If you can’t find a live studio maybe you could take Skype lessons from someone or use veena’s lessons (they are really great).

I am also a sweaty mess on the pole and use Chrome. Fans help, gloves can be useful too. The weather can make it or break it for me as well. If it’s humid I’m doomed.
For me, it has come down to acceptance at least in part. I know that I am not going to be able to perform every trick any day I want. Some days are really good others are really bad. I try to remember that the bad days are not my fault, that I don’t really suck as bad as it may seem, and that overall they even make me a better poler for having pushed through doing what I could manage. Even if it wasn’t much. (I have days where I can’t do a simple chair spin, and reverse grab is always hit or miss due to sweaty hands. ) Floorwork is always a fun option, or I use the practice time to have an extended stretching session instead.
Be creative and try to find something positive in it.

OMG I totally understand how you feel. I really could talk about pole for hours and hours. It wouldn’t be challenging. Even people who are interested in trying it get tired of listening to me blab. My latest video for instance; I am so super proud of trying and succeeding at 2 advanced moves and I just want to tell everyone I see. But these people don’t even know what the moves are when I say superman drop or shouldermount flip let alone have any understanding of how much time and effort have gone into it. Or how much more will go into them before I’m happy. Or the PAIN associated with learning a new trick lol.
Oh well. It’s a hard world for us out there isn’t it. 🙂

Irish, make sure you are using your whole leg and not JUST the foot. You should be fine.

Oh and just for clarification I meant that the poling is quite realistic and there are a few nice tricks. But from what I have seen all the dancers do the same routine.

Hazi411 it is a new video game. It is the largest budget video game ever ($200,000) and it made over a million $ in sales in the first 2 days it was released. So it’s breaking and setting new records in that industry.

I'm not sure when I made the transition from, "I take pole dancing classes" to "I'm a pole dancer".

When I teach I get my students doing continuous motion and "dancing" right from Day 1.  After we go through a whole song without stopping (by the end of their first class) I tell them that they are now officially pole dancers.  Gets a great reaction, big smiles, cheers, etc.

You can also get into a handstand or Elbowstand from either a CKR or CLR. Try it with a spotter first to make sure you have your balance. 🙂

Well sometimes it’s hard to tell especially if you don’t have an instructor. Sometimes you just have to try the next step and see how it goes. Or try new transitions into or out of moves. You said you can butterfly, so if that’s comfortable try extending it. Or try new transitions into/out of it ex. From crucifix, Gemini, inv thigh hold, shooting star, star, or cupid. 🙂

Hooped for 20 min yesterday!  It was fun, but hard.  But I think I need to make a bigger hoop.  I could only do the front and back stance, and only with my left foot forward.  But I do think that the hoop is the problem, not me.  It's too small, and it's got something that rattles around inside it making it feel off-balance and odd.  Oh well, it was less than $10 and I will use it for the next couple weeks anyways until I have time to make myself a new bigger and better hoop.

I did have fun spinning it on my hands and arm though and doing isolations with it…trying not to throw it across the room too often. lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Thanks for the suggestion Veena, and the fun lessons too.

AerialGypsy is right. Post photos or videos along your journey regardless of where you’re starting or where you get to. Last year I came close to splits for Xmas but did not quite get there. I posted pics anyways and continued stretching and by spring I had a consistent split on one side.
The title of the challenge is a little intimidating for many and maybe even a little misleading. You don’t have to get a flat split by Xmas, the goal is to try to make progress from wherever you are. Some who have splits may be working on oversplits, others may just be trying to touch their toes, and that’s okay. Don’t compare yourself to others and just enjoy your own personal journey. Now let’s all go stretch!

Ellierox, check out my photo albums here on SV. I can do front splits on both sides and am very close to middles!

And they really work! The combination of my Alethea dvds and Veena’s lessons made the biggest improvements ever.

It's very close Kobajo, good sleuthing.  In that vid Danielle is grabbing same side hand to hooked leg.  But in the pic, the girl is grabbing same side hand to free leg.  My guess is that entry into the move would be the same, but you'd reach further around the pole so the other arm could come behind the pole as well and reach for that free leg.

I will mention the vitamin d thing to him. Something like that is easy enough to have checked and fixed too. 🙂
