Ok I totally get that you need to know HOW to engage because that is what I didn’t get either!!! So my physio taught me. Lie on your back, knees bent. With shoulders, hips and feet all in one line as thought two tracks. Then find your pelvis bone with your fingers at each side. Move your fingers off your hip bone towards your belly by a cm and that is the lower stomach muscle which you need to engage. Try to ‘engage’ and you will either feel it tense or not, if it tenses that is engaged if it doesn’t adjust until you feel it tense. For some people it tilts pelvis forward (arched back like me) for others it means it tilts back. Does that make sense??? Any exercise I do now, I do that first to make sure I am engaged. My inverts have improved dramatically and I got my SM as a direct result of learning how to engage properly.
I hope that makes sense and helps you x

It is true that you don’t start burning fat until after 20 min, but you ate still doing other things in that 20 min that are good for body like increasing blood flow and lung capacity. Anything is better than Nothing!! In the uk the government advise 30 min of exercise a few times a week. I hope they pulled that advice from research not thin air 🙂

I started to learn on a 50mm Xpole xpert gold coated (old top loading so very worn down) which was great for early poling and remains excellent for gripping. I bought a 45mm Xpole xpert chrome (cheaper than gold coated) a few weeks into poling. Its much better for hand grips but harder for leg grips at first, now im better, it’s better for everything. 45mm is defo the way to go over a 50mm if your little like me. The chrome finish is slippy though unless you are well warmed up.

I pulled my Gracilis muscle this week, doing box splits stretching and it went ‘pop’ I was gutted. Can’t do my pole exam tomorrow now 🙁 luckily it’s not bad so I can do everything apart from stretching and laybacks. Still pretty annoying though because now I’m scared of doing it again but worse :-/

By protein tea I meant my evening meal, we call that 'tea' where I live, as in breakfast, dinner and tea (your 3 meals a day!) sorry for confusion! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

My fella is a sports lecturer and trains everyday…I asked him your question and he said 'Whenever you do any excercise, esp strength based like pole, your body breaks down its own protein so that has to be replaced. So even if you do eat your RDA of protein, by exercising you are using some so should eat more to replace what you use. Getting stronger but not building size is determined by the type of exercise you do not the amount of protein you eat'

He recommended that on the days I pole/do other exercise (as I probably naturally dont eat enough protein generally-only usually at lunch and tea) that I have extra protein, so on a Monday I have a herbalife peanut protein bar (I think these are 19g protein) about 2 hrs before I pole and a higher protein tea afterwards then on thursay I have a high protein tea before pole with a 25g whey protein shake 15 min before, then if I have had a proper hard workout and feel peckish I have one of the herbalife pro bars instead of being tempted to snack on other bad stuff. The bonus to the herbalife peanut pro bars is they taste like a choc bar not a pro bar so for someone like me who likes a choc bar, I feel like I have had one 🙂

I find that if I have extra protein I dont get DOMS (muscle ache) worse in the following days which my fella says, more protein means quicker recovery/repair rate, hence more protein is less pain 🙂

I have also cut back on my carbs (30g for lunch max and 40g for tea) and upped the veg and protein at meal times. Unfortunately I struggle to cut back on the alcohol / goodies at weekend, but 5/7 days is trying hard enough in my books!

I havent gained size, I have actually lost about 2 inch around my waist since I began poling in October 2011, but I also have some nice muscles showing up especially considering the only weight training I did until 2 weeks ago was pole twice a week with the occasional push up/crunch between. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I think sometimes because they are SO advanced instructors forget the beginner moves and how difficult they really are when you first start poling! It’s no excuse for poor instruction but simply telling them that you are struggling or asking for an alternative easier move/variation of that move might remind them of your level.
In one of the classes I have been to the instructor has never mentioned putting matts under your pole, but I always do and so others have followed. Sometimes you can be a good teacher too 🙂

Side effects may include: nausea, vomiting, hot flushes and sexual arousal. In men it may cause spontaneous erections. It has been linked to mole changes, so if users notice any change in moles they should consult their GP.

After achieving my life goals ‘so far’ Uni degree, job I wanted, nice boyfriend, own place etc etc I was a bit bored..(not being ungrateful) now I’m not bored or fidgity-I have something to do for myself whenever I want and I love that, I feel content 🙂 I can power the pole to achieve a new goal or I can just chill out and enjoy what I can do 🙂
