I try to get on the pole at least 4-5 times a week. Sometimes less if I’ve had some hardcore workouts….needed to take a few days off to recover (physically and mentally). I have three kids so usually I only pole for about 1 hr at a time at night when they are all sound asleep! I think it is more important to fully enjoy and get the most out of your dance session then to be strict about having to workout x number of days a week. Sometimes I need quite a few days off to recup. Allowing myself to take those small breaks also refreshes me mentally. I get mentally "dance" on the off days!

Okay…so I can’t believe that I am going to admit this "out loud". But, when I started dancing last June I was 220 lbs. Now I’m down to 159 ( as of this morning:)). I’ll admit, that it is a little harder to do certain moves with a little more weight, but as the weight comes off they get so much easier. But remember, the more weight you have to lose, the more calories you burn in a workout/pole session. It does take time to build up your strength especially if your not acustomed to any kind of exercise….especially pole! You get to a point where everytime you work out or dance you feel how much stronger you are (even compared to your last workout). So…CURVY is beautiful! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif You can do any thing that the "skinny" girls can do! Keep at it and try not to get discouraged. The most rewarding thing I have gotten out of pd is allowing me to "wear my body" proudly. PD kinda makes you feel like you have a juicy little secret and you carry it proudly! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_hockey.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_dwarf.gif

Weight loss can seem like a huge task at hand especially when you look at it as "I have 18lbs to lose".. If you break it down to a more manageable number…it’s not so daunting. For example, pick 5 lbs. 5 is a much more manageable #. Once that 5 is gone start over. This is the only way that I have been succesful with weightloss. I almost feel like an expert at it since I’ve gained and lost 90 lbs twice (2 pregnancies). 90 is such a huuuuuggggeeee number that it made the "goal" seem completly out of reach and impossible. But I broke it down into 5 or 10 lb goals. I lost my first "round" of 90 lbs in about 9 mths and kept it off for 4 years (until I got preggo again) and it’s taken a little longer 2nd time around (14 mths) and I still have 8 lbs to go (according to my scale this morning). Also, don’t weigh yourself everyday! This will drive you insane. I know. There were times when I would get on 2 sometimes 3 times a day. Now I only get on once a week. Your weight will fluctuate through out the day/week no matter what you do. Don’t be so hard on yourself if you don’t lose it in the specific time frame you want. It will come if you put in all the effort and mainly MINDSET to do it. I look at is like a game…a game that I will win. Good luck!!

I got Leigh Anns Intermediate DVD for christmas (as a gift) and it still hasn’t come in yet!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif So I have no opinion on it as of now. I do however have Jamilla’s set and love it. Definitly a great set to have!! I’ll post an opinion on LA’s dvd if I ever get it in.

Just remember that those idiots how make negative comments can’t probably do 1/16th of what you can. I definitly understand the body image issue. I have days when I watch some of these videos and say "why can’t I be that thin again"…but the one thing I have gotten more out of pole dancing is to trust and accept my body. I know that is easier said than done. I’ve been on both sides…too skinny and way to fat! I gained 95 lbs with both of my pregnancies…..not including the 15 I gained after getting married….the weight fell off in like 6mths after having my son…but it has taken much longer after my daughter. She is now 14 mths I still have like 10 lbs to go to pre preggo wt. I can see changes in my body everyday. I can honestly say that I have never been so strong in my life(used to dance, gymnastics, figure skate & play rugby). This is by far the most mentally and physically challenging sport I have EVER done! Don’t be so hard or judgemental on yourself. You look great and dance great! Sometimes it helps mentally to take a break….go for it, but don’t quit!

Have you tried doing a handstand into it? I found that doing this helped me get comfortable with the grip and arm placement before trying it from a CKR or CAR.

I went to make another video from a practice last week and I was like…."all I did was stare at the pole, wipe my hands/pole and stretch"…not much to show. I could have swore I did more than that! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Thanks. It seemed easier doing it from a split grip craddle. For some reason, my grip dosen’t seem as strong when I do from an invert.

Thanks for the tips…I’ll definitly check out that Vegas. I tried again last night with the WMM and about wanted to bash the computer in. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif It makes sense to tape in bits rather than one long go. Thanks thanks!

One thing that I do is take and do a plie squat…but with your butt almost to the floor..hold onto the pole and do slow hip circles while VERY SLOWLY rising to standing and then back down. I can really feel that work the thighs, butt, hip flexors and lower abs. It helps loosen up your hips too!

My practice usually consists of about 15 min warm up and then I work on spins, static holds/poses and then inverts….with a little dancing and stretching in between. Then I finish with more stretching. I used to figure skate and I got into the habit of working on spins first (to find my balance) and then footwork (for co-ordination) and then jumps. I would then practice my programs/routines.
