I’m taking an informal poll and want to hear opinions on this subject:

How important is it for your studio to have spinny poles?

Personally, I get EASILY dizzy (just found out that I may have Benign Positional Vertigo–have been weirdly dizzy for 4 days now!) and NEVER put my xpole on spin and wouldn’t last half a second in a spinny class at a studio. Does the studio you go to have spinny classes? Do you think that spinny is a natural next step after intermediate?

Well, I think that students can do well on either because it really boils down to what you are trained on using. Lots of club dancers begin on spinners and acclimate to it and some schools even start you out on spin. But if you aren’t comfortable with spin you might not feel good about teaching it. Personally I would like to have the option to go spinning because eventually you could teach special workshops on it or have special guests who do well in spin come and teach. Are X-poles an option?

I don’t think studios NEED spinning poles but I think that it’s nice for future considerations. We only have one spinner and no one has used it yet (besides me.)

Many students have expressed disappointment that our spinny pole has gone. Now we have some X-Poles so they are happy again haha!

But ny point is, even though it’s harder or "different", most students still find it fun. More fun than static, in many cases, in my experience. And many student will be seeking pole classes because it’s a FUN way to keep fit. If they were only interested in building strength, they’d probably be at the gym. So I think it’s nice to inject fun whenever you can… it could be an outrageous routine, a spinny pole, letting them bring their own music – etc.

I started learning on spinny poles as it seemed to help build strength at first as you didn’t have to concentrate so much on getting yourself round the pole, rather hanging on and maintaining a position. It also was a good trainer to get myself in the right positions for the different basic spins. We always started on spin to warm up and do basic stuff then moved on to static to do holds and once we started inverting to practice that as well.

Spin is so much fun – I can’t go upside down because it all goes pear-shaped for me then, but doing right way round spins is great fun https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I prefer spinny. But I think having the option to set the pole on both spin and static is great since people have different preferences.

i love spinny pole but i’ve been poling for the past two years and no way would i have got anything on spin to start with https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif personally i found poling really difficult and learning on static was way easier and got me learning the basics of a move using my core muscles to hold me in place correctly.( and safely https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif
when i got"ok" with getting a lot of the moves i tried on static i went on spin and felt like a total novice which felt disheartning at first and made me feel sick a lot of the time 2! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif but after a while you get used to it and it makes you strengthen musles a lot more, while giving me a whole new excitment about poling ! spin pole makes me feel like i’m flying and i find it so much more addictive, but i would always try a new move on static get it feelin ok first and then try on spin https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

My studio I go to are static brass poles. As much as I love them, I really wish we had one that went on spin. Theres so much stuff I want to do on spin but we have no pole that spins.

at our studio 2 of the poles are spinny, so that as students advance they have an option to also learn spinny.
