Well done you pole-twista!!! It’s a great move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Personally I need to get really focused and believe in the body’s strenght to do a good pencil / rubber pen.
As soon as nerves fail, it’s a bit scary. -
Thanks Amyxshi – ah yes, have taken a look at the X-pole site, how silly of me.
Maybe it’d be a good pole for her to go for! -
Funny I’ve got the opposite problem, can only do elbow grip Aysha but now the other one (what’s its name? the one with elbow towards your body and gripping with hand?). I find that sometimes when the pole is slippery, an elbow grip is next to impossible. But on a good sticky day, it just works https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I find that it takes a few attempts whilst upside down to really position the elbow skin so you feel confident that you’ve got a good grip. Also, try both arms! It might work with the other one. Good luck you’ll get it for sure!!

Funny, when I first learnt the invert, my instructor called it ‘the kick-up’… Bad habit! Now almost one year in understand how much more difficult inverts are when not kicking into them. Trying to learn aerial inverts seems nearly impossible!

Great for your arms – someone said last week I’ve got ‘guns’! Yeah, proud of them!!
-
No way https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif PoleKitten are you sure it’d be OK? Would be so much fun! I’m away end of April / early May but other than that I’ll be in London all spring.

Hi fellow UK’er Halfjack https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I asked my pole instructor at the London gym I go to what’s needed to become a pole instructor… She said any instructor at this particular gym and probably most of them needs to have an Exercise To Music (studio instructor) certificate. Pole certificates are optional, but for a gym to hire you, you basically need the ETM class. So this would be your first step.
YMCA do this for around £500, which is apparently the best option.
There are other ways of getting the ETM certificate but they cost around £700 and are apparently based on the YMCA one anyway. It might seem odd, as ETM isn’t related to pole per se, but it shows that you can lead a class (to music) and some muscle / body theory. As a side note, my teacher’s got plenty of pole certificates but she didn’t rate them highly at all. If you come across any ones with good reputation, let me know!

Hi
Yeah hiring a studio would be really cool! Also a little less intimidating than having strangers – no matter how lovely – around your house https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I think there’s a drop in one around Old street / Shoreditch? -
Ah yeah ETM is a studio instructor fitness course. Am thinking of becoming an instructor myself (in a year or two, when I’ll hopefully be better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ) and my instructor recommended getting an ETM certificate first of all, then build with pole specific courses. All the best of luck to you!! Go girl! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_basketball.gif

Hi Rautenbach, your profile pic looks great! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif super well done!
Personally, I tend to go down to handstand once I’m tired, or there’s too much blood rushing through the head. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif
Once you’re comfortable with the handstand and feel like your orientation is right, then perhaps try the pole cat/climb or perhaps the Aysha – which I personally find OK because my main strenght is in my arms. -
Welcome Oluha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
This is a great site and I’m sure you’ll enoy the forum, video etc. As for becoming an instructor, not the best person to help, but here in the UK they recommend getting an Exercise To Music certificate first of all.

Window cleaner, has worked well so far

Great responses! I pole because it’s so addictive, heard someone liken it to skateboarding. You learn one trick – great! – and then try to do next… and it’s so addictive because you just want to get that feeling of adrenaline and accomplishment again and again!
Also, I do it to work on ‘my guns’ https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I get stressed out quite easily and went through a really *really* nasty time a year or two ago. Have found that the only time when I’m truly relaxed and not anxious is when I pole.

Inspiring thread, I’m sure you’ll do well regardless!
(ps and a bit off topic I suppose, but am I the only one who’s only done fitness moves in front of bf? Never dared to do any ‘dances’ in front of him..)
-
Yeah too much poling can take its toll on the body I suppose https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif It’s just too much fun!

Hours a day! Wow ::)

Great amcut, what an interesting thread!
Came across a pole site last night that was just… bitchy. Said ‘pole should always be xy and z’ basically because that’s how that girl did it, quite dictatorial. Made me feel a bit frustrated https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif But then remembered that there are way better pole sites, such as SV https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif, where girls are tolerant and sweeties.
Personally I’m into the fitness and gymnastic side of pole, and think the best bit about pole is that it can be everything and anything you want it to be – whether you’re into tricks only or floorwork etc.
