I went to a club in Miami and all the dancers were doing insane balances, like handstands and holding headstands. I saw this one girl hold “bird of paradise” in her flippin stilettoes. Some girls are contracted to stay fit,so they do yoga, Pilates, anything that keeps them working and making money. Its all athletic. NAKED OYLYMPICS LIKE THE GOOD OL DAYS lol.Women just can’t express their sexuality without society shaming her for exposing her ankles.

Just to throw some more perspective into this big stew of stripper vs. Good& Evil. I like strip clubs, tried stripping for a little bit, didn’t like it, end of story.I started poling as a hobby for a few years before I decided to give the club industry a try. Prior to being there, I used to feel the need to defend who I was as a “baby” poler by creating a separation between me and strippers. I used to feel it was necessary to make the distinction and would talk about strippers like they were a separate species. I regret ever thinking separation was the best way to “uplift” the pole community image. Years past and I realized the Diversity in this community, and the beautiful and variable of people that tried dancing as a career, and that my efforts can be counted as hypocritical because I was not doing any uplifting at all, but shaming members that essentially MADE this community. That’s what community is supposed to do, COME UNITE! The comments I have read below seemingly are disappointed in this #hastag Periscope #wtfsocialmedia, so therefore I will not try to find it. I’m over the divide the comments, the shame, been there, heard it already, sorry I’m not going to entertain it. I choose to direct my gaze somewhere positive… and I love the term Visual Diet and will be using it for now on when referring to media influences. Unfortunately Still till this day, I will admit I am selective about my usage of the word stripper. sometimes I cringe when I hear strangers use it. I feel that I have to be selective with using the word stripper in my language because for some people the idea that the word stripper, is a title and is not limited to a stereotype but a label that includes a spectrum of people, lifestyle, and culture could possibly be far to complex for some people to accept. I hope any bothered by #wtfwasitcalledagain will remember to surround themselves with something that makes them feel good and pay the haters #nofucksgiven 🙂

Navinah there is not a welcome that can compare to being a part of the pole community that you are about to receive. I remember when I first welcomed pole into my life and the fulfillment it gave me. I felt like the longing to express myself had finally manifested itself. It’s an incredible feeling, the rush and satisfaction of achievement whether it be a new move or the way your body looks. I will continue to pole until I physically cannot pole no more, and you will too, because you’re already falling in love. I am extremely happy to say welcome to the community, if you stick with it you will continue to transform physically, mentally and love your body and all its capabilities.

My advice is make a list of at least 5 challenging moves to execute and don’t move on until you can do each one (both sides)at least 3 times consecutively. Lastly, FREESTYLE. Freestyle FREEEEESTYLE. You will gain stamina and discover combinations but most importantly you will develop your style. Good luck on your pole journey and may it be beautiful.

At festivals I hang my lyra in trees. I purchase most of my hardware at Lowes the hardware store, its perfect for buying rigging materials, caribeaners, straps, rope, pulleys etc. Also if you know someone with an old swing set you can use that as a free stand.

I learned in a class on social media and mediated bodies that “looking” is a practice, and our perceptions are conceived around where we choose to focus our gaze. A child doesn’t understand what something means to have a stigma, and no matter what you choose to do in our lives, there will always be someone who opposes what you do. The only answer is to educate, and keep it moving, continue doing what you enjoy doing, as long as it’s not detrimental to you or others around you…what’s the problem. Latoya….no…just no. By the time that 4 year old is an adult old enough to decide what she wants to do with the skills she has been given, she’s gonna be a beast, and probably will have cross disciplined in other things that aid in pole dancing, maybe she will be strong enough to compete on an Olympic team, maybe she will have the privilege to perform in a prestigious performance company….but anywho, we all know that if maybe we had the opportunity to learn these skills at such an early age we would be even better people today. But ultimately what I’m trying to say, is more people are starting to realized there is no reason to discriminate between a gymnastic horizontal pole and a vertical pole. There will always be someone with something stupid to say, direct your gaze at the positive. if you continue to look for oppositions on pole dancing it will only continue to be a let down, dont add fuel to it, let it die surround yourself with like-minded individuals.

You could always try your local home depot or Lowes. If your not sure how to install them you could use transparent L shaped holders and you would need about 4-6 of those

the feminist comment wasnt a personal attack on character, and everyone is entitle to their own opinion. there are just so many forms of feminism that it cant be vaguely described. im a burlesque performer and have recently tried bikini dancing and im not ashamed of admitting that im a feminist nor that i dont care if ppl see my naked body, im from the carribean where women walk around topless and nobody gives a shit. just generally speaking, im just a big advocate for grown ass women expressing their sexuality/emotions/pride with their own body in whatever way they feel empowers and satisfying to them. i seen the tip drill video about 10 years ago when i was a teen, it was like watching porn. now i just think..well these women arent slaves they certainly didnt do it for free, this is no different than what happens in some strip clubs, or in porn. pornography is a legal occupation they didnt have to be there if they didnt want to. and nelly probably didnt make this video with the intent to please all his female friends. but imagine if the roles in that video were reversed..lol imagine how ppl would react. i guess im just not really bothered by explicity. im sorry if you felt that it was a personal attack, you cant necessarily interpret tones and expressions of feelings over the internet, but i am a very opinionated individual and i say how i feel.

the video could have been cooler i wish they were in an actual club and made it rain. as for the song, it is sexual and about being in the strip club…idk why anyone is surprized at the way it turned out, what did you expect, rihanna fully covered head to toe? feminism is not about women being in control and ruling over men, its about equality for everyone. i just find it so hypocritical that women who pole dance are completlely upset by the way it was portrayed or try to separate themselves from exotic dancers, however they want pole dancing to be accepted but wont accept stripping as an honest occupation. how is rihanna expressing her sexuality a bad thing, what wrong can come from it…more women might do it??? if more women do it, it must be because they feel empowered and in control of their own body and sexuality. how can you expect people to respect your expression of sexuality if you wont do the same for others. twerking, or moving your hips, jirating, is not bad, your eyes wont explode…its kinda how we all got here
and for the person who made the comment about the carnival festival…shame on you for making a mockery of someones culture, including mine. we are all grown ass people, whats the big deal?

    im 22

ive been pole dancing for about 2 years. but i first became interested in pole dancing after hearing about a women who owned a studio in seattle on the news back when i was 13. seems a little contraversial for a minor to be interested in pole dancing, but i didnt see anything wrong with it. the instructors were all wearing tank tops and leggings but were doing really cool tricks, and i just thought "woah i wanna go upside down". from there, i knew it was something i wanted to try or have in my home when i became older. as i got older and puberty came and left i developed insecurities, ive always had a weight issue but it wasnt until highschool that i engaged in unhealthy restrictive eating and over exercising. in other words i had an eating disorder because i always felt like my weight made me unattractive. and anyone who has had anorexia nervosa knows it doesnt really go away. Finally, freshman year of college, a bad breakup sparked this incredible impulse to do something for myself. i had just enough money saved to invest in my own pole. and boom. thats what i did. i purchased my own 45mm chrome x pole and we have been in love ever since. pole dancing has heeled and mended wounds no man, woman, medicine, exercise ever could have. not only am i a healthy weight, i could careless whether i gain or lose. i know how special i am. how beautiful, powerful, and strong my body mind and spirit has become. it has motivated me to become more knowledgable about nutrien and the human anatomy, continue my dance education. and even push myself to being successful in school (i made dean's list lol) so that one day i could become apart of a team of pole enthusiats and spread the joy. i honestly and truthfully believe it will change the lives of any women (i am a woman so i speak for women) for the better. it empowers them to embrace their desired sexuality and femminity in which we are taught by society to suppress, and express themselves in a safe, non judgemental environment, and really channel the energy of they inner goddesses they are

im feeling like ive been stuck, its almost 2 years and im so anxious. i feel like i should  be doing handsprings by now…and i cant, i see ppl who have been doing it for only a year and are doing amazing stuff idk what it its. i used to attend a studio that is 2 hours away, but…its not worth me traveling so far for the experience that kinda feels like im being intrusive. all the other girls are aquainted with each other and address one another by their name. but its obvious on how much i miss out, events, competitions, showcases, and valuable studio time. it sucks living in the boonies. i can do some advanced moves like teddys or reverse v… but lately ive been so frustrated that i cant do a stupid basic butterfly

well…maybe im wrong, but i for one have been told that im a person that has too much faith in humanity that ppl will always do the right thing. but maybe this women (im assuming is a woman) is genuinely interested in pole dancing herself. maybe she has seen a few of your videos and thought you were talented. to be honest if you post anything of yours on the internet ppl will see and might want to use it. nothing on the the internet is really private. but maybe you should message this person. her English might not even be broken, she might just speak in a strong Australian dialect,

if your intuition is telling you, they might just want you to perform on the show to make fun of you, or disregard your interest as being presented respectfully and honestly…dont do it. But, im not sure of what show it is, but if i had this opportunity i would approach simply stick to althletic sneakers or bare feet and yoga pants. leave the lingerie at home, though pole dancing has a sexy side, i believe theres a time and a place for such things, and lastly, stay away from the reoccuring pole dancers vs strippers debate. we pole dancers know the amount of athleticism that is involved. but its not worth accidently offending the erotic dancers within the pole dance community we know we are all equal as athletes but its exhausting to try and defend everyone, so just avoid it all together if it comes down to it

ok..i think i can deal with risking hitting my shins, that does make it less intimidating, i guess its best to use slow and controlled movements, but maybe for my first time im gonna prepare myself with extra padding, some soccer shin guards and some pillows if i fall. lol
