MemberMarch 14, 2014 at 7:11 pm in reply to: Any tips on practicing pole dance during pregnancy?I was too sick to pole my first two months of pregnancy. Through my pregnancy I actually was able to increase my pole trick arsenal and flexibility, but I did it very slowly and without inverts (I could never invert before so I didn’t try to do it then). My little boy is now four months old yesterday and thriving! I didn’t know about pole for my first pregnancy but strength trained and ran while I was pregnant that time, too.
Being active does wonders for reducing back pain related to pregnancy so I would not completely eliminate it but it is a personal decision. As Veena said, listen to your body. Do what you are comfortable with and don’t be afraid to take it down a bit–after all, you’re lifting a lot more weight with every move! 🙂

Please help!To be honest I would rather not give their site my traffic so I will give her all my love here 🙂 I hope Alloy Images nails them hard with that DMCA–stealing images is a serious offence. I have heard of people getting heavy fines for it; I think in this case it would be very well deserved.
Dakota you are amazing and even more so for supporting your student! Big hugs to both of you!

Hi Jolene! Nice to see other MN polers here 🙂

My understanding is that .png will keep the image quality better than .jpg, so I would keep using the .png (anyone feel free to correct me 🙂

Olga would be perfect for the Olympics–she has that focus on technical elements above all other elements. Her style reminds me of Shizuka Arakawa from figure skating the last winter olympics.

@Sparrow Yikes! I would hate to break a heel, but then I’ve never poled in heels. What part of them broke? If it was a strap Aerial Gyspsy has a post on http://femtasticdance.blogspot.com/2013/10/jazzing-up-your-heels.html that might help you out (using ribbon to replace the strap) as does Pole Geek on http://polegeek.blogspot.com/2013/08/pole-crafting-stilettos-sos-strap-repair.html

@Kobajo I am officially jealous of your hands 🙂 @Lyme, yay!

I agree, there is a lot of media hype playing into those fears. I have a Target card and was not one of those compromised; they let all cardholders know that we would not be responsible for any fraudulent charges and anyone affected would have a year of free credit monitoring. Like Webmaster I also got an email from PayPal reminding me of their layers of protection. So it is not even close to as bad as the media is making it out to be.
If you are still iffy about it could you link the card, complete the transaction, and then unlink it?

Could be worth asking your doctor next time you’re in. I wouldn’t worry too much as long as you aren’t getting other symptoms. I do not know much about endometriosis; a classmate of mine had it and she said her periods were excruciating not running in general. Here are the symptoms of endometriosis from Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/endometriosis/basics/symptoms/CON-20013968 .

It looks great and I love that you brought back chat! PS the intro video makes me really, really want a cute pole outfit with rhinestones 😀

She should also try posting on here. I bought my Xpert used from a Veener 🙂
I have never regretted spending more to get a good quality pole. I would remind her that a good, safe pole will be really helpful not only for poling at home but also for body weight strength training exercises and for flexibility training. I use mine to do beginner squats with proper form (so I don't tip over backward, lol), do pole holds and seated pull ups for upper body strength, to do back/side stretching, and as a brace for deep lunges and butterfly stretch. Definitely worth the investment!

Thanks everyone! I'll put those all on my birthday wish list 😀

MemberOctober 8, 2013 at 9:14 pm in reply to: Read this post on Psychology Today about Pole DancingYup I was annoyed at the quotations I saw reposted on Facebook–I resisted clicking out to not give them more views 😀 There is sexy pole, sporty pole, pole art, lyrical, contemporary… and here she's equating it all of pole with what I would call "pole play" (grinding) not pole dance. If she ever *tried* sexy pole with grinding AND tricks/flowy movements I bet she would have to think twice about watering it down the way she did in her post. Surely she would not be pleased if someone equated having a Ph D in Psychology with taking high school Psychology.

Bodyweight exercises are great! If you have Veena's lessons I believe she has some conditioning exercises off the pole. I think I have a post about this somewhere on my blog too…

MemberSeptember 22, 2013 at 9:31 am in reply to: If you could decorate your dream pole space or studio in any decor you wanted, what would it be?Mirrors on the ceiling! I have a whole bunch I bought so I could do that but they only made it as far as leaning on the walls. My idea was to be able to see where my foot was so I could grab it and pull it to my head in pigeon pose or to work on back bends. I also love that some people would be scandalized by where the mirrors are, lol!

Cool, I was just planning to add some pictures on my instagram tonight! It's @theflexines https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Oooo! Veena I was hoping you would go with that, somehow I can envision you doing that song. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Welcome to StudioVeena! It's always nice to see a new "Veener" joining in 😀 Pole jams are definitely a great way to stay motivated through pole ruts and have fun. Skype is good to have as a lot of us use it. I also coordinate group video chat stretching/pole jams on Tues./Thurs./Sun. and you could always join in and just chat until you get your webcam at http://flexines.net (no downloads required).
Also, if you have not yet checked out the challenges here that's another great way to keep motivated. You just record a video of yourself and upload it, here's this month's: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/2013_September_Challenge_20130901063318

Chem–yes! I think a lot of people forget the level of professionalism is required in any business, not just pole, and want to have a "fun-only" project. Another topic I have heard come up within studios from friends that attend class is sometimes instructors/owners can become so wrapped up with their own vision that they forget what students are coming to the studio for. Showcases, as Sunshine mentioned, and the challenges that are done on SV seem like an awesome way to keep students engaged 😀

YAY! Last year I worked so hard but was still far off by the holidays, but now I have me some SPLITS 😀 For everyone out there working on this do NOT give up 🙂
-
It sounds like you need a break from that drama, at the very least! Definitely try the lessons here, they are very reasonable especially considering you can do what you want at your own pace. Where there are people, there is drama–but this level of drama and unprofessionalism is inexcusable. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. You did all the right things including talking to the owner so it's definitely not on you. I hope you can find a good solution 😀

Oh and if you haven't seen the Veena pregnancy pole videos you're missing out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyFK907b4Qc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPL1gikIZUQ <–The second one is my personal favorite. So ethereal and she still makes everything look so easy.
