Hey Ottersocks….any plans to do group sessions? I checked out the book awhile back but it was kind of confusing so I didn't really do anything with it.

MemberJanuary 19, 2011 at 8:50 am in reply to: Stretching: how often? For how long? TOTALLY confused! Help?@MissKitty83…I had the same problem for awhile. I kept stretching and even though I'm still tight (mostly b/c I'm not consistent in my stretching regimen), I no longer have those feelings in my feet or knees. I was told that it had something to do with the nervous system and that it was safe to continue to stretch (actually, very helpful), but not to do it to the point of pain or severe discomfort. I did gentle yoga for awhile and that definitely helped so you may want to give it a try. It would probably help if you buy a band and use it in the position you talked about (lying on your back). That way, you can just stretch to the point that you can keep your leg straight and hold it there with the band. Eventually you'll be able to bring your leg closer to your chest. It takes time. By the way, I find deep slow breathing to be very helpful when stretching because it keeps my mind and body very relaxed. Let me know how it goes!

Scandalicious, sorry to hear about your troubles. Everyone has given you good advice on job hunting, but I wanted to talk to you about your home. There's a program from a company called American Homeowner Preservation in Cincinnati OH. They help people like you keep their homes. In a nutshell, they negotiate a short sale with your bank and then they find an investor to pay the bank off. You then make lease payments to the investor and you can buy your home back from the investor in 1-5 years for a predetermined amount. The lease payments are less than you'd pay if you were to rent an apartment and you get to stay in your home. Check out their website at ahphelp.com. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info ladies. Not sure if my wrist probs are pole related because when it first started hurting I hadn’t been on the pole for a few days. I tried taking a week off and that still didn’t do it. I think my grips are fine, but I’ll ask my pole instructor to pay extra close attention to see if she sees anything. I hope it gets better soon!

Hey luvlee, count me in! I prefer Friday nights, but will drive down on Saturday if I have to.

The cheapest one I have seen was $150 but it was only a 2" mat. The $199 one that is 4" is a good deal. Or you can try searching craigslist for gym mats. I have the foam floor mats as my first layer and then these huge pillows that I got at Big Lots that I use when trying new stuff.
Thanks for the info. I’ll give craigslist a shot. A gym mat sounds like a good idea because I’d prefer something flat I can walk on as opposed to walking on pillows.
I found mine at a hardware store. They’re meant for cushioning feet on a work space to be stood on all day. They look like giant puzzle pieces with the way they fit together on the sides, but it means they can be attached all the way around the pole. They were $10 for a pack of 4 at Harbor Freight and I’m pretty sure you could buy them anywhere. Get 2 packs and you can layer them, stack one on top of the other, with multiple packs you could create a whole padded surface which would be great for floorwork.
I’m going to the hardware store today. Thanks!

Hey guys I feel embarrassed about this but here is the thing….if any of you have any old clothes you are giving away, like regular not dance clothes, I would gladly take them if u would want to send…clothes are just something we can’t afford and haven’t for a while…if u have something u are already giving away at least u would know its going to someone who would really appreciate it…I have some stuff thats too small I could trade possibly…..like I said its embarrassing but I don’t have any family or friends my size to ask https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_albino.gif
Hey there, what size are you? I have some things I need to get rid of that I can’t fit anymore. Let me know.

Hey ladies,
I’m comin’ to the pole jam in Columbus on March 6th! I have the best honey in the world. He said it was okay for me to go and that we’d celebrate my b-day the following weekend. Soooooo, I’ll be spending Saturday night with y’all at Kickstand! This is my first pole jam and I can’t wait to see some of you gals on the pole. I’m a bit shy, so I’ll be the one sitting down doing all the cheering!

Hey, can anybody tell me where to find "the switch" move in the video lessons? I’m putting together a daily routine to get my abs together and Veena said this is a good move for abs. Thanks, ladies!

Vodka,
I have a recipe for vegan cheese that takes only 10 minutes to make. Lots of great substitutes for cheese!
-
Vodka,
There are some really great recipes out there and once you try them you’ll be hooked! I’m a vegan 99% of the time (I eat salmon once a week). I’ve found some great recipes on fatfreevegan.com and vegancoach.com. You should also probably invest in a good probiotic and take it regularly. Other foods you’ll want to eat include spinach and blueberries. Try looking up quinoa recipes….great hearty grain that you can do a lot with. I have a quinoa paella recipe, as well as a quinoa loaf and salad recipe that I love.
Either way, hang in there. For the first 18 years of my life my mother served something fried, a starch and a canned vegetable for dinner. I suffered many health problems in my mid 20’s and finally figured that I needed to change my diet. It was difficult at first because I focused on what I couldn’t have as opposed to all the other great foods out there. Once I started experimenting with fresh veggies I was hooked.
Let me know if you need some encouragement or someone to talk to. I’m a health and wellness coach and have a lot of experience helping my clients change their diets. And for you, my pole sistah, there would be no charge!

Audball, you may want to figure out if there’s yeast in your system. Yeast buildup is a frequent problem that goes unnoticed in traditional medicine. Here’s a quick test to see if yeast is the culprit:
In the morning BEFORE you put anything in your mouth get a clear glass and fill it with water. Work up some saliva in your mouth and spit in the glass. Check it every 15 minutes or so for an hour. If you see legs travelling down from your saliva then you probably have a yeast problem. If there are no strings and the saliva is still floating after an hour then yeast probably isn’t a problem.
If you find you have a yeast problem, I would recommend reading The Yeast Connection (forgot the author’s name). Follow the diet in the book for about a month and see if you notice any changes. You may also want to pick up a good quality probiotic. Evening Primrose is good for eczema as well.
Also, use the hydrocortisone and any steriod based creams as little as possible. Steriods can cause problems down the line if used too much. I have clients (I’m a health and wellness coach) that have this problem so use them sparingly and try to find a more natural solution to the eczema.
Hope this helps!

Hey someone just posted a book in another forum called The Genius of Flexibility by Bob Cooley. From what everyone here has said, it helps you really stretch which is great for toning. I just placed a hold on it at my local library. You may want to try the same.

I just placed a hold on it at my local library. Should have it in 3-5 days. Oooh, I hope this works because I’m the stiffest girl in my pole class (hee hee). Thanks for the tip!
