i still don’t mind the idea of online voting in certain circumstances. it is unfortunate that this event came off with appearing to have a boatload of technical trouble https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
given that this is what happened, how can anybody REALLY know who had the most votes ? hmmmmm again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Where are the 12 finalists listed? I’m not finding it.
uspdf says the 12 will be listed soon…..
-
hooooooo doggies ! now this is gonna get a weeeeee bit more interesting, i think…..
not sayin i have all the details, but if i look at things as they are right now, the uspdf site shows voting closed with alicia’s video getting over 52% of the vote. however, shelly is the 12th finalist… don’t get me wrong — i don’t begrudge shelly her spot one bit !! i just don’t know how the math added up. if there were other criteria used besides the online vote, i didn’t see it published anywhere….
things that make me go hmmmmmmmmm https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

awesome ! now…. if i could just get em to print my studio’s logo…. (go to http://www.thegirlspotct.com if you are curious… )
well done, webby !!!!

so much food for thought here… personally, i kind of like the fact that uspdf chose 3 finalists from whom the public could choose the 12th. i find it fun. and you know what? even if it IS somewhat a popularity contest at this stage, so what ? all 3 of those girls have something special to offer !
and while an open discussion here about the idea of online voting is a great idea, i have to say i didn’t feel good about the tone of some of the statements. yes, let’s talk about this stuff. yes, let’s have preferences. it’s all ok so long as we’re keeping in mind that sometimes when we write something, it can come across harsh, whereas if it was spoken, the message might sound completely different.
i didn’t particularly feel anyone was being bashed, but then again, if i were reading a community forum and KNEW i was being referred to, only not by name, i might feel a bit defensive about it…
i dunno girls….. i just want us all to play nice together !

the original question was not intended to insinuate that anyone should have a crash mat in lieu of a spotter
agreed, empy. i didn’t take the original question as an insinuation, but after i read my reply it seemed i came off as condoning the use of just crash mats and not both. NOT !! wanted to make myself clear…
-
and after reading more of the threads here, i do have to qualify my stand on crash mats somewhat : they absolutely are not a stand-alone solution, and spotters MUST be in place for students learning new tricks ‘above ground’. but still, there is something psychologically comforting for some about the crash mat that enables them to ‘go for’ tricks they might ordinarilay hesitate to try….
-
i am a FIRM believer in crash mats, and have just acquired our first for our studio. we will acquire anothe 2 shortly. i also believe the thicker, the better ! we would have preferred 6", but found a terrific deal on 5" mats at yogadirect.com. HIGHLY recommend for any studio offering more than just basic spins !!!
the response from our students has been gleeful overjoy !

hahahaha that is soooooo cute ! he is sooo happy looking, too !

to me, they run small. i’m normally a 6 or 6.5. i bought 7s, and they are almorst the right size. if they had 7.5 i would get those. to me, ellie’s are a more comfy fit. i think the toe part of the pleasers is a bit narrower than the ellies, which i think contributes to the ‘toes hanging over the edge’ thing on the pleasers ….

at our studio 2 of the poles are spinny, so that as students advance they have an option to also learn spinny.

we are a new studio and so only just begun to host workshops. and what a great place we started ! just last week amber richard conducted 3 of hers: conditioning & flexibility, choreography and polished pole. we had multi levels of ability present, all of which she addressed. and all levels were able to come away with having learned something. we can’t speak yet about any of the other workshops, but can totally recomend Amber’s !

well, since my boobs are 52 years old and several degrees south of where they started, i would like a pole bra that lifts em up, doesn’t push em under my chin, and holds em in place (maybe more generous cup cut?) when i invert. and i LOVE descalzada’s idea of some kinda unitard-type thingy that exposes your side skin whilst tastefully draping the front tummy bits that have seen better days…. for me, that idea would be nice as a kind of bra-top (like victoria secret’s ones). and that’s my 2 cents ! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Seriously though even if you’ve been in the business for awhile it never hurts to learn all you can from those who’ve been doin it for awhile too…it’s about offering clients the best you can and learning from multiple sources will help with that!
hence the fact that AFAA, ACE, etc etc etc all REQUIRE continuing ed credits to maintain certs. gotta stay informed !!!

i am so happy we older polers have each other ! not that the young’uns don’t support and encouage us — they are wonderful — it’s just impossible for them to truly come from the same place as we do https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

well how ’bout that…. this is exactly where i am at the moment, but unfortunately, i ain’t all that advanced !!!!!
