I think everyone is different when it comes to "when" the skin is desensitised (sp?). I'[ve been at this a while now and sometimes (right before that time of the month) my skin can still get a little sensitive…persistance is the main key It will eventually quit hurting! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

That would depend on what level of a pole dancer you are…twisted grip is a very advance grip and if you try it prematurely you could seriously hurt yourself…hell even if you have the strength and flexibility you could hurt yourself! Can you do a hanspring or cartwheel mount? Straight edge with split grip??

Ok so my most embarassing thing actually happened last night….and I got it on vid…not sure if i’m going to put it up or not…but anyways…I was going into a cupid (with no hands) and my foot of my extended leg missed the pole and WHAM! my "no no" place got slammed into the pole as I went crashing to the floor…now I got a nice bruise right where the sun dosen’t shine!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

MemberSeptember 4, 2009 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Embarassed by Husband Finding my Practice Video 🙁Ok…so I guess I’m going to be the "odd ball" on this thread! I have danced for my husband and I love to do it! I don’t look at pole as being "mine" or my personal secret. Yes, I think to be sensual it has to be personal but also my husband benefits from EVERYTHING that is mine and vs versa. I wouldn’t have married him if I didn’t want mine to be his and his to be mine. Other than rediscovering sensuality in myself, pole has also taught me that I don’t want to keep my dancing to myself…so if hubby wants to take a peak at my practice vids with all the wedgie pulling, aimless stares and the occasional "fluff" (I believe that is how it was stated in a previous thread) then he can have at it! I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and where I’ve come over the past year and I want him to be apart of that….even if sometimes I still look like I don’t know what I’m doing! Ok…off my soapbox… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Have you tried getting the adhesive strips for on the bottom of the soles? They help with traction

Are you looking for exercises to do with the pole? If so, you could always do pole-ups, arm-only climb (tough one)…
For non-pole exercises, I really like doing handstands (u could do these on the pole), handstand pushups, I think yoga pushups were already mentioned… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

YAY another carolinian!! Welcome! Unfortunately I’m in SC…too far away from all you NC ladies!

I am sooooo going to be there!! It’s going to be so awesome to meet you girls that are going!!

For a stationary V you can have your dom hand up high and your sub arm about shoulder height…both hands have thumbs up. I find that if you run the pole along the forearm of your sub hand this helps with keeping you up but also holding you away from the pole. I know a picture/video would help explain this alot better.
oh…and working on a one-handed chair spin will REALLY help with the strength of that top arm!

I think poling with nails is kinda like typing with nails…some people can do it and some can’t!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I don’t have acrylics b/c my nails are naturally really strong/long, but I don’t have too many issues with them getting in the way!

STOP!!!! If it hurts…your not ready for it!!! Split grips(bracket grip, diamond grip…) all require a good bit of strength and flexibility in the wrist/forearm/elbow! The bottom arm in split grips is not for supporting your weight, it’s for pushing your body away from the pole! If you do split grips and you are not "ready" for them, you can SERIOUSLY hurt yourself!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif It’s best to build strength (nice and slow) and then progress to split grips. Everything that you are being taught with a split grip can be done with a baseball grip/buddy grip. THERE IS NO MOVE THAT HAS TO BE DONE WITH THIS GRIP!
When I first started pole I seriously hurt my forearms so bad that I had to take a 4mth break!! I couldn’t even pick up a pop can with out being in extreme pain.
Another thing, even if you take a break from split grips, make sure to thouroughly warm up your hands and forearms…this will help prepare them!!
Don’t try to "work" through the pain. I am a little dissapointed that your instructor has given you an alternative grip to use! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Sissy…I know exactly what you’re talking about. I for one like the dancing part and wish that more of the "super fantastic wicked cool" dancers would do more dancing!
