it every time I go up to try.

Has anybody tried gloves to help with the grip issues when trying initially to learn new moves? If so, are there any you would recommend?

Sorry I’m no use to you on this one but thought it worth adding my twopenneth as well https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif
